Duck Hunt Coming to Wii U Virtual Console on Christmas Day

Unfortunately, there's no way to wrap it up and place it under the tree.

The beloved NES classic Duck Hunt is making its way to Wii U Virtual Console in North America on December 25, Nintendo has announced.

This Virtual Console release was first unveiled during last month's Nintendo Direct broadcast. Instead of using the original Nintendo's light gun, however, this Wii U digital version has been modified to work with the Wii Remote. Additionally, an on-screen reticule has been provided to simulate the gameplay of the NES title.

Will you be hopping on the Wii U eShop on Christmas day to download Duck Hunt?

Is this a Midnight release? In other words can Santa hop onto our Wii U when he comes and download it so that it's ready to go when the kids get up or do we have to wait for a specific time when the eShop is updated on Christmas day to go check it out?

Brings back memories of receiving my NES on Christmas morning way too many years ago. Finally getting it hooked up (in my bedroom no less) playing Mario until I got frustrated then switching over to Duck Hunt and playing the crap out of it. Good times. I may need to download this.

Same for me, although more time was spent on Zelda II and Tecmo Bowl that morning.

This has been on my eShop wish list since the announcement dropped.

I feel like this game might be too easy with a reticule.

It'd be way too hard without a reticle given the technological limitations of the Wii remote.

is it Wii Remote only or will it be playable with the stylus too or the Game Pad? I do have a remote but I never use it. I don't even know where it is.
Trying to be a better person, honest.

Yeah, that's the dilemma they faced. I wonder if they experimented with different methods before deciding on the reticule, like having it only appear when you shoot, if that was still too hard.

There were light gun style games on Wii that had a process of letting you calibrate it to play without a reticle, but it's not the kind of thing I'd see Nintendo doing.
