The 360 has had a slight increase in Japan, but that's not saying much.  Microsoft's sales increase in Japan is like scoring a 12% on a test, and then retaking it and scoring a 17%.  Even though your test score has improved, it's still a huge failure, just like the 360 in Japan.

360 hardware sales are dead. 360 software sales can rely on around 80k to 200k sales at max.

Yes but a test is just a stand alone unit and there are not nearly as many.  What we are starting to see is consistent growth.  Its not sudden growth mind you but it is consistent growth.  While the PS3 on the other hand has some wild swings and is on a decrease.  Over time a consistent week to week growth in the number of units that you actually sell will equal a fairly sizeable amount for the year.  So it might only be around 177 units more each week compared to the previous week.  It all adds up.  So I would not say that the Hardware Sales are dead in the least until I start seeing at least a leveling off if not aa consistent decrease or sales levels much like the original XBox, which sold in the 3 digits per week not 4.

The XBox 360 sells about 2000 units a week. That's dead enough for me.

Maybe if Microsoft would put out more games the Japanese market actually cares about they would do quite well over there. Halo means nothing over there, so they need something else. Where is the 'Microsoft Dogs' or '360 Sports'? Microsoft has more money than just about anyone, so why can't they make good non-FPS games a reality for their system?

Microsoft flooded the market before Christmas so they could say they met their goal of 10 million shipped. That is why they also announced that they would only be shipping 500K Xbox 360's during the entire first six months of 2007.

The Wii has sold about 7.5 million copies already, and at this rate it will easily pass the Xbox 360 worldwide by the end of the year (maybe even by the end of the summer depending on how well it does in North America). It will take a little longer in North America (the only region where the 360 is still doing pretty well), but now it's just a matter of WHEN the Wii becomes #1 rather than IF.

Also, we do get monthly sales data from the NPD. So it's not just Japan that we get regular data from.

Oh, it's pretty interesting that the PS3 has been under 10K in Japan for the last couple of weeks. The PS2 has been out in Japan for over 7 years, and it has only sold less than 10K twice (both times were in November 2000 when the PS2 was suffering a wordwide shortage).

I can't speak to NexGenWars because my limited experience with them leads me to believe your accessment of them making up numbers is accurate. I do frequent the VGChartz forums and your claim of the site just making up numbers is gross inaccurate. VGChartz numbers are usually +/- 10% of the more trusted tracking firms numbers. I'd like you to explain how Ioi of VGChartz pulls weekly sales numbers for all three regions out of his ass and have them consistently mirror Media Crate and NPD numbers? I could see him getting lucky once, but several times? Extremely unlikely.

Despite my hatred for vgchartz forum, I will support the site's existence, because it gives NPD competition.  Their monopoly coupled with their slapstick methods are why our video game sales numbers suck ass in comparison to Japan's, which has THREE tracking services.

Well... to be truthful, NPD DOES just poll retailers and make educated guesses.

VG Chartz is nowhere near quotably reliable yet, but they make for an easy source of ROUGH numbers for speculation and casual discussion. I see no harm in that.

This is from the newest version of the parser.   BnM is having comp problems from what I gather so I found the data and parsed it.  I thought the bullets would make it look nicer.  All it did was make it look more bloated.  Points to anyone else who can spot the other changes.

I'm also thinking of trying to replace the count with a bar graph if BnM would like.  Just mentioning it so I can get some opinion on whether you guys want that or not.  Though I'm going to ditch the bullets before I send this off to BnM.

You mean replace the "# sold" section with bar graphs? That's a lot of visual real estate to represent 4 small numbers.

Oh, and I hope that RE4 (see #11) can keep its legs going, and that Harvest Moon has legs! They're the only two 3rd party Wii games up there right now!

Actually it comes out to be the same size even without the bullets.  The bargraphs bars are each 12 pixels high which so happens to be a little bigger then 8 point font but smaller then ten.  Probably be something everyone would have to see though I really don't see it happening because the image would have to be manually linked in so it sort of stream line things less.

Isn't that the new Harvest Moon?

No Computer problems right now, just got home late and decided to make dinner before sitting down at MY computer (it seems like its been soooo long). I don't even have the parser installed on this computer yet anyway, so if you were gonna send me a new one, now would be a good time. edit: nevermind my computer crashed again. back to using the other computer till I get it fixed.
