The only good use of the Eyetoy
« on: September 14, 2004, 05:17:15 PM »
I believe the Eyetoy can be capable of some innovative concepts, but they have not materialized yet.  Perhaps it will take time as the gba gc connectivity feature did.  But they have less time than the latter, now that the current generation of consoles is entering it's last couple years.  Anyways, from what I've seen MLB 2005 looks like it does a commendable job with the eyetoy.  Basically it takes a photo of you and lets you map your face onto players in the game.  I imagine you could do this and make a complete team of personal people you know, or even be more creative.  Anyways, I don't think it's the first sports game to do it, but to me this is the only thing thus far I've seen that would make me think about purchasing an Eyetoy, ofcourse even then I'd wait until it was cheap <25 bucks.  Does anyone know of other sports games that let you do this, or even non sports games?  It would be pretty cool if you could do it for say... the people on the sidelines of tracks in Gran Turismo 4... you could do yourself and then driveby and think (what the hell lol that was me!).  Or you could do something like a models face providing you had a good poster of her, and have a bunch of hot chicks cheering you on, or whatever lol.  Even better would be if you could do it for the drivers too, or say villans in games, or heroes like Solid Snake.  Although most people would think that could ruin the game, but I say after you beat it, it would be a nice feature.  Anyways my rant is over.

I don't know about sports, but I remember that they were gonna do domething like this back on the N64 B4 nintendo said no. They were gonna let you put your face on the characters for Perfect Dark and you yourself in the game via GB camera. but then Columbine happend and everyone got all sensitive.  But other than that only THUG let you put your face in the game as far as I know

Ah I do remember that was supposed to be in Perfect Dark, hehe.  I was so mad when it wasn't included.  I was gonna ask if THPS games did it, something in my head reminded me of that game, I thought maybe it was gonna be in the new one, but I see now it was the last one.  Anyways, the eyetoy is better than the gb camera for doing it, too bad it never happened with PD, then we probably would've seen it happen first on Nintendo of the quality it is at now with eyetoy doing it.  Oh well.  =(

That's a good idea P666.  Does anyone have any more ideas for implementation directly for games?  I'm sure if they could do the sensors better (the ones you could put on your body) than more innovative things could be done.  By the way what ever happened with that hoverboard type game that played using the Eyetoy, was that released yet?  I wonder how it plays.

When I was at E3 2001, I remember seeing a motion-sensor setup which allowed you play fighting games via bodily movements.  It might've been TekkenTag that was being demoed at the setup.  A physical punch was supposed to yield an in-game punch, and sorta lifting your leg would yield an in-game kick.  Eventually, I saw it boiled down to retard-patty-cake.  My memory's not clear enough to say it was the Eye Toy being used.

THIS AIN'T YOUR DADDY'S TAE BO.

Is Sega including a "fighting mode" in their All Stars game release that is played with the eyetoy, it's coming out early next year i think, if not this year.  I thought I remembered their being a Virtua Fighter type eyetoy game, a bit like what you described for Tekken.  If it was back in 2001 it either was a Namco thing, or just like one of the many other setups they have like that, if it was eyetoy it could've only been prototype back in E3 2001.

The Virtua Fighter bit of Sega All-Stars is basically just a clone of the lame boxing bit that was in EyeToy: Play. You're on the left side of the screen, CPU's on the right, physically avoid its attacks, swing some dodgy punches. The end. =|

Come on now, if you played with an eyetoy putting your head on your charachters it would at some point become a porno war.

It has not happened with the titles that already incorporate the feature.
