Nintendo Gaming / RE: Tecmo's first game revealed (online anime-style golf)
« on: February 16, 2006, 04:31:30 AM »
It's in one of the earlier threads on the board.  I think it was Rev something or another.  He was the one that said stuff about ON and other things.  Had an interview with another guy on the last I saw it.  I thought it was February sometime around 14-16.  I could be wrong though.

Publishing for the Rev is just a step away from developing from the Rev. (Granted that step may never be taken.)

I personally think this is a pretty good article and more to be placed as an article... *hint hint* *pokes admins* ... With that out of the way.  It's the whole craft thing I like to bring up.  I'm going to use clothes.

No one will argue with me that there are some very nice looking clothes.  They have all the property of art but not considered unless they are on display.  Art is displayed not used.  "Look but don't touch"  Art is something created.  Art is never art when it's being created.  Only after it has been.  Until then it's just paint.  A performance can be art.  It has already been created and the person is just the untouchable media.  In general I agree that it can't truly be art unless it is abstracted away.  Interaction makes things unrefined and pulls them out of the art realm.

By that definition a video game could be art but only if its a routine put on for another.  So in the end Video games can never be art for the person playing it.  Only the ones around.

Tycho will be happy.  Actually I heard that the online game that is based on is really quiet good even for non-golf gamers.  Also wasn't there a Revolution blog that mentioned that a ban was lifted one the 14th actually so, that could be why we have a lot of news coming.

You know, if those drawings are real, it looks to have an optical jack in the back.  That would be an interesting revelation considering Nintendo's always just used Prologic to do that sort of thing.

I know it's just the one I'm most familar with.  Also on that one-handed remote thing.  You know after typing it out I must admit its a little far to go right now.

Edit:  Ian was writing when I wrote this so I'll just edit this.

Actually for historical accuracy sake it was Tomagotchi that it was orignal based off of.  Luckily for everyone the Second ine changed it to really de-emphasize that part.  I will admit that Pokemon and Monster Rancher are similar.  But I personally beleive that there is more similarity between the Megamans with Megaman.exe and Pokemon.  Then there was that exact clone on the GBA that used robots instead.  (Ok maybe not exact but close enough.)  I personally beleive with the success of Harvest Moon series and Animal Crossing that Monster Ranch could fair well if launched in a position between those major releases, during a draught time.  (More like not within 4 months either way of Pokemon Rev, though with the current track record of console Pokemon games it might actual help it to release near it...)  Also the tongue and cheekness of the whole game would be a welcome edition.  None of the monster descriptions are ever really that serious plus even the cartooniest (word?) one, 3, looks good and has it's fair share of just plain cool monsters.  Though that is my perspective and I'm fairly sure that Tecmo probably sees it more like you do.  That being said... Ninja Gaiden could make use of the controller I beleive but I haven't played the new version so I can't speak as an authority on the subject.  If someone who has played the new X-Box one would like to pipe in and give there impression whether the extra control would benefit it please feel free.

TalkBack / RE:Activision to Make Transformers Games
« on: February 14, 2006, 07:53:20 AM »
On the Soundwave issue.  One word... MiniDisc.

And every Transformer after G1 with the Exception of the Beast series, even though Beast Machines was way to heavy on story, Has been to touchy feely and too dependant on humans.  Plus a lack of true comaraderie(sp?), like in all the Prequal Star Wars, hurts it even more.  Mix into that the "Power Ranger" effect, going through all the major changes that made the first one exciting in a season instead of like 5, is there too.   If the movie or game is anything like the new shows I'm going to buy all it.  I mean your a super advance robot civilization and you need humans to tie your shoes.  I see seeing things from a different perspective but come on it's like the whole Megaman spike thing.  He's a robot made out of metal but can be instantly killed but these metal spikes that in real life could at best scratch him.  So let the be a lesson for all of you if you are ever chase by a super powerful robot just poke it with some thing pointy and run for it will explode.

Nintendo Gaming / Tecmo as a Rev Developer
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:52:19 AM »
I just got my hands on Monster Rancher 4 for keeps this time.  It's great.  In fact I like most of the entries into the series for different reasons.  They are all different with the same core.  Train monsters, battle in tournaments, proceed on.  I always thought that this would be an interesting series to go to Nintendo consoles.  The fit seems to be there.  For the people who liked Pokemon but would have preferred more control.  But for one obvious reason it has never came.  This is going to require a little explanation.

See in Monster Rancher you unlock Monsters by either stone tablets found in the game, combining monsters, or (and this is the biggest way) getting them from DVD's, CD's, and other games.  Since the Cube had no support for different media this limitted what it would be able to make Monsters from.  Now with the Rev DVD has been confirmed.  Even if you must have an attachment to play it straight I'm fairly sure that developers wouldn't need it to access the contents to say generate a monster perhaps.  What would be even cooler is if you could use your Virtual Console games to generate monstesr as well.

I mean you can see why I would want them to develope for the Revolution but seriously enough they have some franchise that would fill some holes.  Looking through there site they now tend to make more, I'll use adult, games.  Games for an older Demographic than G.

In short I think it would be a cool idea, plus they have a long history of game developement that would benefit from being available on the Virtual Console.

101 Million in there lowest performing branch.  Yeah that would be hard to compete with.  Plus, unlike Nintendo, Microsoft needs the usage.  I mean to put it plain and simple.  Microsoft has lately been pushing it's Mobile OS.  Being a PDA owner I beleive the last ones user experience was superior but the underworkings of the new one is so much better its worth the lame interface.  But I digress.   Last figure I saw was that Microsoft made like $5 for every copy of Mobile that was out.  It's a small market but if they can get it out and people user there standards and Codecs then they can get more for the backend things.

In the end for Microsoft some of what we see and scratch are heads about is just a play to get more usage of there other products that make them more.  Nintendo on the other hand doesn't have anything like that.  They are a game company.  Now I do have a question to pose though.  Does anybody know if Nintendo glasses are actually made by Nintendo?

The glasses never use any of the characters and always have the official logo on them.  So why would you pay for the licensing if you didn't use it? I have a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo has another side that is never saw.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:2 versions of Zelda?

You know.  Thinking about this Nintendo really dropped the ball with this one.  There theme this time around and next is ease of developement and here there are with there premier title of 2006 and they keep changing it's date.  It will have been delayed for more than a year by release.  This is a case of "Do as I say not as I do".  (Well more like "Believe what I say, not what I've proved.")

I like to point out that the sound is rumored to be wireless as well as the standard video.  So it would make sense for it to only have the digital cord's port.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Iwata to reveal Revolution details at GDC?

This being a Developer show.  They should have a tutorial on how to make a quick game on the Rev using the controller.  Give them the models and like.  Just something that could be done in a two hour tutorial.  Then show those to everyone.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution Redesign
« on: February 02, 2006, 05:30:10 AM »
After reading this and thinking about it.  It would make sense for Nintendo to do the whole migration thing.  Listen to this scenario.  Nintendo with the next GBA instead of redesigning the wheel.  By the time it should come out there should be a way to give it the power of the Cube in one easy energy conserving package.  Throw in the API's to keep it backward compatible with the GB series.  Then they could decide to use the small GCN optical disc or (which would be more there fashion seeing the DS carts)  have SD that is about the same size.  Then using the Rev as an intermediary let you take you GCN Games and play them on the new GBA.

I like to point out when you guys say "cost" I'm assuming Manafacturing cost and 50 bucks is a humongouse manafacturing cost for one feature.  It be like giving you a DS with every Rev at least.

Sort of liek how the network adapters use to be at every Walmart and game store when Nintendo thought that companies would use it?

This might sound weird but when Nintendo showed the concept system for the Rev they made the disclaimer that this is not the finished product and it would only get smaller from there.  So you might get your redesign right out of the gate.

JonLeung:  You bring a tear to my eyes :'-) Here I thought I was the only one.  Do you have a Network adapter and GBPlayer too?  Isn't the picture so much better?
