General Chat / Badgers, Snakes, ad Mushrooms; an epic tale

Badgers, mushrooms, and snakes

Wow, this site may be the most insane thing I have ever seen in my life.  I have no idea what in gods name these guys were inspired by, but somehow I have become a tad too addicted to this thing.  Honestly, I find this more amusing then playing a lot of video games.

Just an odd little thing, I will never understand it. (That is unless someone wishes to make this into a debate about the world interaction of evolution from mushrooms to snakes to badgers /me nudges mouse)

General Gaming / Why charge for demos?
« on: October 12, 2003, 11:40:22 AM »
What I am ranting about or will rant about is how the developers are trying to make you pay for demos.  Like the idea of me prepaying for mario kart to play a demo is just stupid to me.  Why am I going to pay anything for something that is meant to be an incentive to buy the games later down the road.  This isn't what I really am bitching about, because those discs do cost money, so its not too horrible.

What I am bitching about is when a PC developer tries to give a demo exclusively to one company.  Call me cheap or lazy, but when you have many companies willing to serve as download sites, and when a lot of people want the demo, its stupid not to give it to them.  This has been going on with Call of Duty.  The first demo was absolutely mind blowing, but this did not go off without a hitch.  Infinity Ward thought it to be clever to give the demo exclusively to file front, and in the process pissed off a whole bunch of people.  A few days before the file was supposed to be launch, they figured out that pissing off customers was not the way to go, and everyone was free to download from anywhere hosting.

Alas, they did it again, and this time its exclusive to PC Gamer.  Having a friend who subscribes I got to play it, and it really is good, but I by no means think it is something that you should make exclusive.  It's a demo for christ sake, you are trying to get people to buy your game, not to piss off your customers repeatedly.  Oh well, I just hate seeing companies trying to make a selling point a selling point to something else. /end rant.

General Chat / The G5 fiasco

As I'm sure a lot of you have seen, it seems that apple has been caught cheating in the G5 benchmarks. What are your thoughts on all of this?

General Chat / RIP Icrontic
« on: May 28, 2003, 06:18:12 PM »
Well, I have been visiting www.icrontic.com for about a year and I was sad to see it go recently. Apparently Morton's server was hacked and he didn't feel like rewriting all the lost data over. Did anyone here go to this site as well, or has atleast heard of it?

General Chat / A+ Certification
« on: April 21, 2003, 02:47:14 PM »
Hey, I have been working towards getting my A+ certification and was wondering if any of you can recommend another book for me to pick up. I have been taking a few practice exams and have been getting out with 80 percent on average, but would like to improve my score. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

General Gaming / LCD or DLP?
« on: March 31, 2003, 05:37:52 PM »
Alright, I am working on setting up a Projector for a few of my uber rich buddies and I was wondering which one people prefer. I have heard that DLP provides better picture, but I have never worked with a DLP projector. If anyone could provide a link comparing the two, or give past expierences with either, it would be greatly appreciated.

NWR Feedback / Link Problems
« on: March 31, 2003, 10:21:24 AM »
When I clicked on the link to someone's website via their specs sheet, it sent me to basically www.planetgamecube.com/forums/www.nameofthatwebsite.com

Which was obviously not the correct link. Anyway that can be fixed?

While downloading movies yesterday I stumbled across this gem. Made by Darren Aronofsky, who also made Requiem for a Dream. This is an extremely low budget movie, but none the less a great movie. Anyone else seen this movie?

Nintendo Gaming / Sound Outputs
« on: March 06, 2003, 05:08:28 PM »
To bee frank, sound outputs haven't changed all that much the last few years. Coaxial and Fiber have been around for a while, and firewire has become another standard (this time for DVD-A). Can we expect to see a coaxial/optical/firewire audio outputs on next generation. Also interesting to me is what kind of audio codec will we see. Will we switch over to DTS, remain with Dolby or what? 5.1 doesn't seem out of the question to me, 6.1 is pushing it, but come on, did I spend that money for a few rare dvds? What do you guys think?

NWR Feedback / Editorials

Is there any particular reason the news bot doesn't post editorials in the Talkback section? Some rule I overlooked, or another reason perhaps?

NWR Feedback / The Majestical Ty

Where has the beloved Ty been for the last several weeks? He seems to have gone away (again) and I haven't seen any Ty worthy posts in the forums. I imed him last night so that I could have some Ty goodness, but it was late so it was a short lived high. Please tell me he has not left (again)!

General Chat / Local Band Surprise
« on: February 01, 2003, 05:26:35 PM »
Being fifteen, I don't get out to college bars hmmm ever. Last night a few of my friends convinced me that it would be a good idea, so I went along with them and have to admit I had a good time. Besides the extreme amount of smoke in the room, it was actually a lot of fun, even with snickering college guys. I have to admit, I never really was a big fan of the local scene, because most of the bands I have seen are not all that impressive. I was blown away by this band though, Bolt. This group had no vocals, but they could play so well, it was unbelievable. Oh well, anyone have some good local band expierences?
