I cast my vote for Horizon Forbidden West both here and at The Game Awards, where you can select up to ten choices. However, I'd like to highlight Stray, currently in my backlog and holding the spot as my most anticipated game from the backlog. While I'm still completing Sackboy, I hope to dive into Stray soon. Although I was content with the PS4 version of The Last of Us and didn't enjoy the previous God of War as much as many others, I don't have plans to acquire either of those.
It's crazy how much this matches my situation from last year. I was the one person who voted for Forbidden West, I had Stray in my backlog, I was still working on Sackboy, and I passed on Last of Us and God of War for the same reasons mentioned above.

The only thing that would keep me from picking Dave the Diver here is questions over the definition of indie. It's one of my favorite games this year period, and almost certainly in my overall top 5 alongside the big hits from Nintendo.
Yeah, after watching checkpoint from last week I realize that I should have listened to Evan_B and moved it to Multiplatform game. If the any mods want to magically make that happen  ;)  would not object.
Alternatively everyone can vote Dave the Diver and have it win best Indy just to spotlight my mistake further  ;D

This is a tough category. Not just because the definition of an indie game is nebulous, but the number of indie games is so great that many do not get reviewed anymore. I tried to comb through the NWR reviews and include anything with a 9 or higher to get this list. Some of these I have not even hear of otherwise.
I will say that Cocoon is on my wish list having loved Inside and Limbo. Rakuen is also on my wish list. I feel like as my backlog has gotten worse, these digital only games have seemed to fall behind compared with ones that get a physical version.
I tried playing the first Moving Out but it seemed to be so much harder than Overcooked. Maybe the second one is a more balanced experience.
Sea of Stars, Cocoon, Dave the Diver, Dredge, and Viewfinder comprise the nominees from The Game Awards. The Game Awards actually has two indie awards, with one specifically for new studios.

Has anyone picked up a Meta Quest 3 yet? If so I am wondering how much better it is than the second gen model.

I thought that Octopath Traveler II was a switch exclusive until I prepared this event. It also feels like that game came out sometime before this year. Theatrhythm was another one that seems like it could have been switch only. This was suppose to be a place for all the non-tendo games, but most of these are available on switch.
Diablo IV is the one I am most interested in. I picked up a copy during the recent sales for PS5. I am hoping to play it online with a friend but it is still on my backlog.
Baldur's Gate 3 is probably the frontrunner in most game awards but not necessarily with this one. I do think Street Fighter has a really cool art style and sometimes just watch people playing on Twitch.

It was surprising how long this list was. We certainly do live in an age of recycled media, which can be nice. The one game on here I have played is the Mega Man collection. I only played the first Battle network game but really appreciate its existence, having not owned a GBA.
I picked up Metroid Prime day 1 but it is still on my backlog. Having played the original a few years ago, I am not in a hurry to revisit it yet. Advance Wars is on my wish list, and I will probably pick it up when it drops to $30.
Kirby's Return to Dreamland is probably my favorite Kirby game, but I am fine with the Wii version. I am playing Etrian Odyssey 4 on 3DS currently and its great, but I certainly don't need three more of those on my backlog. I am interested in the Metal Gear games, but I did not hear good things about this collection on switch. Persona 4 I have on Vita (backlog) and Mario RPG I have on the SNES mini (also backlog).

This is a decent line up of switch exclusives for the year. I managed to play Cereza and the Lost Demon, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They are all amazing games so it was a tough choice. I do have Fire Emblem on my backlog and Illusion Island on my wish list (it never really got a price cut on black Friday).
You might think that Zelda will easily win this award, but I have heard some folks saying Mario is their GOTY. Both of those games are up for something at The Game Awards on Thursday. I will probably report any winners here on Friday. Still plenty of time to vote and chime in on Switch exclusives for 2023.

This appears noticeable lower than previous Image and Form games. SteamWorld Dig 2 (10, 9.5), SteamWorld Heist (9.5) SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech (9). I heard the "little replay value" comment from another reviewer but I doubt I will have time to replay this. I will probably still pick this up if Super Rare games makes a physical version.

I had not heard of this game before. Rampage was one of my favorite arcade games growing up. I just wishlisted it and with the right discount will probably pick this up.

I think we are all waiting for Khushrenada to finish Xenoblade Chronicles X before we start this game.

I have heard that Dave the Diver is not an independent game. But, that does call into question what an independent game is, these days.

According to Wikipedia's article for the game
"Dave the Diver is the first game from Mintrocket, a subsidiary of Nexon. Taehwan Kim, Vice President of Nexon America stated that Dave the Diver, "may look like an indie, but it's not necessarily the case".[7]
The source cited there is Korean.

So it is "not necessarily" an independent game  ???
On the other hand, The Game Awards did nominate it for Best Independent Game.  :-\

Does anyone else think it should be moved to Best Switch game?

It is time to collect the nominations for the second annual Nintendo World Report Forum Awards. I have restructured the categories to be more Nintendo focused due to low interest in the other platforms last year. Here are my short lists for nominees:

  • The Case of the Golden Idol

  • Viewfinder
  • Wargroove 2

Again, these are just my short lists. Please comment below any games you want included in the list of nominations. Also let me know if you have questions about the categories or think a game should be included in a different category. Finally, we will try to implement nickmitch's "Backlogged Game of the Year". For that award we will just post replies to the polls to indicate which nominees are still on our backlog (i.e., we have not played them yet). The game backlogged by the most users will win the award.

I am hoping to start the voting December 1 so make sure to get in your nominees before then!

A pretty big week for releases. I am still just going to play the original Super Mario RPG via the SNES classic, when I get a chance. My partner is picking up Hogwarts Legacy after the long wait for the switch version.

I looked up the Jinsei game and it appears to be a Japanese version of the board game "The Game of Life". Seems strange that this would be so popular.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: NSO November 2023! (AKA Not Another Forum Event!)
« on: November 06, 2023, 04:25:24 PM »
I only have the basic NSO and have played very little of it. Khush and I played through a handful of games some time ago and it was fun. I am definitely up for doing more of that with folks.
I am interested in playing a few of the games solo as well. I started Mario Land and plan to finish that so hopefully this will motivate me to do that.
I am up for playing some online Wii U before that goes away. check my backloggery to see what I have there.
You can message me here or in Discord.

Demon's Souls is the 4th FromSoft game I've completed, following Bloodborne; Sekiro; & the original Dark Souls.

Which of these Souls games would you recommend to someone looking to play their first in this genre? I have come close to picking up Bloodborne, Dark Souls remastered, and Dark Souls 3 at times, but never was quite sure where to start.

I really enjoyed Atari 50. Not just the museum style interface, but the updated versions of games like Yar's revenge. If that is what Digital Eclipse focuses on, that is great, but who will make all the great compilations for Capcom and Konami?  ???
