Title: Japanese Developers comment on plans for 2006
Post by: BlackNMild2k1 on December 25, 2005, 12:59:19 PM
These comments are come from Dorimaga Magazine
Quote

Tetsuya Nomura (SQUARE ENIX)
In 2006, we will not be announcing any huge projects. But we will be making preparations for 2007.

Akitoshi Kawazu (SQUARE ENIX)
I can guarantee that "FF12" will be released on March 16. At E3, we will also reveal a new title.

Yoshinori Yamagishi (TRI-ACE)
"VP2" supports progressive scan. Visuals won't be much different from the next generation.

Keiji Inafune (CAPCOM)
In 2006, we will announce many new titles.

Akihiro Hino (LEVEL 5)
We are working on a non-RPG title. Though "True Fantasy Online" has been cancelled. It has inspired us to make something new. This isn't "True Fantasy". More of a spiritual successor.

Hideo Kojima (KONAMI)
I will be releasing some of my drafts, and working on the creation of someone else.

Yu Suzuki (SEGA)
Busy working on "Shenmue Online".

Yoshi Niki (NAMCO)
We are making a new "Tales" game. After the "NAMCO BANDAI" merger, there will be revolutionary changes.

Takanobu Terada (BANPRESTO)
After Super Robot Wars J, we won't be releasing games for a period of time. But we do have a new "SRW" title planned for the PS2.

Tomonobu Itagaki (TECMO)
After the development of "DOA4", we will be taking a short break.

Kazunori Yamauchi (POLYPHONY)
Tourist Trophy is nearing completion. After, we will be concentrating fully on the next "GT" game.

Yoshiki Sugiyama (KOEI)
We would like to develop for the Revolution.

I believe everything bolded to possibly be Revolution related.  Especially the ones that say Revolution.

And does the Hideo Kojima comment confirm that he is indeed working on another compaies game and therefore putting some weight behind the 'Hideo Kojima working on a Nintendo game' rumors?

I don't know what KOEI's problem is... I can understand them bailing on the N64 because their games are so well-suited to a CD platform... but their "support" for Nintendo since then has been nothing short of shameful. The Gamecube got one marginal game that was decidedly targetted at children, and has anyone played Dynasty Warriors for the GBA? I'd call it the worst abuse of a quality franchise we've seen in years, but my mind keeps going back to the dreadful Gauntlet Legends game.

The talk for the DS has been a bit more promising... we're evidently getting RoTK for the DS (not holding my breath on localization) among other thngs. Hopefully it's a sign of an improving Nintendo-KOEI relationship, but I'm not holding my breath until I see how much effort they put in those DS titles

Dynasty Warriors for the DS will be online.  I would think that if they're doing that they must be at least trying.

More from Kojima (from IGN)
Quote

Hideo Kojima -- Konami, Metal Gear Solid Producer
Kojima gives himself a low 35 out of 100 for the year because he didn't release anything new. He wanted to leave Metal Gear Solid 4 to his staff so that he could start up a new game, but was unable to do this. Regarding next generation development -- specifically Metal Gear Solid 4 -- he jokes that Konami had already started work on Xbox 360 games back when Metal Gear Solid 3 finished completion, and it's somewhat annoying to have to play catch up. He doesn't seem too keen on the idea of multiplatform development, stating that he believes it important for game designers to concentrate exclusively on a single platform so that they can bring out the platform's special features and better target its audience. He does admit to wanting to make games for all three next generation platforms, though, giving the nod in particular to Revolution as a platform that, as a designer, it would be "foolish" for him to pass up on. With Revolution, he adds, he'd like to make strives in areas other than graphics and sound, a change for him, as he believes he's known as someone who pursues realistic visuals owing to his love of movies. Revolution isn't the platform he most wants to support, though. That honor goes to the PC, although he admits that his staff doesn't take so kindly to this position. The games that left the greatest impression with Kojima were Shadow of the Colossus and God of War, both of which he praises for having well defined themes, game settings and world views. The event or happening that left the greatest impression with him was the reorganization of Konami which left Kojima Productions a subsidiary.

Since Revolution fell 2nd to only the PC in the 'platform he most wants to support' category, but the rest of his staff doesn't want to support the PC, does that automatically bump Revolution to the #1 slot?  We(me) already assume he has been working on a Rev game(Nintendo franchise?)for a while now, as he has been praising the Revolution since he's been allowed to talk about it.

I wonder how much of it is gonna just be talk this time around though?

The important thing is what his stockholder masters want him to do.

BUILD ME A DISNEY SOCCER GAME, WORTHY OF MORDOR.

-YES MY EMPORER-

And always count on the lying, two-faced hypocrisy of 3rd parties.

Well with Kojima Productions being a subsidiary to Konami, I figured he would have a considerable amount of control as to what projects he can do compared to how things used to be decided.

Capcom doesn't make Monster Rancher.  Tecmo does.  But being a huge fan of the series Monster Rancher: Revolution would be interesting say the least.

The funny thing is, Kojima can't make crap outside of the Metal Gear games. I wouldn't expect anything too exciting for the Rev from Kojima. Probably another stupid Boktai sequal where you take the Rev controller outside to absorb sunlight or something.

There's a huge difference between Kojima can't and Kojima hasn't. He might not be in the same league as Shiggy or Yuji Naka or Yu Suzuki... but it would be a mistake to underestimate him.

The Metal Gear titles are the bulk of what he's done, and they've been wthout exception high quality titles with a lot of polish. I'd love to see him try his hands at updating the old Policenauts game with more of a free-wheeling, adventure feel (think True Crime with more adventure elements and a Sci-fi bend).

Bankai would sound even cooler if Snake was saying it.
