Jonathan Metts ventures forth once again in hopes of stumping TYP at his own game!

Did you like this episode's game selections? Let your fellow listeners know in TalkBack! Think you've got a better choice that hasn't been used yet? Then send it my way and your request might be on the next episode of Radio Trivia: Podcast Edition!  Heck, throw in a question and specific songs if you want.  Just remember, it has to be a game found on a Nintendo system in North America (unless we say otherwise)!

Games featured in this episode:

  1. Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (3DS)
  2. Breath of Fire (SNES)
  3. 3D Out Run (3DS)
  4. Elliot Quest (Wii U)
  5. Star Fox 64 3D (3DS)

Neat, I got 3 out of 5.

I wasn't too sure about Breath of Fire but I went down the same path of logic. Never played Star Fox enough to know any of the music outside of what has been featured in Smash Bros.
I am a toxic person engaging in toxic behavior.

4 for 5. Johnny swerved me with Game 2 by using songs that are... less iconic as far as the game's sound. I've played other games in that series, and the stuff TYP used in the background during the discussion of that one sounded much more in line with the later games.

I will say that for game 4, I was thinking "Oh! I didn't know that radio trivia was now using music from people's A Link to the Past ROM hacks!" but... then I remembered watching a preview video of the game on Daan's youtube channel, and I was like, "oh yeeeah, wasn't Johnny playing that?"

Game 4's music obviously samples the game I spoilered above's distinct instrumentation in the same way that some of my favorite music folk on youtube create sample sets based on various other games... from taking stuff from later castlevania games and sampling it with SCV4 instruments, or that Mega Man X sampled version of the named monster battle theme from Xenoblade...

If you want some ideas of what I mean, specifically using the instrument style of Game 4, here are some links (hue)

Fun show, and I liked how you guys turned the tables on the hosting this time around.

Just one small point: I think Jonny said that Breath of Fire was developed by Squaresoft. From what I understand, it was instead made by Capcom, but it was localized and co-published in North America by Squaresoft. This might explain why it was so relatively uninspired!

Just wanted to correct Johnny on something, if he's still even going to see this (It's been 9 months).

You stated that Spider-Man was one of Jack Kirby's designs.  Actually, that was "Sturdy" Steve Ditko's debut super-hero design.  Stan wanted Jack to design Spider-Man, but his trademark Captain America-style physiques didn't fit what Stan was going for.  That's when Steve provided a more limber, youthful figure that became the final character.

BTW, this was my first exposure to the Outrun songs.  What a trip home that made for!
