The worst model of the 3DS with a boring Mario Kart game. Damn right it should be $99.

Danshi are typically for poor Japanese people, and are incredibly small and dingy, awful places to live IMO.
More recently you may find immigrant families living there, Chinese, Philippine etc.
The rents are very cheap though, usually around 30-40,000yen compared to 70-80,000yen for a regular City apartment.

Wait, is this Life in Japan, am I on the Famicast!?

This is strange. It's based on a "Danchi"

I'll just leave that there for you.

Hello lovely Famipeople!  :cool;

Yes, I know I'm a bit quiet in this episode, I'M SORRY, mmkay? I was using my American-design fruit-based tablet computer at the time. I blame Danny.
Anyway, did you guys enjoy the episode? Even more so because Sairus wasn't on I bet?
Just kidding. Or am I....

What are you looking forward to us discussing next show?
I totally forgot to talk about the Luigi's Mansion arcade game. Next time, I promise!

It is a crime that GameCube games are not on sale on the eShop, especially now there's an official friggin controller adaptor!

Thanks for the amazing feedback!

First things first, Sairus's inaccurate Pokemon description has put him in line for immediate firing, no worries about that.

The Smash thing is interesting, because I'm happy to see SF2 played on a CRT TV, but for some reason Melee looks so bad captured on YouTube videos, maybe it's because it's a polygon based game, or maybe it's that Smash hasn't changed much in its graphic style, just its resolution, so I prefer watching Smash4 these days. Its nothing to do with the quality of play, I'm not a competitive player, Sheik and Fox dashing around on a blurry purple background exchanging short jump-kicks doesn't interest me any day of the week.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 61 - ONE CRAZY BALLOON TRIP
« on: July 29, 2015, 04:37:14 AM »

Come listen to JC, Ty, Sairus and special guest Syrenne for non stop Japan game chat.

Some said it would be impossible, nay, irresponsible to try run a Famicast without the guiding hand of Danny to keep it from bursting into flames. Luckily those people didn't speak very loudly because we did it anyway and the stream only broke once. Only once that we’ll admit to anyway.

With James now back in the host seat he regails us with tales of the much hyped Sonic and Mario Rio 2016 Olympics arcade location tests along with a brief rundown on the Nindies@Home E3 Demos. Ty and Sairus’s discussions/rants on Pokkén Tournament are supplemented by special guest Syrenne McNulty from 4 Corner Games who puts us all to shame by playing and knowing far more about Japanese Nintendo games than the rest of us, despite being based in the US. She covers the classic genres of lawyer games and underwear photography simulators all while discussing the differences and difficulties in how companies present written Japanese in their games.

Nintendo’s Japanese releases were remarkably light this week, but we still hurl some tomatoes at the Debut of Daigasso Band Brothers P’s pseudo re-release before a full rundown on this week’s sales charts. Spoiler: Xbox is not doing great.

Finally, during the horrifyingly named ‘Japanews’ section we discuss some upcoming additions to Splatoon, Nintendo’s uncanny ability to mess up Amiibo releases with apparent shortages on Happy Home Designer cards and the terrifying revelation that someone on the podcast might actually buy the game.

As previous listeners are aware, last week’s show was recorded just before, but released immediately after the unexpected passing of Satoru Iwata and so we never had the chance to touch on it. The ins and outs of Iwata-san’s life has been discussed in extreme detail over the last weeks elsewhere, but we still wanted to weigh in with a short set of comments about a man who left such a lasting impact on the face of modern gaming.

Mine showed up fine.

In my Famicast feed from a few weeks back!

"I'd like to briefly mention your very wrong use of the term Hikikomori"

Dude, that was exactly what we said it was! We don't really have time to stop and read from wikipedia during the show, so of course it was an abridged / layman's version! Believe it or not, having lived in Japan for 11 years, I've met and interacted with many types of Japanese folk

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an incredible game, easily a top ten of all time for me. I never played the Wii U version but I hear that it is one of the rare cases of a 3rd game being optimised for Wii U and then ported to the other systems in the case of the directors cut.

Yeah man, it does look good! Will be on the look out for it later this year maybe.

New iPod Touches. FINALLY.

Shame they're not in the iPhone 6 shell, but the faster processor will do just fine.

I might get one to further prolong me not getting a Smartphone!

Holy ****, Ty. if I had any sort of skills to back it or an Xbox One, I would be typing in all caps that I want to money match you in KI for all of your christmas KFC Yen because god fucking DAMNIT I nearly hit the ceiling a couple of times during this podcast. :/as it stands I am but a mere scrub who is soon to be quoted on twitter. I don't have the service personally, but i believe i need to keep it within... 128 characters? okay."I bought a Wii U in anticipation for a Yoshi game developed by Good-Feel. #FuckCatdrugs"I hope you fucking enjoy your Heihachi Pikachu bullshit and listening to Maximillian scream "LET'S GO!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA BENNY BENNY WOMBO COMBO" while you sit in your fucking closet of a home where you've mounted a TV on every wall and the ceiling. And then I hope there's a game for the NX you actually really like and it comes packaged with a line of code that turns your console into an incindiary device.

I became the saltiest person on the internet there for a minute. I could have just deleted the comment, but I figure you guys are going to get a chuckle out of it, so **** it. couldn't listen to the rest of the episode, but I hope it went well! Sorry if you guys felt you had to censor yourselves at all because of my bitching last episode.

Clex, what happened buddy? You used to be so calm and constructive in your comments/criticism! Take a chill pill brah!

However, I do admit Ty occasionally loses track of the fact Nintendo (still) makes good videogames. I will strive to remind him of this fact.

On another note, I found it a little funny that Danny admits to buying all three yarn Yoshi amiibo and then literally minutes later calls Sairus "part of the problem" for wanting to buy one pack of AC amiibo cards:
Oh ho! He's got you there Danny boy!

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I understand why the last podcast was what it was and I definitely don't expect you all to be this positive and cheery every episode (most certainly don't expect it next episode after this week's sad, sad news), but I'd be lying if I didn't say this was one of your most enjoyable episodes for me. Also, I hope Sairus sticks around; he seems like a really good fit for the show and I enjoy listening to him more and more with each passing episode.

Thanks much for the nice comments! It's comments like that that gets us pumped for the next show - much appreciated!
I told Sai (I don't think he's on these forums), and his already massive ego has been boosted further!

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What COULD (have) save(d) the Wii U?
« on: July 05, 2015, 03:29:40 AM »
I'm not going to read through all the other posts, so I apologise for repeats, but here are my 2 cents:

*Should have provided devs kits earlier
*Should have made it easy to port 360 games by providing a framework to do so
*Should have courted the 3rd parties by doing the above, but also showing how cheap it would be to develop compared to next-gen
*Should have got Minecraft signed up 2 years before WiiU launch
*Should have advertised the system as brand new, not an add-on, took them over a year to realise the confusion
*Should have streamlined the interface before launch, not 2 years after
*Should have given it a better name, a name that infers it's new, HD and different
*Should have advertised it to consumers
*Should have followed through with Nintendo TVii, and in all regions, it was a good idea but they gave up
*Should have made it region free
*Should have had the full VC library form the Wii available to launch (full conversions I mean)
*Should have priced it at $350 with a game, then brought it down to $299 with a game a year later
*Should have had MK8 at launch or soon after
*Should have scrapped or reworked NintendoLand into something worthwhile and understandable to all
*Should have launched with small Amiibo range and a game, then expanded them to Smash at a later date

I read the full story elsewhere, this is the father of the owner, a non-gamer. He's just doing what his son asked him to do, he has no idea what it is.

Thanks for the clarification guys, and like I alluded to in my first post, I do appreciate comments from long-term listeners like you guys!
Maybe we're a bit on edge here after our run-in with NeoGAF, henceforth referred to a "SplatoonGate"!
I'm sure I can work in these comments into the next show, and maybe even a bunch of bananas!  :P:

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 59 - FEDERATION FARCE
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:49:42 AM »
I listened back to the show again and I really thought we were fair in our criticisms, and balanced with the positive/negative as much as possible! We're all hyped for Mario Maker, tentatively hyped for Starfox and Yoshi, and the rest is just "meh" which is pretty much what every other podcast is saying, I really don't get the backlash here! Maybe it's just in the delivery? Who knows!

Anyway, next episode I have a huge 1st party game to talk about that I'm in love with, plus many other smaller (good) things! I got in touch with Ty and Fake or Real is ON, plus we're back on our normal agenda, so expect Japan charts (always a win for Nintendo), Fire Emblem hype, Rhythm Heaven chat, and probably little-to-no E3 talk!

Thanks for your continued listening and please understanding as always!
