Bowser's raucous offspring will be on the starting grid when Mario Kart 8 rolls in.

Mario Kart 8 will be released for Wii U on May 30, as revealed in the latest Nintendo Direct presentation.

A brand new gameplay trailer revealed that for the first time in the series, all seven of the Koopalings, who originated in NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3, will feature as playable characters.

In addition, new vehicles and tracks were also showcased, including a number of returning retro courses from past instalments in the franchise.

I was thinking nSonic and co. to show up when Iwata mentioned unexpected characters.

The game looks good. Probably still not a day one purchase for me unless it releases in the middle of a sale.

Did they show Block Fort?
is that like a staple course for multi-player yet? I don't think I should have to ask for it, it should automatically be included in every MK game ever.

Is it just me or equalizer lines and overall style of the level felt like Jam with the Band/Daigasso Band Brother?

I was half expecting the bat from the series to show up.

Smart choice. Koopalings should have been included long ago before R.O.B. or Diddy Kong.

Now I really wish I could splice sounds from the cartoons in there. Nothing beats honking your horn and saying "I want Milli Vanilli".

That was a pretty boss trailer. I'm not a Mario Kart fan (liked Super Circuit, that's about it), but this has me thinking I'm going to pick it up.

I'm excited for the opportunity to play as Wendy O Koopa and raise a whole new generation of men's rights activists.

I'd love to see more returning characters like Birdo, Dry Bowser, Diddy, Bowser Jr., etc.

I'd also love to see Boom Boom and Pom Pom as individual characters.

"Raucous offspring"? Haven't you guys gotten the memo that the Koopalings are NOT Bowser's children?

who are they then? because I'm confused.

at first it was the Koopalings, then there was a Bowser Jr., so I wasn't sure what the relation was to the koopalings were or if we were just supposed to kinda ignore that inconsistency as an oversight.

The Koopalings being Bowsers children was something NOA made up back in the day.  In Japan, they were never considered his children, instead they were just high ranking Koopa's in Bowsers army.  So to Miyamoto, Bowser Jr has always been Bowser's only child.  It's just another case of early localization changing things that will eventually confuse overseas gamers when the original Japanese canon becomes the norm here as well.

I wonder why NOA decided to change it, it seems to make less sense with what they came up with. Or maybe it was a mistake or something.

I wonder if we'll ever see the mommy Koopa so that we can stop thinking something worse happened to create Bowser Jr....

Worse? Maybe that's how it flies in the Mushroom Kingdom. We just have to accept it!  :D

Why do you think Bowser was always trying to kidnap Peach? Bowser Jr. was on to something in Sunshine.
