Just a reminder, WiiConnect24 shuts down June 27th.
« on: June 17, 2013, 06:22:55 PM »
I'm not sure how many people here will care, but I figured I'd mention this anyway. On June 27th, the WiiConnect24 service will go offline. After this date, the only thing that will remain is actual online play; all channels and game features that used this service will no longer be usable.

The following is a list of channels that will no longer function after the shutdown:

News Channel
Forecast Channel
Nintendo Channel
Check Mii Out Channel
Everybody Votes Channel
Mario Kart Channel
Wii Message Board

The following channels will have reduced functionality:

Mii Channel - No longer able to send and receive Miis.
Wii Shop Channel - No longer able to send out gifts.

The following are the games I can think of that will lose the listed features:

Animal Crossing City Folk - No longer able to send mail to other towns.
Boom Blox - No longer able to send and receive created puzzles.
ExciteBike: World Rally - No longer able to send and receive custom tracks.
ExciteBots: Trick Racing - No longer able to send and receive replays.
Mario Kart Wii - No longer able to send and receive ghosts, view leaderboards, or play tournaments.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - No longer able to send and receive friend vouchers.
Metroid Prime Trilogy - No longer able to send and receive friend vouchers.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl - No longer able to send and receive pictures, replays, and stages.
Wii Music - No longer able to send and receive created music

Pretty sure that you can add two more to the list of reduced functionality, as sharing user-created content is no longer quite so easy:

BlastWorks: Build, Trade, Destroy
Elebits

This list shows some other games as well:

Farewell Wii Cat. Forever gone are those lazy Sunday afternoons spent aimlessly waiting for the News Channel to load, pointing to you and hearing you "talk". May you find a new place to dispense your wise information up there in Nintendo heaven. I'll miss you forever and ever. -tear-

Wii Cat confirmed for Smash?
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

And I wouldn't put it past Sakurai to do just that - we did, after all, get a stage based on Pictochat of all things...

Good call on the Wiki list ejamer. It doesn't show what the features are in the games, but it's a good place to start.

Won't be missed much, I almost never used it except for some news and weather updates.

I can't say that I used all these functions all that much but it will be a sad day to see them all switched off. Might fire them up just a few times over the next few days to give them all one last round and a farewell for the awesomeness they were.

I have Metroid trilogy but haven't gotten much time with it yet.  Do the vouchers unlock anything worthwhile that I should lose sleep over unlocking?

List of unlockables here:

The one thing I was keen on was the Screenshot Tool - but it's not clear to me how useful this is once WiiConnect24 is shut down. Apparently screenshots are sent to your Wii message board, and not the SD card. I think you can then email that save photo to yourself from the message board...but once WiiConnect24 is turned off I'm not sure that will work either.

You can always just download a save file with everything unlocked if you miss anything.

Tiger Woods 10 used real-world weather effects from
the Forecast Channel, per IGN's review.

Guess that won't happen now either.

I like the diaromas. Sort of like Smash Bros. Trophies. But there are only 6. Would have liked to have seen a few more.
