Title: In honor of today's events, are there any good POLITICAL games out there?
Post by: lolmonade on November 08, 2016, 04:03:32 PM
I sort of wonder if there are any legitimately good political games out there?  I assume most would lean towards the strategic-esque, or the cheap flash games.

Anyone know?

Ha! I was thinking about this, and came to the conclusion that while there are some good board games (see link above) I couldn't think of any good video games.

Hope everyone who was supposed to vote did, regardless of how misguided your vote might be.  ;)

There's this game called Democracy 3 on steam that looks pretty cool.

Depends how close to policy-making you want to get, but Papers, Please seems pretty excellent. Certainly well-received. You play the border guard of immigration control of a fictional state that's very picky about who gets to pass by its fortified wall and who doesn't. You gotta look out for forged documents, but also talk to a lot of people in order to keep getting paid - do you slip up or try to let someone through unauthorized?

Otherwise I think (real-time) strategy might be your best bet perhaps? Tropico has you running a "banana republic" island and negotiating with various political groups to stay in power. There's also the Civilization series which is turn-based, but those are hella deep & daunting games that make you lead an empire through hundreds of years.

Oh, i'm neck deep in CIV since CIV 2.  Just wondering if there were any games revolving around the political process itself.

Thanks everyone, I'll poke around these games.

That save-trump-from-being-assinated-game is pretty good.

I started playing Tropico 5 because it was a free PS Plus game a while back. I just don't have the time to do a deep dive into these games.
