Speaking of IGN & NDA's...

Quote from: IGN 12/3/2010
We have plenty to say about Smash Bros., and you'll definitely hear more about the franchise in the months to come. For now, we're curious: which of the three games is your favorite?

I remember hearing this now that you mention it, though if it were that far back, it seems more likely it'd be for the 3DS.

Though Smash is a good game if you plan to reuse character assets and want something that could branch out to tech demos.

I hope the AI are stronger. In Melee they were pretty powerful, but in Brawl I can beat a Lv.9 with Bowser. Friggin' Bowser.

And hopefully certain characters will be less powerful and godly (hello, MetaKnight!) and others will be much faster and not as heavy, with more air time (Ganon....).

If it is true a new Nintendo console will be released, the chances of a new SSB is high.  :D

The original plan for was brawl was an upgraded grafix straight port of melee with online. I'm completely expecting the new game to be just brawl 2.0 with all of melee/64 stages, costumes, and better online since that will make absolutely everyone buy it again with minimal dev cost. (Maybe with all characters getting a second final smash all being land-master tank)

That's assuming that it will be out at launch[/sakurai]

well I'm a pretty casual brawl player i don't take it very seriously like the tournament guys do so that might be why.

Probz.

I'd like someone new to take over Smash or for Nintendo to go back to the drawing board. And yes, I'm aware of the interview where Iwata stated he wanted Sakurai to be involved with the series or something along those lines. Brawl was just slower Melee. There weren't enough new ideas to keep the game fresh. Yeah, there were new (mostly pointless) techniques but it felt more like Melee+ than a new installment. I guess I'd be more forgiving if I got tons of new characters and stages. I'd still like to see Nintendo vs Everyone (3rd parties aka licensing nightmare aka fanboygasm). I don't want stickers or mini-games or an adventure mode or a story or even a single player mode if it meant the developers just focused on balancing the gameplay and loading the game with new content that really got down to what made the Smash franchise so fun (free-for-all multiplayer).

Adrock, while I respect your opinion, you and I both know you would have bought an graphical update to Melee with online being the only addition. Maybe what you would buy and what you expect is different, but who's fault is that?

Anyway, I can't see them taking the series any further. The formula is damn near perfected. Like I said before, the only thing they need to do is fix online. SSB is really the only game I think of that at a drop of a hat, I am willing to duel anyone who speaks boldly about their skills. If it's there and doesn't take any effort to setup, I'd bet cash money on myself. That's how great a game SSB's mulitplayer is. Just fix online (with a place for my paypal account ;)), Nintendo. Just fix online and all the people dissuaded, unimpressed, or even cranky will fall back in line.

Nintendo would be smart to include 16 player co-op for both online and offline multiplayer. Also, having the Super Wii better integrated with home theatre systems would make for a better experience when playing multiplayer with this game.

No. No they absolutely would not. In addition to being impossible to pull off from a networking perspective, the game just plain would not work with that many players.

How so? I am thinking of the possibilities of havng a SSB party with that many people on the screen at once. A bigger and badder game.

How could 16 players be kept on the screen at the same time? In order for that to happen they would have to be so tiny that it would be hard to tell them apart and you wouldn't get to see the action or anything.

I actually think Kytim is onto something here. Not with the idea of 16 players..that's hilariously implausible. Not with his stereo idea either, but with the notion that the Super Wii could make for a better "Multiplayer" experience.

If each player has their own screen focused on his or her character with the main screen fixed to view the entire level, that would easily solve the game's biggest problem: losing track of your character.

A novel idea, but how do you anticipate the other character's movements towards you, or frantic projectiles if you don't have the view of the entire screen?

Just my thoughts, but there are plenty of important improvements that can be made to the game without messing with the core formula that works.  I would much prefer they try to refine the franchise into something complete than attempt something too out there that messes with what makes Smash Bros. great.

Reading comprehension fail on my part.  :( Sorry.

I would still assert that having to move your eyes from controller screen to the tv back and forth would complicate what is mostly seen as a more user-friendly fighter.

Granted, that may be a common problem with Cafe games if the controller screen implementation is true.

Not sure why this would suprise anyone.  Of course there's going be another Smash Bros with the new generation but why should nintendo stop there?  Why not an 3DS version as well?  Think it's about time for it to hit the portable scene.

The sales of SSF4 3D seems to indicate to me that a portable Smash Brothers might be what the 3DS needs to give it a sales jump (and a price drop ;) ).

Something as big as Smash Bros. would really help push 3DS hardware. I'm not sure if it could be considered a killer app, but it would help a lot.

With a Mario Kart and a Mario Platformer coming out on the 3DS this fall, the 3DS future will be just fine. Because of this though, there won't be a Mario Kart or Mario Platformer ready for the Cafe until at least 2013.  This is why the next Smash Bros will more than likely be for the Cafe in 2012 because that's the system that will need it more.
