I hate the karma system. It's too anonymous and it stifles conversation. Some people, when they see something they disagree with, simply downvote and move on whereas before they'd eloquently, elegantly, and respectfully explain why they disagreed.

The more people whine and complain about the karma system, the less I want to do anything about it. If it were going to change, it would be after a long period of people not complaining about it, and it would happen at random with no warning or acknowledgement.

Hey Insano, I am over here not complaining or whining about the terrible Karma system and I haven't been not doing that for a long, long time.

So...how's that unexpected change coming?

I'm not even sure what it would entail to change it. I'd have to check with the webmaster crew. My hope is I can find a system that's even worse than the current one.

Give one random person each day the ability to give unlimited smites.

I like that idea, but let's get rid of the "random" part, and instead make it somebody I pick, or possibly have this person elected by the people to institute some form of mob rule.

I like random, because then you'd get more of that "Oh, noes... I got smited... so-and-so did it!" with no evidence of who was actually behind it...

How about a random person gets unlimited smiting ability and a voted-in person gets unlimited applauding ability?

If you get to vote for the Smiter, then everyone will just vote people in who won't abuse the ability.

The theory is once you hit 1000 posts you realize the whole system is a waste of time and ignore it completely.

Finally decided to look to see what in the world was going on with this rating system. Now i know why I can't rate other people. At least i seem to have gotten a few more +'s in the last week or so. I'm sure I'll get a few - now just for making this point known in this post, lol.

Oh well, not like it matters all that much.

Actually, it doesn't matter at all, unless you want it to.

The karma system only hold value to those that hold value in it.

But i legitimately want to know what makes me a bad poster, a like/dislike thing for each post is much more applicable vs 'oh i am now at 100 smites, what did i do wrong'
