How can we jump to going gold without knowing if the hardware is done yet?

I'm just hoping that final dev kits are going out and the hardware is done like this rumor suggests.

>>Joystiq reports+ that Playfuls reports+that Gamemag.ru reports + that Inside Gamer reports + that the
Revolution is ready for mass production <<

TRANSLATION: "My brothers girlfriends cousins roommates best freinds daughters next door neigbor says
Revolution is ready for mass production"

thats what comes to my mind when i read that article, the 'news' site is reporting something someone else said that they heard from someone else and soon.

But taken with everything we know about Rev so far I think a summer launch is possible but June or July sounds more realistic than May, but I could be wrong. I am HOPING for a may release but only if theres some good games to go with it.

May '06 would be nice, but I'm going to guess Revolution launch day will be November 26, 2006 (the Sunday before Thanksgiving, like the DS' launch last year).

Unless Iwata and/or Reggie is going to drop the "By-the-way, Revolution is on it's way to retailers as I speak" bomb during the keynote of Nintendo's E3 presentation - May 2006 is not going to happen.

If they are going to first show gameplay at E3 the soonest we would see a launch is in June or July give ample time for the game mags to come out and start the hype. And that is probally the time the PS3 will be coming out. I don't think it will be out until September at the eariliest, November at the latest.

If Nintendo wants anything close to the worldwide launch it wouldn't be too strange to start production to get enough units. Because with most new cars production starts in late August for a December release.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Why is it hard to believe that Nintendo could be producing Revolution's now for production?  Or start producing them without making a public announcement.  If they aren't ready to show the games and show the software there is no point in making a public announcment.

However, if they want to make a huge presence at E3 having alot of real units available to play is important.  And if they want to make a worldwide launch with enough units then Nintendo definately needs to start producing.

Now, I am not saying this story is TRUE.  I am saying it isn't unbelievable.  Hopefully, Nintendo decided to up the RAM in its system though.  (That's just me.)

This dosen't shock me, nintendo haves been using modified part that are already out in the market for the rev and that mean they can start mass production and make lot of revo with in a short time. and I call a may rev launch with the new come at e3 a while ago, Reggie will drop the biggest bomb ever this e3!

While I don't believe the may launch rumor, a launch sometime in summer is somewhat possible, but likely the June-August period is the sweet spot (probably first in US or Japan, then over the next 14 weeks a WW release), enough time to mass produce enough Rev's, a few weeks after E3 so the hype is still there.

Also the reason a June-July is right is because by the time 14 weeks have passed it'll be sometime between september and november, right around the start of the holiday season so it starts maybe in japan or the states in the summer and by the time november has come it'll be out in all the markets.

Ah yes.  The Sega Saturn strategy.  I would hope of all the strategies for Nintendo to rip off that would be one of the last ones they would consider.  Sega isn't third party for nothing.

This is very unlikely but Nintendo is pretty damn nuts so for all we know the Rev could be going gold.  "That makes no sense" isn't really a valid conclusion for Nintendo not doing something.

Ok sorry to step in aagain but the Sega Saturn was announced it would be launched in September justa  couple days before the PS1, then they stepped in and said it woud geta  limited release to select retailers five months in advance,

Announcing at e3 that the system is on its way, when no previous launch date had been set, is still different from what Sega did. Also Sega Saturn was DOA because most people who would have bought it either already wnt out and got a 32x/sega cd, OR waited for the PSX becaus eitw as cheaper and woudl have more games to play. The first year of its life Saturn OUTSOLD  playstation.

But I do think that if Nintendo is ready to launch now and is just getting games to getehr for launch, remeber a lot of GC games have been getting canceled recently anyone else think theres s connection? Maybe devs are switching thier GC projetcs over to teh Rev becuse they knwo it has a greater profit potenial since it will be a brand new system.

Anyways if you take EVRYTHING together, the Zelda delay, the Rev being very similar to make games for as GC, so many GC games getting canceled , the devs contstnly talking nothing but good about revmote, the fact that Nintendo is still proclaiming world wide release, they said Rev would laucnh around same time as competirtos, everything together points to the summer being a possibility for launch, if games are ready and if Nintendo want to make a big enough splash at E3, this would be the perfect way to do it, like a previous poster said, anounce at E3 that Revs are on thier way to stores, but do it AFTER unvailing the first wave of games, that will cause major rush to get the games and if they start marketing it like in big blockbuster movies leading up to the release they very well could build up enough hype and publicity to comletley overshadow the ps3.

True - They will have to produce less than what's pre-ordered and not ship any more units until after Christmas!!! It's the MS/Sony way. LOL

Seriously, of course a huge supply is a good thing. This guarantees that anyone who wants a Revolution can have one without waiting.

That's stupid.

Yes, hype is built if you have limited supplies.  But limited supplies also means LESS sales.  You can only sale what you make.  However, you can build hype in several ways.

The best launch would have enough consoles and games produced for everyone to buy a system that wants one at launch, but not too many that you just have them sitting on shelves collecting dust.

Nintendo Revolution is in a great position to create hype and buzz without resorting to the usual tactics.

1)Unique control device, people who love it will be spreading its praises, and even the haters will create buzz that it is a controller everyone at least has to TRY.

2)Virtual Gaming Library.  Hey, Retro gamers, here is the 100% legal way (and easy way) to collect all your favorite past games on any Nintendo system.)  This alone will create a hype.  Revolution launches with a back library of over 400 games making it the largest console launch lineup ever.  Hey if Sony tried to make those claims with the PS2, why can't Nintendo do the same with the Revolution?

3)Its true Nintendo.  Everyone thinks of Nintendo as something different and innovative.  People actually look to Nintendo for change and direction.  So I believe just the media seeing Nintendo attempt change will bring positive press, which creates hype.

Yeah, Nintendo needs to start producing their new Revolution ASAP so that we can have enough units for everyone.  And it really needs to be launched ASAP to combat Sony, and show Microsoft's big mistake.  The buzz around the Xbox 360 is already starting to die, you notice.

I agree with Spak-Spang and everyone who says that to much product can be as bad as to little.  Like oil in a car.  All pre-orders should be filled and have a little extra given to them, think things like stickers nothing to exciting but still cool.  Then there should still be enough that every place that sells game systems will have at least 2 or 3 extra.  Then there is Walmart and the like that do no pre-orders and they have the 5 or 9 at the day of launch.  With another batch being ready to go and fill gaps by the next week.  I would also personally hold off on the Kiosk displays, lets face it they'll need room and tethers, until the day the system launches to help keep down people cutting the tethering cord and stealing the controller. (It be a novelty type thing before the console was released.)  Just my thoughts -Ceric

Ceric:  I know what you mean about theft of kiosks, but at the same time.  Nintendo needs to choose one vendor that they can trust to setup and maintain a good demo kiosk to allow people try before they buy.

Either that, or Nintendo needs to create a HUGE revolution campaign bringing demo units to those Fusion Tour Parties, and to malls around America.  Letting people try the system, heck even have a prelaunch with the event where if you go there you can buy the system and a few games early or something.

Anything to create hype and buzz.

If Nintendo did something like this (assuming that you were implying that it would be Nintendo ran and not tied in with a major retailer), it would be bad.  If a major company started selling direct, the retail stores would be pissed and slow down/stop support for that company.

UncleBob:  Not if it was at a few small select events.  Yes, if they did that buy selling online or something that would be bad.

But if they had a limited number they were selling or giving away at a special party to preview the system it wouldn't cause a stir at all.  I am not talking anything big.  I am talking like at most 5,000 systems given or sold around America during these "Fusion Revolution" tour idea of mine.

It would help create buzz, because the people that would feel special and can brag and tell the internet and the world about their new system.
