Link should LVLup in LOZ

I think that would be cool to see Link gain more attack power, magic, and health by attacking stronger enemies rather than hunt down pieces of hearts in the new LOZ. That would be cool to see.

It's an interesting idea, but personally, I'd like to avoid the laughable Castlevania: Symphony of the Night scenario where you're so badass that the final Dracula boss dies in less than 5 seconds.

I've thought of that idea before as well.

Although it would be cool, it would detract from the Zelda feel. It would make the game feel less like Zelda. I think more RPG elements would help though, maybe the addition of new weapons and a whole system where you might be able to forge weapons or learn magic spells.

Stop it. Stats don't contribute much to the game except for preventing speedruns and forcing you to have killed a certain number of enemies before you stand a chance to fight others. That hurts the variety of playstyles and the balancing.

I completely disagree with the idea of stats in a Zelda game.

However, if I was to play a game that had stats implemented, I would enjoy one something akin to another game that came out whose name I cannot think of right now...  Your stats increased as you played, but the monsters you battled had stats that changed based along your own individual stats - meaning that it doesn't matter how freakin' powerful you were at the final boss - he was still more powerful than you.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Stats and levels are a cop out for true skill.  Zelda is a skill based game.  You can find all the hearts you want and still not beat some bosses because you haven't figured out their pattern.  Link does level up but it's in a way that requires skill instead of just time filling battles.  Link's attack power and health depends on how well you play not how LONG you play which is what leveling up is.

I don't mind the idea of Zelda RPG as a side series like the Mario RPG games.  But I don't think we should mix the two together.  Stat based adventure games often BLOW.  They look like Zelda but are ultimately just battles again and again and the exploration and freedom and puzzles of Zelda is absent.  If anyone could pull it off it would be Nintendo but I get visions of a generic hack 'n' slash Zelda.

Stats could still work in an action rpg.

The enemy can still be made to miss you.  Even if you're just standing there Link's own instinct would cause him to evade.  The amount of damage Link's sword can do will vary with the random critical and misses in there.  Link's running speed can get faster over time but very little.  Of course you're going to need when he can gain certain abilities every now and then.

But I don't want it to go too far.  Saying incantations would be awesome but thats better for another RPG.

I don't see a problem with it.  Super Mario RPG, Super Mario 64, and Paper Mario totally broke away from sidescrolling Mario.  Plus its not like they're giving him a gun.
