Decent financial results. Nothing spectacular (maybe except Splatoon which is doing really great) but things seem to be improving. The most positive thing I see here is the digital sales number. It went from 5 billion yen a year ago to 12 billion this quarter. The total software revenue is 45.372 billion which means digital sales account for more than a quarter of that! This is really great news and I hope it makes Nintendo realize how important digital sales are to them, especially when their presence at retail is shrinking so rapidly due to losing in the competition. Step up you game, Nintendo. Do what you will and make your partnership with DeNA on account system fruitful, and remove any obstacles that could possibly stop gamers from buying your game digitally. You had no idea how important this is to you.

Japan still loves Animal Crossing and Splatoon refuses to go down. Yoshi's Woolly World passes 50k.

I shouldn't be surprised that Animal Crossing HHD, even as a spin-off, did that well in Japan. But I still am for some reason. The game looks more enjoyable than a lot of people would have you believe and I'm looking forward to it... but damn. Clearly Japan doesn't have any reservations about it. It presumably might have even done a bit better if Nintendo didn't (once again) whiff on the amiibo roll out for the game with the cards.

So they sold 312,000 packs of amiibo cards in those four days of sales, according to Media Create sales numbers. On one hand I kind of want to give Nintendo a pass cuz that just seems kinda insane... but amiibo has been insane pretty much from the outset, so there was no reason to believe these would have been any different. At the very least they could have produced as many packs as they did copies of the game in their initial shipment.

Animal Crossing is still at the top. Luminous Arc: Infinity at 4th. The Gal Gun sequel sells 10.7k combined which is in line with the previous game. Koei Tecmo's 3DS games bringing in the rear of new releases.

Of note, Devil's Third retail was exclusively released on Amazon JP last week. I don't think Media Create tracks Amazon.

Splatoon is now over 500k in Japan.  I'm really hoping it reaches 1 million in its lifetime.

Splatoon is doing an amazing job in Japan for a new IP.  Nearly selling as many units as Mario Kart 8 for the same time period. .  Yoshi died in Japan ), not sure what happened by selling at 50Kish is pretty damn sad.  Still not sure why the game was delayed in the states.

Still not sure why the PS4 continues to sell?  FFXV delayed another year,  KHIII is MIA, Deep Down is vaporware, yet the system continues to sell?

Announcements of games coming out to platform X doesn't affect hardware baseline until the actual day it comes out. Maybe a week before.

Interesting that your first thought should turn to a racial perspective. Actually, I was referring to the Dragon Quest fanbase in general, which buys every new game in that franchise regardless of platform and especially regardless if the game has actually changed from the NES originals. In fact, they tend to throw a fit when Square-Enix hints it might not play like the NES originals. That they're Japanese is immaterial to me. They're just the only market that still cares about Dragon Quest.

In any case, S-E announced more than one PS4 Dragon Quest game at that conference. There's also DQ Heroes 1 & 2, the latter of which was also announced while the 1st is currently available.  Plus, Japanese developer support has been a bit on the rise of late, so perhaps the Japanese are finally starting to get interested in the PS4. Weirder things have been known to happen.

It's probably a safe bet these days that the Yarn Yoshi Amiibo have probably sold double to triple what Wooly World itself has. That's what happens when you flood the Wii U market with 2D platformers, as well as recently releasing an underwhelming Yoshi 3DS game.
