Title: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Artimus on September 07, 2005, 05:56:47 PM
Thoughts on the new subtitle?

Make this the main thread too.

What do you want to see in the game?

Sucks, hard.

Rocks, hard.

What I want to see in this game is some gameplay, you know, actual things to do, hitting each other with nets is going to be pretty entertaining, but I don't know if i'll buy the game just for that.

I'm really not keen on it, but I don't play a subtitle...

What I want to see?  The same awesomeness of the original game times 100!

Yeah. I highly doubt I'll be able to onrine with this game. The NES games were what kept me going with the original, this better have SOMETHING. Mole Mania Game Boy game plz Nintendo.

If they can add some real mini game kind of stuff, then i won't miss the NES games.

Like how about actually having soccer, football, baseball, basketball.  Nothing deep but enough to actually interact with other people.  I am imagining simple one button to kick, throw, pitch, hit, and shoot, nothing huge at all.

Not just sports though, how about adding simple little games such as hide and seek, freeze tag, and duck duck goose........ooooooohhhhhh how about some heads up seven up! LOL I have officially returned into my 6 year old state, HAHAHA!!!!!!

What do you want to see in the game?
I want to be able to play the game between the hours of 7PM - 10PM and sporadically on the weekends and still be able to get (most) everything in the game.  I could never get into the original because of the timing issue.  Since this one will be online, it will hopefully not be as time sensitive in order to accommodate people in different time zones.

I want the objects in the game to have more use than to just leave them in my house.  Example: Pool table.  C'mon Ninty, you could throw us a tiny pool mini game in there.  Same with slots, weight benches, etc.  There's an endless array of objects to interact with beyond the simple placement mechanic.

Additionally, give us more ways to orient stuff in our house.  I hated how you couldn't really organize anything.  Let me use both shelves of a book shelf, let me put things under the table, etc.  Just more inhouse customization.

Beyond that, competitions with other players, online stat tracking (if they did allow competitions/games, etc), maybe eventually connecting multiple cities together to open up shops (more MMORPG-like, but not too much).  Perhaps some central hubs to connect to where Ninty has set up special operations/missions/etc.  Make me want to log in because there's a competition and I can win a super rare...something.  I dunno.

AC has huge potential, just needs people to back it up.

Somewhat offtopic, with the Rev, let people homebrew stuff for AC and put it online.  There's mods for endless games on computers, and I gaurantee you people WILL take the time to make something for a game if they have the tools and enough people beg for it.  Now THAT would be awesome.

the subtitle sucks but I suppose we cant get everything, at least Nintendogs didnt stick with "puppy times". So... this looks like it will be my first AC game

Holy Shiz.... When I first looked at the thread name, I thought it said "Animal Crossing: World Wide" as across the world because it was going to be online.  I thought that it was a very appropriate title for it and was wondering why people thought it sucked.  Now I realized that it says "Wild World" instead.  So, yah, it sucks but it's not that bad.

What do I want?

I want online, multiplayer NES games via Animal Crossing. If me and the guy on my town have the same game, I want to be able to play it with him/against him.

New info.

Aparently, everyone in your town shares the same house, and you travel to different towns via a strange portal instead of a train.

Personally, I don't like either of these changes. Sharing a town with another person can be annoying enough....now you don't even get a house to yourself? As for the portal thing, coupled with the town's spherical shape, it looks like Nintendo is really chipping away at any sense of realism that the first game had.

Though it is cool that K.K. gets to perform on stage.

Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 23, 2005, 08:58:22 PM
No, that's fantastic...First of all, your house can get much bigger, and now you and your roomies have to "compromise" about your decorations...It's a great idea! =D

And the first game had realism?  Ok...
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: NinGurl69 *huggles on September 23, 2005, 09:21:54 PM
Think of it this way, the game will really live up to its "Real World" style commercial from a couple years back.

OH THE DRAMA

"YOU DRANK MY JUICE!"

"YOU MOVED MY STARMAN, BEEYOTCH!"

*FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT*
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: wandering on September 23, 2005, 09:30:02 PM
Okay - I could see how sharing a house with other people could be fun - though I really hope you get some space to yourself in there.

As for the original game's realism..... sure, the game's rather, ah, ridiculous. But the game's town still FEELS like a real small town in some way.
I chalk that up to Miyamoto's involvement. Nobody else at Nintendo seems to have his appreciation for making things feel real... for adding all of the small, almost intagable touches that make the worlds Miyamoto creates feel like real places in our minds.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bill Aurion on September 24, 2005, 05:00:38 AM
I wouldn't worry about having enough space...I believe it was at E3 where it was confirmed that your house could get to "mansion proportions" (probably exaggerated, but still bigger than it could get in AC)

So what do you guys think of the password system for visitng other people's games? It makes a lot of sense but I really hope it isn't restrictive. More info in PGC's preview.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: KnowsNothing on September 30, 2005, 05:10:02 PM
The password system is certainly not the ideal way of handling buddy lists for the user, but considering that this service is free, it would be impractical for Nintendo to set up databases and servers just to hold everyone's buddy list, and it's also not an option to store it directly to the DS.  So game-by-game it is.  A very nice trade-off for free online play if you ask me
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Renny on September 30, 2005, 07:56:15 PM
So I take it there's no match-making in the game? I mean it can always be handled via games forums, so it isn't really a problem. But just to clarify.
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: wandering on October 01, 2005, 02:29:34 AM
[edit: No in-game match-making, as far as I can tell.]

I really like it. Clearly designed around only letting people you know come into your town, which I prefer, especially in a game that a lot of kids will be playing. (and in a game where, you know, people can come i and pretty much destroy your town.)

I'd find the password system annoying if you had to enter a password everytime you visited, but you don't....in fact, you don't even have to enter a password at all if you meet up with the person whom you want to be on your friends list in person.

Apparently the Japanese version will not link up with the American version of this game... Is this true?

I heard that too, and it makes sense since you will have no idea what the other player is trying to say, and Animal Crossing is a communication game.

Considering there are most likely some culture-specific events in there and such it might be hard to archieve compatibility between the japanese and US versions.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Pale on November 16, 2005, 06:13:12 AM
They have already come out and said that there aren't any more 'real' holidays in the games just for that reason.

Also, there will be no regional or worldwide link up like there is in Mario Kart... so I don't see why not being compatible with the Japanese versions is a problem unless you are one of the few that has a close friend living in Japan.

I couldn't agree more.  Nintendo WiFi is about to get a big boost and a larger on-line community.  I wonder if the Nintendo website will now add a new section for online play to their on AC newspaper -- "The Crossing Guardian"...I think that's the name.

HEY DUDES

Reporting a bit on WiFi here.  Officer Copper walks you through everything you need to do, so getting online is simple.  It seems that you can't get in or out of another town when other people are having a conversation at that very moment, but usually you can immediatley retry and get right in.

The actual online gameplay is pretty limited.  NPC villagers stay in their houses, and a couple reports say that no more than two characters can be in the same building at the same time, but I haven't tried that out.  Chatting is limited to one line at a time, means that you'll often be reading half a sentace while the player types out the second half.  You can talk from anywhere in the village and everyone can see it, but you can only see two lines at a time, and there are no chat logs, which means that you'll often miss something someone said.

You CAN buy and sell at Nook's, visit the museum (but no donating!  Yay!), and shop at the Ables' place (I don't think you can create in another town though).  You can also post on their bulletin board and stuff.  It's completely  smooth and lag free.  There have been reports of connection errors and stuff, but I haven't encountered any.

Anywho, it's pretty fun, but a little more limited than what I would have liked (although, there's only so much you'd be able to do in another town anyway...).  But there's still plenty of potential for awesome happy fun, it's just you have to be a little more creative

KN I HATE YOU!

That said, thanks for the early impressions.    What happens if one of the visitors start chopping down all your trees?  Do you have the power to boot people at any time?

When you say the animals stay in their houses, players can still go into the houses to talk to them right?

Can you trade/sell items with other players in real time when they are visiting?

I'll probably have more questions... but thanks in advance for  your answers, you lucky sonofa-...

Also:

I hope these limitations as well as the limitations in Mario Kart will bring some gamers' heads out of the clouds.  This is part of the reason Nintendo was hesitant to go online in the first place.  It is not yet possible to achieve the years-in-the-making multiplayer love Nintendo has given us in the past in the online realm.  The tech just isn't there.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: KnowsNothing on November 30, 2005, 09:51:36 AM
Pale:  Yep, you can still talk to the animals.  You can also send letters to them once you've met them Also, you DO have the power to boot out jerks.  Trading would be done by dropping/picking up items, so a quick bandit could potentially steal it, but I don't think that'll happen  I don't think you can sell anything to other people though....however, there is a Flea Market Day where you can put prices on the items in your house and have people buy them, but I'm not sure if you can do that over the Connection.  I'm leaning towards "yes."

I was in CraigIGN's town just now and I tried to trap him in a circle of holes while he was out, but he came back before I was done.  Circle-trapping could be deadly to people without shovels'

"Hey, can I borrow your shovel, I promise to give it back!"
"Okay, sure ju- wait, wah, oh no stop!"

With two other guys on your side, you could easily shovel-ambush the fourth guy before he can do anything about it!

My guide just came in yesterday along with my dongle from Nintendo's online store. The first AC game was absolutely hands down awesome, but I didn't have the guide. Now I got the guide ahead of time so that I can save myself from the stress of worrying about everything I didn't know about the game, and so I know what songs to request from K.K.

Here's hoping this game is attached to my hip for the next 3 months.

Do not fear the guide. It is little more than an extensive item/furniture/texture/character list and model preview, along with being a more indepth preview of all the game systems at work.

With a game like Animal Crossing, the best things can't be spoiled, they can only be lived.

So, this may be old news, but I wanted to make sure everyone knows.

WiFi connection data is somehow passed between games.  As soon as I fired up AC for the first time, it had all my MK connections in the wifi configuration already.

That's pretty sweet.

If I'm reading what you're saying correctly, I think it's because the Nintendo WFC Registration thing registers your particular DS.

Easy stuff, getting online.  Well, it's supposed to be.  I still have to shut down my ZoneAlarm to get online...

But yeah, MKDS and AC:WW were a little too close together.  I only just finished the last Grand Prix in MKDS last night...I'm so busy this month with other things so if I get AC:WW, that will really be cramming up my winter days with so much to do!

I know they don't have North American-based holidays anymore.  Does this mean no Christmas, er, Toy Day?  Is there anything in winter I may miss if I don't get the game soon?

I thought it was common knowledge that the WiFi settings are stored in the DS...  I gathered that when I read the WiFi Manual that came with Mario Kart...

Fishing is a lot easier if you have your sound turned up because you hear a little plunk when the bobber goes under all the way.  So just cast it out there and right when you hear the plunk hit the button (I say hit the button because it seems easier to fish with the d-pad than the stylus...especially since with the stylus you may accidently run and then scare fish away).

You should probably save a tuna for a fishing tournament (unless you have the trophy already).  It's not like Tortimer knows when you caught them, it seems like any fish at any time is eligible.
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: ShyGuy on December 19, 2005, 08:57:37 AM
I won the fishing tourney yesterday with a Tuna. Oddly, the fish database showed it at 7.5 feet (90 inches) but Tortimer said it was 82.3 inches.  I should have turned the mayor into Copper for fraud!

So... has anyone calculated the interest rate at the bank?
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: JonLeung on December 20, 2005, 08:18:44 AM
I thought it was kind if intimidating when Tortimer said that Truffles (I hate her anyway) got a tuna of 99.9 inches.  She eventually got a 102.5er but the 99.9 was more scary since it was 9s.

I think the numbers in the fish database are just averages, or typical lengths, otherwise if they were all exactly what it said, you could catch several of the largest fish and be guaranteed a trophy every time.  But as far as I can tell, you only really need one trophy...seeing as how there's no date or even the name of the champ on them.

I wasn't aware that there was interest in the bank...I don't recall it in the GameCube version.  Is there really interest now?

I remember using the "doppelganger trick" in the original game to multiply my money.  At an average of 14.5 million Bells a day, it still took me over a couple months to get to 999999999 Bells just for that stupid post office model!  I wonder how I'm going to get that amount now, short of getting a cheat device (which I don't want to).

Hey, just a quick question that I'm hoping someone can clear up.  I was asked to redo one of the animals "phrases" they say all the time and after I did she said that she would say it next time but it never happened and she always says the same old thing.  So now she's stuck saying the same thing because of this lousy glitch.  I was wondering if there is any way to change a catch phrase whenever you wanted or if it randomly lets you change their phrases when you speak to them at a later time?

1. If you don't want to cheat, grow and crapload of exotic fruit and fish a lot, and stuff. For fishing you can get a lot of big fish by scaring away all the small ones.
2. Either it's a present or a UFO, you shoot them down with the slingshot.  I have no idea about times, but seeing as I how I haven't seen one in weeks I must play at all the wrong ones.
3.  What do YOU do with a snowball on the ground in the winter?

Well, sometimes coconuts wash up, but since all of my trees DIE I don't know how much they sell for.  It was 300 in the GC game, I think, but that number could be entirely made up.  Sometimes other villagers or "mom" sends you some fruit as well, but that could take a long time...
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World

Well, I just got 800 bells for a month's time at the bank.  I'm not sure how it's compounded though.  My ending balance was roughly 120000.

Interestingly enough I didn't get any kind of note suggesting that I got 10000 bells for the new year... I'm not sure I got it unless "Mom" just wires it to your account directly and doesn't tell you.

Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bloodworth on January 07, 2006, 09:44:43 PM
Tag mode is one of those wacky things that NCL designers think is really cool, but I don't think many people will get into.  It's only in Nintendogs and Animal Crossing so far, and the basic idea is that you put your DS in tag mode, stick it in your bag and MAYBE sometime during the day you'll run across someone else with the same game in tag mode and trade info (dogs, blanca, etc.) with them.
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: IceCold on January 07, 2006, 10:22:40 PM
Well, the idea works a lot better in the more population-concentrated Japan. But I'd imagine that it would be a really nice feature for a gaming convention or something. I heard that at E3 having a DS was a blast, with Pictochat and multiplayer games and all, so this would probably work well too.
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Darkheart on January 07, 2006, 11:18:02 PM
I go to anime conventions, and the Ds is sooooooo popular there.  People talkin in pictochat up to the wazoo.  Last year it kind of sucked because most of the good games hadnt come out yet.  I will remember though that the second one I went to towards the end of the year had me and my younger brother waiting in a 3 hour waiting line to get in.  In front of us was a guy who had recently recieved jump superstars and the fact that 3 others could play without the game was beautiful.  I cant wait until this year when games like mario kart and animal crossing will out and about the convention halls.

So Sable in my town now seems quite depressed (spacing out and acting like a "total space cadet" as described by the villagers and her own sister).  A new option pops up when talking to Mable so I'm under the impression that this can be remedied... anyone else get this?

anyone's stalk market going to save me? I need to get rid of some turnips, anything above 120 will do and you can have 30 to sell for yourself.

My brother made a killing by selling them for 550 in some town after a lot of dealing on the GameFAQs boards.  Problem is, the GameFAQs Animal Crossing: Wild World board moves too fast.  When he finally had his chance Nook's was about ready to close...but for every full shipment of 15 x 100 turnips he managed to bring in, he was getting 825000!  That's, like, more than twice of the most I ever had.  For each go!  He was flooding the house with turnips so now I'm wondering how I can get into the action without making a mess of my town.

I guess I'll just have to save up a lot of money and get up before him on Sunday mornings.

Maybe a group of us should start a high turnip prices club...you want a good-sized club for that, but not too many that it becomes difficult, seeing as how you can only have a few people in your town at a time...

Anyway, I finally had Pascal visit me yesterday. Apparently honesty is not the best policy, like it was in A Link To The Past.  Pascal wouldn't give me the Golden Axe when I said I didn't know what he was talking about (since I couldn't have dropped one) but after resetting and trying again (Mr. Resetti hates me), I lied about the Golden Axe.  He knew I was lying but gave it to me anyway, because my desire was "real".  Great Faerie he's not.

Do you have to puchase from him every week, or is it buy once and it lasts forever?  I purchased last week for 3000 and now he's offering something else for 6000.

So while were on the great mysteries of ACWW....

"Bell" Trees...

Besides the golden shovel, hole, and bags of money... what's the trick to these trees?
I planted 1000 bells once and got nothing.
Friend of mine planted 6000 bells and got 3 bags of 30000 bells each.  Quite the investment.
I haven't heard any of my residents talk much about them...
1) Is there a magic amount to put in, and is there a point where burying more yields no extra benefit?
2) Does the amount affect the amount yielded?
3) I'd be able to answer this once I get one to grow of my own, but do they yield more than once?

Oh and funny thing happened to me today.  I saw a present fly over head, and in my rush to shoot it down, I didn't quite pay attention to my overall location.  Plop!  landed right in the drink (water).  You character actually emotes shock when it happens too (I think I emoted a bit of shock as well )

No idea about the first two (flowers are for girls), but the last one I think it's so when you're travelling to another town there's conveniant pitfalls right near the gate just before you head off there. Nintendo is encouraging mischief!

I have a question. (I don't feel like reading back to see if it has been answered, so be nice, and just answer please =D)

Just about every citizen in my town has tried to move out at least one so far (I think the exceptions are Alli and Punchy)  I talk to my citizens everyday and stuff, but they still try and move.  Since I am not wanting to be free and stuff I don't let them move, talk to them and mail them stuff so they stay.

My question is... if I were to let them leave, will they ever come back? or once they are gone, they are gone?

I'm pretty much getting tired of babysitting some of the citizens that I don't like, especially Cyrano who is an ass.  Alli is a snob!

What can be acheived by donating to the neighbouring town?

You get feathers you wear in your hair...And I think that's about it...

How does the cross-breeding of flowers work?

It's pretty random...I find that if I have a bunch of a certain flower right next to each other, a new color of that flower will appear right next to them after a while...(This is how I've breed a nice batch of black roses)

My question is... if I were to let them leave, will they ever come back? or once they are gone, they are gone?

Gone forever!  But a new neighbor will move in after a day or two, so it's not a big deal...

Okay, so they are gone, but what happens when you reach the end.... is there an actual end to when people stop trying to move away and then new people move in?  Or is it a forever cycle with random names and species?  I mean, you would think, at least I do, is that after a while it would have to start over again or the game just stops after a certain number of moves/move in's have occured.

Believe it or not GameFaqs has a good guide that will answer anyone's questions: http://db.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/animal_crossing_ww_c.txt

Did you know that for every shooting star that you see you can get a present the next day, for this to work is as it shoots across the screen touch your character, at least I think that's what I read about it.

I ran into this, your character strikes a wish pose if done correctly.  So, not only do you need quick reflexes, but you can't be next to anything that you can interact with.  Also, seems that you can only get one gift a night, no matter how many stars you see.  I hit about 5 stars but only received one gift the following day.  (3 of the stars flew by in less than a 2 min span!)

Update on "bell" trees:

Planted 2, 6000 bell trees.  Neither has produced anything after 1 week.  Buddy had planted several 6K trees and only got one with any cash (3 bags of 30K).  Not sure if room luck has anything to do with it.  I've heard that the amount is directly proportional to the percent chance of getting results (so 6K for 6%... up to 99K for 99%).  Does that mean it's best to bury 50K for a 50% chance to double up?  Even then 3 bags of 30K is 90K so it's not really double and it would not work to your advantage.  Maybe luck increases the payoff?

I'm having a problem with my Animal Crossing Wi-Fi if anyone can help...

I can pull up the Wi-Fi connection, locate a friend online, but every time I try to connect to that friend, I get the "86420" error.  I tried opening up the correct ports on the router, but nothing seems to work.  Mario Kart and Tony Hawk work just fine for me, though...

Do you think the fact that I bought it used has anything to do with my problem?  I did erase the prior data.

Any help would be appreciated.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bloodworth on January 24, 2006, 04:22:14 PM
That's a sporadic and very hard to understand error.  It tends to be more of troublesome when trying to play with people several time zones away, but I even had it come up with my girlfriend who was sitting right next to me at the time.  Chances are that if you're connecting to WFC, your router's not the issue.  The best thing to do is try again at a later time or try to connect to some other people.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: KnowsNothing on January 24, 2006, 04:29:34 PM
I'll have to retry this to get the error number, but a similar thing happens to me when I try to connect with one person.  It's strange, I can get into some friends' towns just find, but there's one that I never can.  I see him on the list and I try to connect, but it never works.  Same when he tries to get into my town.  The thing is, the same thing happens with MKDS.  We see each other connect and search, but we just can't make that connection to start playing.  Furthermore, we've been to each other's houses and connection via WiFi there, so we know it's not out DS's having problems communicating with each other.

My guess is that there's something up between our routers.  We're fine otherwise, but when connecting to each other it fails.  We basically have the same router as well, same company and very similar model (which I've forgotten right now =o).  Very strange indeed!

Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Dasmos on January 29, 2006, 02:48:58 PM
Go into the menu, and get out your net. The bees circle around your head in a pattern of sorts. You pretty much have to regocnise the pattern and when the seem to be further away from your face is when you strike. It's harder than the GC version and I have only been able to catch like 5 in my time.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Mario on January 29, 2006, 02:54:31 PM
I've only caught one, but that's because I don't carry my net with me anywhere. Damn Winter, there are no bugs anywhere ever.

Wait...is there a way to shake trees while holding your net?
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bloodworth on January 29, 2006, 04:23:30 PM
No, you have to jump into your menu and switch to the net.  The good thing is you can't be stung while in menu.  Then you need to press a button to switch button mode, watch the pattern as mentioned above, tap B to get out of the menu and start pressing A to hopefully get a swing in.  Still very rare that you're successful.
Title: RE:Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Dasmos on January 29, 2006, 04:34:49 PM
Ahhhh yes. Once you hear the bees you switch to the menu..
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: kirby_killer_dedede on January 29, 2006, 04:52:56 PM
That's what I've been doing.  I just got the game today, and I've had five (deliberate) encounters with bees already.  I switch to the menu, take out my net, but the second I exit the menu, I'm unable to do anything since I'm already being stung.
Title: RE: Animal Crossing: Wild World
Post by: Bloodworth on January 29, 2006, 06:41:00 PM
Yeah, that's just a matter of timing.  Sometimes I can't do anything.  Sometimes I swing and miss @_@.  And then every once in a while, I get a bee.  Just start tapping A as soon as you can.

I think you need to be in your house like 5/10 minutes before the time you told her and then wait like another 5/10 minutes still inside your house and she should show up.

So far I'm only had one resident come visit me, and it was the mouse lady (Melba)

Your probably waiting in an interactive state... such as sitting in a chair.  You have to be waiting, standing in the main room at any point when the clock reads the exact time you set earlier.  You don't have to show up early.  I've walked in at the exact min they were supposed to show up and they just show up right behind you (and litterally walk up to your face )

I was waiting once, as I was a min early, seated in a chair.  When the time came by, nothing happened.  As soon as a hopped out of my chair I got the knock at the door.

Today was Flea Market day and so here I was going into someone's house (I can't remember who) and he had a fish for sale, curiosity got over me and I "touched" it, lo and behold it was a piranha(sp?), it cost me 3200 bells I think, so here I was really happy that I got one but then when I go to check its info but there was no piranha at all to pick and read its stats. I did offer it to the museum and I confirmed that it was in the aquarium, but how come there is no info on it?

Oh btw, before that happened I had the best surprise in this game yet, I caught a flea on flea market day, lol! Even funnier is how you have to catch it, lol!

A friend of mine got the sales associate to set this up a day early, and as a result got to see what these download stations look like (A Nintendo DS).  He also got to read the information brochure for the sales associate.  There are apparently 6 items to obtain.  You obtain them by entering Tag mode.  My friend made a couple of notes.

1) The item you get appears to be completely random
2) Getting them all is actually quite labor intensive.  Buy a bottle, write a note, release into the ocean, save, TAG mode from main menu, download, enter town, scour the beach for item in a bottle.  Rinse, Repeat.
3) Releasing multiple notes into the ocean at once does nothing.

Unconfirmed is the ability for different residents to all get something via tag mode... although with the way that works I'm not sure it would save any time.

so I gave in and bought the game, I wasn't too happy with it at the beginning and it took a while, but it has grown a lot on me (unlike Nintendogs, which was the complete opposite),  but I still haven't figured out where the hell to find bugs, or how to make money faster than just selling fruit. I'm afraid the true fun of the game is its online aspect since I don't have easy access to wi-fi networks and I haven't played online even once...

Anyone playing Animal Crossing online?  I just got it yesterday and would love to come and visit your town.  Also, where do I look up my own friend code to share?  Is it different for every game or is it the same for all online games?

Oh and sorry for being such a noob.  I just got  a ds lite yesterday, which I am very happy with.  I got Mario Kart and Animal Crossing so far.

Thanks,

Christopher

My town had undoubtedly turned into a baron waste land...

old thread ressurection time!!!

so i had an idea about animal crossing. no idea if it would work...

here it is: since i now have two DS's I could put animal crossing in one, turn it on, open my gates and make it a server. if i got friend codes from people, you guys could come and go as you want (if memory serves)

my town would be like your home away from home.

this is assuming that the ds doesn't cut off after a certain amount of time with no interaction...

thoughts? anyone out there still play?

Everyone I've seen on this board seems to have moved to City Folk/Let's Go To The City for the Wii.

This game is pretty awesome. It is a lot different from the game cube game but it is still good. This is very much the kind of game you'll want to check back with daily, simply because there's always something new to check out.
