Because it was a new system. It was just a stopgap one, give them time to work on the net one, but still new. You are stretching to find similarities.

DSi was also a stopgap one as well.  It was a new system with new specs.  Nothing was redesigned on it. How am I reaching?

That doesn't change the fact that it functioned very similar to the roll that the GBC played.  It doesn't matter what the original intention was of either system.  They filled the same roll as a stopgap and that was my point.  DSi added functionality that was not in the original DS or DSL.  GBC, while originally intended to be a new system, added minor new functionality that was not in the original GB or GBP.

Intention and reality are not always the same thing.

There is a such a thing as a DSi game.  They made games that could not be played on the DS.  There is no such thing as a DS Lite game.  A DS Lite game and a DS game are the same thing.  That's the difference.  A new platform is indicated by new software that only works on it.  Prior to the 3DS coming out, DSi games were only playable on a DSi.  So it's another system, just a REALLY lame one that had little to distinguish it.  The GBC in comparison had some essential classics made for it.

Though I don't think the name "3DS" was ever meant to mean anything other than to emphasize its 3D capabilities.

Explain why it is that even Nintendo seems to consider the GBC a revision, because they combined its sales totals with that of the GB.
