Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Virtual Console Mondays Thread

I still kind of like the original Smash Brothers. It has a certain simplicity to it which makes it appealing, but it isn't overly simple to the point of redundant action like SSBBrawl. The stages are some of the best in the series; it's a shame they didn't continue with such designs and went with more contrived arenas. Plus it is also the most balanced of the three games, likely due to the smallish character roster.

Melee still beats it by far, but the simplicity and slower speed of the original Smash is still enjoyable to return to every now and again.

Wait a sec, why is Smash Brothers 1,200 points? I thought N64 games were all 1,000...

What do you think of Meteos? I'm looking for a good puzzle game on DS and I'm wondering which one I should get.

Hm, nothing which really interests me. I'm thankful there's a huge back catalogue for me to sift through.

Thank you Maxi, but I already found it and read it. I forgot to say it was the Wii version BTW, and after reading the review I'm not so sure it is something I'd like. Now I'm really considering returning it to the store and hoping my sister doesn't find out... (she gave it to me)

The only other game I received was Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Mostly I just get money and/or gift cards as I'm not easy to shop for. Today I went out shopping, and with my Christmas money I bought a Nintendo DS along with Super Mario 64 and New Super Mario Brothers. The thing's been out for over four years now so I figured it was about time I get myself one, even if just for the Mario games. I have yet to play either game I bought; oddly enough, I went straight for the Nintendo Channel and downloaded some game demos. Therefore, the first DS game I played was Lock's Quest, which bored me. Start with the bad to appreciate the good, I sometimes say.

If the price were right this might be a good package.

The problem with this idea is that I would still have to get up off the couch and go to the door. I'm still waiting for the firmware update which will allow food to be delivered through the disk slot... Pizza might work best, maybe hotcakes.

17908
I did get a piece of shovelware for Christmas... Thrillville: Off The Rails. I'm having trouble deciding if I should try it or just return it... Maybe I'll check to see if there's a review of it on this site.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The top N64 features

A tip for all N64 owners: grease up your analogue stick with ceramic grease. It will virtually eliminate all wear and tear through normal use. You'll have to apply it about once a year though, as the stuff seems to evaporate or something...

Anyways, I chose these options:

The Controller itself
The N64 controller is my favourite controller, three-prong monstrosity that it is. Its bulkiness actually made it very comfortable to hold, and it is lighter than it looks... unless you stick a rumble pack in it. The buttons are all easy to reach as well, and the six face buttons opens many possibilities.

Most of it's games were multiplayer friendly
Damn straight. At the time there were no better multiplayer games available, and the four controller ports included on the system brought gaming parties to the next level. Who doesn't have fond memories of playing at least one multiplayer N64 game, be it Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Mario Kart, Bomberman, Smash Brothers, Mario Party, or any other one of the myriad of titles available.

It moved gaming into 3-D
Nothing I can really say about this which hasn't been covered before.

I didn't ignore this forum, I just kind of forgot that I created an account here. Perhaps there is some sort of trial I can undertake in order to achieve forgiveness?

As for your question Maxi, there are many types of games that I like. It's easier to list the types of games I don't like so much: fighting, sports, and RPG. I'm not into the head-to-head competition of fighting games, nor do I like games with complex button combos. Simulation sports games I tend to find dull and bland; a sports game needs a twist to interest me, such as in NFL Blitz or the Mario spin-offs. RPGs progress too slowly and take too long to complete to remain interesting, although I like some of the old-school RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG, and of course Earthbound.

Beyond that I pretty much like everything. So long as a game isn't technically broken, like overrun with glitches, controls problems and such, there's a good chance I'd enjoy it on some level.

As I said before, I have a "healthy" obsession with the Mario series, so anything with Mario and company in it is pretty much a must-own. I know that some people hated on the GameCube because of the abundance of Mario games, but to me it seems such people are just blind to the awesomity of Mario. :)

I'm afraid I have to disagree about Mario Kart Wii... best Wii game yet. Even some of the things you didn't like about it are reasons why I like it so much. Of course, I seem to be the only person in the entire universe who thinks that Smash Brothers Melee is a far better game than Smash Brothers Brawl, so I can respect your opinions and feelings about MKWii.

Anyways, unfortunately I've played only six games released in 2008... but those games I'd rank like this:

6. Boom Blox
5. Super Smash Brothers Brawl
4. House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
3. Bomberman Blast
2. Mario Super Sluggers
1. Mario Kart Wii

The Game & Watch collection contains only three games? That's kind of disappointing. Even the original Game & Watch Gallery for the Game Boy had four games on it, including modernized versions of each game which made them more complex yet also easier.

I think I'll hold off on registering and hope that they add some more stuff soon.

Five options isn't enough, I want to choose every single game.
Although one of my choices was the "one of my choices were not on this list" option, there are actually 242 other games I wanted to select.

Yes, the N64 is that awesome. ;D

Hi!

Hooray Newbies! That's me, a newbie.

Well, since I created this account four years ago, technically I'm not a newbie. But since I practically never poasted, I figured I should introduce myself.

I'm Mop_it_up.

My main gaming interest is of course Nintendo. I have an original PlayStation but it rarely sees any action, other than a few beatdowns with a bat. Despite its failings, my favourite system is probably the Nintendo 64.

I am endlessly obsessed with Mario and related material. I'll try my best not to mention Mario in topics where it doesn't belong.  :)

Well, that's it for me.
Cheers!

I visit here all of the time and just lurk. Yesterday when I visited, I noticed the username in which I use everywhere was listed as having a birthday. I don't remember ever creating an account here, but I figured it was too much of a coincidence for there to be another "Mop_it_up" with the exact same birthday. A few "password incorrect" screens later and here I am.

I didn't think anyone would notice, but since someone did I felt I had to say something.

Went to work for 8 hours.
Wrapped some Christmas presents.
More work on computer.

It was just another December day unfortunately. Might try doing some celebration tomorrow since it's Saturday. Later on today I'm going to play some SSBMelee, since I got it seven years ago today. There's nobody around to play it with, but I have to play it due to tradition.  :)

Thanks Maxi!

I completely forgot that I created an account here. I didn't even enter in my correct age... maybe I'll fix that.

Perhaps I'll poast again in another three years.

Cheers!

Ooooh, I want it!
*checks wallet*
But I can't afford it! Wah!
I think I'm a company's worst nightmare, because I wait until a game is in a bargain bin before I buy it. So although I'd like to see the game sell well, if it bombs, it'll be in the bargain bin that much faster.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Official IWATATON Speech Thread
« on: September 15, 2005, 07:35:11 PM »
After much thought and reading of acticles, I have gone through many emotions after first laughing at the pictures. Excited, scared, bored, confident, angry, curious, happy, confused... Now I'm a mix of them all. And let me tell you, having eight emotions at once isn't a good feeling, especially when some of them are sort of contradicting. But I think I'll hold in my opinions on this controller until I get some more info on what games will be using its features.

The only downside is now I can't wait to test this thing out.

I have a 64-in-1 cartridge. It has Super Mario, Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Brothers - all the same. It's hard to believe that game is twenty years old. I still remember when I got it for Christmas 13 years ago. Seems like it was just last year. Anyone else remember when they first got theirs?

"I think we have a Jones employee in our midst."

Nope, just one crazy nut who loves Jones! And about the advertise thing, this is what it says on the back of each bottle:

"Ya gotta make a lining somehow; we chose the beverage world. Good old soda with a twist. No hidden meanings, no billion dollar ad campaigns. At Jones, we want you to buy a lot of soda and recycle the bottles. The labels are kinda like our minds - always changing. Run with the little guy... create some change."

I could recite it in my sleep! The cans don't have anything on them, they're pretty drab to look at, but the soda inside is so... so... *chugs a Barry Lemonade*

Jones doesn't advertise, so I'm sure there are a lot of people who haven't heard of it! Check your local convenient store or gas station; those types of stores usually carry it! *chugs green apple soda before clicking reply*

It's true! I went to Target to check it out! The twelve packs are so much cheaper than the four packs of bottles! I grabbed a Green Apple and a Berry Lemonade! DELICIOUS!!!
