** For visitors coming from outside of NWR, *READ THE POST*, or you will miss the context, making the pictures as useless as a release list.

This Wall should diminish the negative feelings of other threads like it.  There is goodness to be shared.

This Wall disproves the "Nintendo makes way more casual games than core games" myth perpetuated by some.
This Wall represents the hardest work in all spheres of game development and marketing.
This is the Highest Rated Wall.
This is the Riskiest Wall -- 2-D Platformers, in this age?  Wii Fit?  Wii Sports?

This Wall deserves the most customers.  No other wall delivers this union of entertainment and peace of mind.  Trust gives it strength.  Quality and Respect for customers are its foundation.

You stand before a mountain, looking uphill for some disaster.  Where is Nintendo's avalanche of casual games?  Wii Gamer, do you see it?  NO!  It is of children's FAIRY TALES and MAKE-BELIEVE.  What brightly towers before you is Goodness.  THIS you already know, because you are, after all, its customers.

That's right, folks.  The console wars have now invaded the TV MARKET.

Toshiba adds Cell processor to TVs
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1567848/toshiba-adds-cell-tvs

LG add "Wii" Pointer functionality to TVs
http://kotaku.com/5441810/lgs-newest-hdtvs-claim-wii+like-control-experience
video:  http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/lg-magic-motion-gesture-control-hdtv-remote-hands-on/

Even outside of video gaming, the Wii values and PS3 values are competing.

Personally, I'd want my fat TV to act as a giant replacement sensor bar.  It'd solve a lot of IR pointer distance-jitter issues.

Head to The FonduePit, TONIGHT 6:45 PM PST West Siiiide

Bring your FRIED COD to this thread, if necessary.  They must be consumed fresh.

I've already accepted a bunch of dormant and forgotten FRIED COD requests.

My ingame codename is:  REGGIE
2837-0217-3040

TONIGHT'S THEME:

"Wiimote aim."  (and somewhat aiming)

Two game types will be played:

1.  Handguns ONLY.  (all forms of grenades and other attacks are prohibited; Jumping prohibited unless you get stuck or need to climb places)
2.  Grenades ONLY (aka Party At The Ammo Box aka BOMBERMAN).  (all forms of grenades allowed; all other attacks are prohibited; Jumping allowed)

We could alternate the rule sets for every other match.  But to be sure, I'll notify everyone of a Grenades-ONLY match by suicide-bombing myself at the beginning of a match.

Anyone breaking the rules risks getting gangbanged by the other players (weapon rules still apply).

This is a brief guide that may help some improve their Wii game's online performance (particularly, Super Space Animals Sword People Serious Fighters).  This guide assumes you have full access to your router's settings, you are comfortable navigating and changing your router's settings, and that your Wii connects to the internet directly thru the router.

(If your Wii connection goes thru a firewall and/or another computer before reaching the router, you've overcomplicated things and I can't help you, so get out).

If you have any questions on a particular procedure, feel free to ask below.

Much of this is taken from Nintendo's horribly-navigated help page despair page, but should be easier to read and digest.  Beyond these procedures, the fate of online Brawl rests with Brawl's programming, your ISP's performance, and Nintendo's servers.

~~~~~
==Router Setup==
1)  Assign your Wii a static IP address.  You'll probably need to enter your Wii's MAC Address to make the assignment work.
**If you're unsure where to find the MAC address, have your Wii connect to any WFC or WiiConnect24 service, then go into your router configuration and look at the list of attached devices.  Hopefully you can narrow down which MAC address belongs to your Wii while the rest are other active computers on your network.
2)  Enable "Port Forwarding" for your Wii static IP address.  The forwarded ports should cover the range: 1 to 65534.
**Alternative:  set that IP address as the "DMZ" server, if available.  I prefer using DMZ cuz it was easier to set in my router.
3)  Set the connection type to "UDP", instead of "TCP" or "TCP/UDP".  Wii online games specifically use UDP.
4)  [Wi-Fi Users]  Set the wireless/broadcast channel to something like 1, 2, 10, or 11.  "6" is the factory default for most retail routers; because the channel might be crowded by your neighbors' routers, it should be avoided.
**Wii LAN Adapter users don't have to worry about this.  LAN Adapter users also don't have to worry about mobile phones, bluetooth devices, and other Wi-Fi computers interferring with their Wii's connection (yes, it's true. other wireless activity can cause slight delays or total failure, especially when Brawl's net code sucks in the first place).
==Wii Settings==
1)  "Auto-Obtain IP Address" should be "No".  In the Advanced Settings, enter the (above) Wii-specific IP address, the Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.
2)  "Auto-Obtain DNS" should be "No".  In the Advanced Settings, enter the Preferred DNS server and the Alternate DNS server.
3)  MTU value should be 1500 in most cases.
**If you don't know your Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS Servers,
1.  Open up your Windows Run box
2.  Type "cmd" and hit Enter
3.  In this window (the prehistoric black/white "Microsoft DOS" interface), type "ipconfig/all" and hit Enter
4.  The information should be listed
~~~~~

Here's what my info looks like, as an example:

Wii IP Address:  192.168.1.25  . . . . . . . . . .  (the address I chose, within my network)
Subnet Mask:  255.255.255.0  . . . . . . . . . .  (my network's subnet mask, simply looked it up)
Default Gateway:  192.168.1.1  . . . . . . . . . .  (my router's IP address, within my network)
Preferred DNS Server:  192.168.1.1  . . . . . . . . . .  (my router's IP address, within my network)
Alternate DNS Server:  192.168.1.1  . . . . . . . . . .  (my router's IP address, within my network)
MTU:  1500

Nintendo Gaming / What Wii games deserve Nintendo's marketing $$$?
« on: March 18, 2008, 01:56:28 PM »
For every super-hyped piece of software Nintendo releases, there seems to be one or more Nintendo-published titles that Nintendo doesn't care for you (general public, not this forum) to know about.  What's up with that?

What's coming out this year that should have a healthy marketing campaign?  There's Mario Kart (and Brawl, region permitting), and there's... Mario Kart.  Yeah, Nintendo doesn't care to tell us.

Just a list and commentary on the various gun shells out there, particularly the SMG/rifle style shells.  The pistol styles are weak, so I'm not gonna deal with them.  I'd also like to hear who's got one, what games they use it with, and what you think about it.

Things I thought about include:
- How's the spacing between the hand grips?
- How does the main trigger feel?
- Does it have the little A-notch/V-notch gun sights?
- Does it let you hide the Nunchuck cord?
- Does it look like ass?
- Does the shell material cause any problems?
- Does it have a gimmick, like unattaching the Nunchuck grip?
- Does a game allow button customization?
- Do a game's waggle gimmicks undermine the shell's usefullness?
- How well/badly does line-of-sight firing work?

>> See how a couple of these shells work in Ghost Squad (live demo DivX videos at page bottom)

== The Definitive Wii Zapper Clone (SMG or Rifle Gun Shell) Review/Preview/Embarrassment List ==

Nintendo Wii Zapper
Many of you have this and already know it sucks.  I'm sure you just wanted the bundled matoor Zelda spinoff title to make up for the loss of Tetra's Trackers.

Core Gamer Wii Blaster
One of the earlier shells available.  Shotgun style is a neat look.  No trigger extension.  Ruins the machine gun illusion for some games.  Looks awful.

Pega Combined Light Gun
Splits in 2 for gimmick pistol play and waggle accommodation.  Grip spacing looks cramped and retarded.  Doesn't hide cords at all.

Datel Wii Machine Gun
Looks serious about its SMG grip style, with decent spacing.  Doesn't hide cords.  Not suitable for waggle.

Pebble Entertainment GUN
Another serious SMG style, with decent spacing.  Has a compartment to cleanly hide the Nunchuck cord.  Not suitable for waggle.  Stupid thing lacks the V-notch site at the back of the Remote.

Gunhazard Cyber wiigun
Another serious SMG style, with decent spacing.  Cleanly hides the Nunchuck cord.  Includes textured grips.  Not suitable for waggle.  Stupid thing includes a foregrip but omits the trigger extension altogether.  (I plan to get this one for my Ghost Squading needs.  I don't need the main B-trigger since I can fire with the Nunchuck, and I want to see how it plays without the on-screen reticule, so I want a shell that includes the notch-sights.)
UPDATE: I did buy this, and I enjoy it.  I'm convinced it provides the best submachine gun experience in Ghost Squad.  Nunchuck cord and Wii Remote strap are completely hidden.  Has no problem fitting Nunchucks covered with silicon sleeves, either.

WiiMAX Wii Light Gun
Looks awesome.  Not.

CTA Digital Shot Gun
HO. LY. ****.  I fail to see how games are even playable with this one (UPDATE: not the case anymore, but the prototype is still funny and tradeshow pictures can be found on the web).
UPDATE: "Adding to the “coolness-factor” of its appearance is the aesthetic possibilities created by the inter-changeable barrel / magazine tube and stock. Take off the stock and sport the “sawed off” look ala Terminator 2 or remove the front barrel and you’ll have a compact blaster."  OK that's much better.  That makes this the official shell to use for THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD... OVERKILL?... only if the game isn't too demanding with the rate of fire.
UPDATE: I did buy this, and I enjoy it.  After some modification to the trigger's spring, it works well, tho not recommended for constant firing since it's not as responsive as a B-trigger or Z-trigger.  Most comfortable when playing with a "relaxed" rate of fire, like using the unlockable shotguns in Ghost Squad.  Aiming stability feels great thanks to the full stock you can press against your shoulder, unlike the "floating" (and tiring) submachine gun scheme.  Buttons on the sides of the barrel are used to press C/Z on the Nunchuck.  Nunchuck cord and Wii Remote strap are completely hidden.

Laser Sight Machine Gun
Ahahahahah effort.  lol

Laser Sight Special Crossbow w/ safety arrow
CHEEZUS KRAIST.  If you ever wanted to put on a red dress and play "Assignment Ada" in front of your wife, now you can.

CTA Digital Crossbow for Wii
The NEW standard in Wii lightgunbowshellthings.  Just as useless as the official Wii Zapper, but with much greater aesthetic performance.

Logic3 Wii Sports Gun
SMG shell from a UK 3rd party manufacturer.  Relatively rare product on the web compared to the countless shells pouring out of Asia.  Has an interesting look at a glance and includes full iron-sights.  Customers have reported the B-trigger is hard, lousy and makes an annoying snapping/cracking toy sound as a "featured" "sound effect".  Since the trigger is useless, it gets negative points for being there at all, taking up space.  Doesn't hide the Nunchuck cord.  Ultimately meh.

GAMEware Wii Light Gun
Another rare UK shell rejected by Her Majesty's Secret Service.  Looks like a very simple, bare-bones approach.  No iron-sights, no cord compartment, no aesthetic appeal.  The B-trigger looked interesting at first, but reviews say stiff, difficult crap.

dreamGEAR Wii Rumble Blaster
Another interesting failure.  Interesting break-apart design and aesthetics.  No iron sights.

CTA Digital SureShot
This is the latest retail revision of their previous Shot Gun shell.  The tip of the Remote barrel has been redesigned to integrate the loop sight and eliminate the old plastic ring attachment, which interfered with the Remote's line-of-sight.  IR visibility should be noticeably improved.  One of the retail packages on Amazon.com also includes a hunting game.
