General Chat / Accounts reaching their 20th Birthday - Caterkiller
« on: February 01, 2023, 07:35:00 AM »
20 years ago I was 18. And Planet Gamecube had just switched forum formats. I started here earlier in 1999. At the time it was Operation N 2000, and simultaneously Planet N 2000. Then It became Planet Gamecube and then NWR. This is the only website I can say I frequented habitually for 20 years. Not even IGN gets that, as I haven't been there in years.

I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the past 20 years of discussions and interactions on the Nintendo World Report forums. It has been an incredible journey, filled with laughter, excitement, and a shared love for Nintendo.

I am grateful for the friendships I have made, the knowledge I have gained, and the memories I have created through this community. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful experience. Here's to another 20 years of gaming and friendship!

And happy account birthday to IanSane as well!

Netflix is ran by morons. I assume Netflix will run up such a debt that they'll have to file for bankruptcy and be bought by Apple or something. They produce too many shows.

Years ago the lack of original content was a problem, it was supported by a backlog of 1980s B movies, which was great. Then they started carrying AMC, HBO, and Showtime content, then they finally had their own shows.

Now they've gone overboard on making a new titles and then abandoning it.

Vampyres(1974) 8/10 I thought this was going to be one of those bad Jean Rollin Lesbian vampire movies, but this was a pretty good José Ramón Larraz Lesbian vampire movie.

House of Darkness 5/10 - They just took the first act of Vampyres and stretched it over a whole movie. Same conversational points.

Lair of the White Wurm -8/10  another similar movie, but this one directed by Ken Russell has some panache. This version had my favorite version of the countess archetype.

The Lure - 8/10 - about as good as a Naked Polish Mermaid Stripper Musical can get. I'd recommend it if you feel like watching something... different.

I'm in!

I need to water this tree before it dies.

Well there is the Fox X-men reboot strategy.

Fox released First Class, which rebooted X-men. They were able to keep some stuff, and move on.

And Marvel has has some soft reboots in the past. We don't see Terrance Howard or Edward Norton running around as super heroes. Edgar Wrights Ant-man never happened.

To make a super hero universe work, everyone's ego but the producers has to be hung up on the coat rack. Why was Batman Forever better than Batman and Robin? probably a lot of egos working against the movie by that time.

Actually the Burton Schumacher anthology is actually something to look at for reboots. They kept on Alfred and Commisioner Gordon, and Robin for the second set, but the villains changed, even batman changed, and it really didn't matter. Not great movies, but the general public were a lot more capable of moving on with new casting at the time.

I think they'll build the new universe with the Aquaman and Peacemaker crew staying and everyone who can't hang or has too much of an ego or wants too much money is going to get recast. I'm not even sure Gal Gadot is gone, but Patty Jenkins may not be meshing.

I think the best thing they can do is Cast Khary Payton as the live action Cyborg and play his theme song.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people have been banned for no reason and that is why it is just the most dead it has ever been. I can't have this place be dead, my 20th year since registration anniversary is coming up!

The biggest two reasons why there isn't a new console yet is because Switch is doing well, and there are supply chain issues right now. And maybe the pattern got lost in the executive changeover.

NES(Famicom) and SNES -  7 years, 4 months, 6 days
SNES and N64 - 5 years, 7 months, 2 days
N64 and GCN -  5 years, 2 months, 22 days
GCN and Wii -  5 years, 2 months, 5 days
Wii and Wii U -  5 years, 11 months, 30 days
Wii U and Switch -  4 years, 3 months, 13 days

Switch to now -  5 years, 9 months, 16 days

This is the longest iteration of hardware ever. Nintendo could have had a successful pattern changeover and released it on March 17th of 2023 after announcing it in October like they did with the Switch.

I should look into how they do handhelds though.

I solved this problem by keeping my Wii U unplugged for the last 2 years

Now with Narcissism.

I think the biggest issue with the DC universe is the main characters will be public domain soonish

Superman 2034
Batman 2035
Green Lantern 2036
Shazam 2036
Aquaman 2037
Wonder Woman 2038

That may seem like a long time, but Man of Steel came out almost 10 years ago. Warner Bros. Has been slow with output.

I think Activision Blizzard is smaller in the grand scheme of things than people think. I'd be more concerned if they bought Valve, or Epic studios. The only thing that's going to happen from Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard is there will probably be a resurgence of 1990s PC franchises.  Which, won't happen otherwise.

I think Microsoft is going to move on from the X-box brand in the next generation. There is no need for PCs and consoles to be separate things.

I wonder how many of these actors are just going to fly over to DC when their characters die?

I did a set inspired by Gonzo, but I'd have to look for them.

This is really the painting that inspired the set
