Players to receive a combination of physical and digital prizes for registering Club Nintendo codes.

For years, American gamers have patiently waited for a Club Nintendo program to call their own; a program that has provided all other regions of the world with rewards for their purchased Nintendo products. Fortunately for them, it was revealed at the Nintendo Fall Media Summit that the program will finally be starting on western shores. A recent interview with Cammie Dunaway by Wired's Game|Life has revealed some new details regarding the North American version of Club Nintendo.

Similar to Japan and Europe, a player can "get credit for purchasing games and filling out surveys," and extra points may be awarded for "buying it sooner rather than later."

In Japan, Club Nintendo has provided players with some truly fantastic prizes, such as exclusive console titles and Nintendo swag, while in Europe the same system has only provided Wii Points for stars and some other virtual goodies. Dunaway was pressed on what the system would provide North Americans to which she informed Wired, "over the first year [America] will see more physical prizes," though in the long run "it's going to be a blend of both."

Players who have been registering My Nintendo codes for years can breath a sigh of relief as they will "be able to take over some of the points [from My Nintendo]," more specifically, "some Wii and DS titles." According to Dunaway, Nintendo wants to give players the opportunity to "start off with some points" in order to begin claiming prizes immediately.

If any Nintendo rep is reading.

Zelda Ocarina of Time Master Quest = GREAT REWARD
Pack of colorful stylus = Crappy Reward

It's been a while since NOA has had great stuff. I think they missed the boat on some stuff Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Galaxy soundtracks would of been great prizes but since it was leaked on the net those prizes seem worthless now since I have all the songs I want.

I loved master quest of 00T. It was different, and fun remix of one of my favorite games I wouldn't call it better than original game but I am happy I had to play it.

I want something I can't find in Hot Topic stores. I would love a M mario hat, I want DS game that has the BS Zelda and other super rare games that never ever escaped Japan. Those Capcom Mega Man 9 boxs is something I would love to see copied by Nintendo.

I'm excited NOA is doing this, but I hope we get amazing things like Japan does.

speaking of how popular the game wasn't I felt so bad for Suda 51 when i heard that no one showed up for his toilet paper handing out gig...  I so would have loved to have gone, I wish he came to Seattle or L.A. or something...

Be careful, Europe has physical prices but it's just random nintendo-branded stuff like bags, shirts, umbrellas, etc that costs massive amounts of stars. "mostly physical goods" just sounds like they'll let you throw all your points from previously registered games at cheap merchandise before letting you use them for Wii points.

I think I have a huge backlog of games that I haven't registered.  I think I'll get on that. . .

I hope this is used to hand out real merchandise, not just as a clearinghouse for stuff that's sitting around in the Nintendo marketing department.

Now I wish I'd kept more of those "Register Your Product" inserts when I first bought my Wii (and DS). Although honestly, I don't think too many of my games are registratable. I don't think ANY of my review copies have had those inserts. It seems like only first-party games have them. RE: UC didn't, and that's a big release!

I hope everyone's looking forward to Pokemon Tshirts and Nintendogs strategy guides.

It really depends on the strategy guide.

All I want is the ability to buy Wii Points with this, it would be the perfect way to combine my habit of buying too many Nintendo games with my habit of buying too many VC and WiiWare games.

Oh, don't worry, if Europe is any indication you'll get 100 wii points for every 400 stars (50€ games are worth 250 stars, 40€ games 200 stars and I think there's a category below that) so every Wii game (published by Nintendo) gives you 62.5 free wii points, every DS game (also published by Nintendo) gives you 50 free Wii points. Perfect loyality bonus, eh?

Though there may be a delay before that system goes online and there'll be limited numbers of codes you can buy at first so expect the first few weeks to end up with the wii points being sold out.

I don't want Wii Points.

I want cool, exclusive stuff that I can't get elsewhere.

If I want to buy Wii Points, I'll go grab a pack at Wal*Mart...
