Nintendo Gaming / Re: Forum Snap Poll: How Sold Are You on the Switch?
« on: November 04, 2016, 10:19:12 PM »
I can see the Switch doing extremely well over in Japan since most of them game on the go anyhow but I really can't see it being a big hit in the NA or European markets.

This is going be expensive for a Nintendo handheld (the 3ds sales bombed in the beginning before the massive price cuts).

-----------

Doubt I'll get one before year 3 mostly just so I can play "Nintendo" games.  .

So basically this system is an Tablet with controller support and hdmi output?  *cough* Shield *cough*

Not what I expected.  It doesn't offer anything "new" in the gameplay department unless I missed something?

So not only does the WII U get the game last, but it gets an price increase?  And this was Nintenod's big announcement?

WTF is up with the WII U shipments?  My local area has the WII U holiday bundle (Splatoon+SSB) as sold out and they don't plan on getting anymore until another 2 weeks?  Targets in my area had to throw in voucher's because they didn't even have the minimum number to cover the BF ad?  BestBuy was supposed to have a shipment of 40, yet they had only 15?

Wow, that PSX, Sony's going for the kill.

Some more PC remakes of Tim Schafer games plus two  Psychonauts games planned (one VR and other being funded kick starter).

Nioh, a njnja gaiden type game by Team Ninja, looked great.  Hopefully Team Ninja leaves out the QTE this time.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom by Level 5--hell yeah, Sony's answer to Pokémon, loved the first one (well actually the second one since there was an Japanese DS game that was never released in the states).

King of Fighters XIV.  I'm not a big fighting fan but Sony's locking down some serious fighting muscle this gen, first it took SFV, now KoF, and some say Tekken 7 is going be exclusive?

And lastly you have all of Sony's inhouse games like Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, MLB the Show, and all those VR demos.

Damn, easily the best PSX in years.

it sounds like the NX isn't going be another home console, Nintendo keeps saying it's something "new" so I'm still thinking it's going be VR enable.

They do have holograms projects in the works but so far those seem a bit steep in pricing and they seem to only offer one color :().  Maybe another 10 years before we get an hologram projector in our living rooms.

"[WIU] Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival <TBL> (Nintendo) {2015.11.21} (¥6.480) - 6.022 / 26.325 (-70%)"

Man, really glad this game bombed.  Whoever "greenlite" this project should have been canned, seriously, an AC board game + forcing people to buy amiibo's too.  God awful.

--------

Splatoon sales continue to impress.  Wouldn't be surprised to see an sequel by 2017.

--------

Minecraft vita is another evergreen title that continue to sell well even in Japan.   Wonder what the total sales are for the region if you counted PC and phone?  Might be the highest western developed game published in Japan.

Man, Monster Hunter X sales numbers in Japan.  I never could figure out why this series is so popular in Japan but it continues to sell well with every yearly installment.

Nintenod's deal with Capcom really gave Sony's Vita a major death blow.

Actually any blu-disc has that issue.  The top layer to the bottom record layer isn't very thick and what happens is "light" gets though making it hard for the laser to read correctly.

Had a few movies that my PS3/Ps4 couldn't read even though the disc was right out of the packaging.  :(

TalkBack / Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U) Review
« on: November 30, 2015, 01:10:40 PM »
Yeah, it went off my radar as soon as the Japanese reviews hit.  Excessive grinding with skills unlocking at a snail pace (basically like any MMO game) and the paperthin characters and story really kills my interest in the game.

In Japan, grinding games like Monster Hunter do extremely well but in the states it's seems most of use are looking towards story driven games like Fallout 4/MassEffect.

They were $150 from day 1 in Japan, this is just a price reduction.  So I doubt we'll ever get the Gamepad separate in the states.

My city has a local Nintendo sponsor repair shop and for a simple screen replacement it's like $55 the labor costs ($25 a hour/but the employees only take $9/hour).

A simple analog swap wouldn't be more than $30 I would say, $5 piece of hardware.  You can actually do this yourself, it's rather easy.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Any Chance the NX will support 4K?
« on: November 20, 2015, 01:52:39 AM »
Shield is only running native 720Pgaming and 1080 while it's using "grid" (think Cloud).

To run current gen games at 4K you'll need some serious muscle and I doubt Nintendo's going try launching the NX at (PS3) pricing of $700+.

You're not going be able to "build'" an $300-400 console that's capable of gaming at 4k in the next year, hell I would say in the next three years.

So I still think you're better off saving your money and buying the cheaper 1080P TV or spending the money on a much larger set.

My guess, VR gaming might 'finally" have a future.  That new Crytek demo is just plain sick.

Actually, MS lost Japanese and Europe support and there's quite a few games that are coming only to PS4 because MS's crappy sales numbers overseas.  Star Ocean 5 sreams to mind.  No deal was made for it's exclusiveness but the developer wanted to focus on ONE platform instead of multiple.

1.  Most 4k sets are "smart" enabled meaning you can already stream Netflix and other apps.

2.  Nintendo refuses to pay out royalties, hense no Blu-ray support or the common Dobly Surround stuff, the WII U used PCM.

So unless it's for gaming, 4K on a NX would be kinda pointless?

Doubt it, 4k gaming is still along ways off for consoles.  Hell I'll be happy with 1080P/60FPS.  So unless you plan on watching movies/sports or hooking up an gaming PC, then a 4k TV might be a poor investment.  Give it two years and those $2500 sets would be less than $500 and you'll still be "console" gaming at subpar 1080P :(.

Bayonetta 2 (comes with Bayonetta 1) for $35 at Gamespot. 11/10/15

For Black Friday, Splatoon is $35 (or $29 with Gamer's Club discount) at BB.  Cheapest I seen it go in the NA.

Splatoon really might hit 1 million sales in Japan by years end.  Nintendo should be very pleased with those numbers for a new IP.  Can't wait for the sequel.

MS is making a big push this holiday seasons with the Xbox One.  Some might call it desperate, but it's working, I know 5 people buying one last weekend alone (GS promo, $250 Xbox one bundle+CODBOIII+second controller after $100 trade-in value for last gen).

There's been plenty of "knockoffs" during the years though.  So while Sony doesn't have Mario Kart, it does have similar games.

Also while the WII did bring back platformers, I find myself enjoying "indie" platform games just as much as Nintendo own Mario Games.

I wonder why Nintendo never leases out it's own engines.  I would have an teir license agreement based on software sales, if a game does well than pay up royalities; if it bombs, pay nothing.  Something to attract third party developers for making exclusive games on Nintendo platforms.

There's third-party multiplatform engines like Unity but they really don't optimize for Nintendo's products.  Middleware engines :(.

I would've loved to see a Sonic Game running on SM3DWorld's engine.

"Every retail Dremcast game was 1.2GB"

Yet the actual data was less than that 95% of the time.  So the CDR DC copies didn't record all those "empty tracks" so it's not 1:1 by your standards.

-----------------------------------------------

23
What's funny is your agruement is that piracy didn't hurt the DC but your own link quotes this
" In January, new releases started coming few and far between, since most of the games that could have been ripped had already been ripped. In mid-February 2001, Sega announced the end of Dreamcast unit production would take place on 31Mar01 citing the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars, and many third party companies scrapped their DC games in development even if they were near completion for more viable platforms, such as the Playstation 2, Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft X-Box. "

24
That info is so not correct.

You can "trick" your burner (I had an 2X CD burner first generation) into 1:1 ratio with GD-ROMS.  The only issue would be if the game was over 720MB (or 1GB if you overburn) and very few DC games were.

Disc swapping:

"The second method consisted on the typical disc swapping. It worked by introducing a CD filled with data on your computer, and swapping it with a GD-Rom without your computer knowing it. That way the PC thought there was data all the way to the end of the disc, due to it using the CD’s TOC, instead of the newly swapped GD’s  TOC. This method produced a 1:1 copy of the disc."

-------------

25
"The PlayStation only needed a GameShark and a spring (or a pen cap or anything that pressed the "lid is closed" button) to play games off of CD-R."

And that workaround came towards the end of it's life and needed additional hardware, vs DC which needed nothing from day 1:(.  Big difference.

As far "Dreamcast games are on a GD-ROM"  LoL, only a few select games required more than 720MB.  Very few 1GB games.  You didn't need an connection to the Dreamcast neither.  PC burners could read the disc files just disc swap.
