Mafia XLIX: Mafia Party II, Winner's Circle
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:38:44 AM »
"This is it! This is it!" Tumble yells excitedly. "When it all counts! Who will come up on top? Who will be the Superstar of the Mushroom kingdom?"

The game up is Twisted Systems, where the contestants must hop along twisting platforms to reach the goal on the other end. But it isn't so easy, as Bullet Bills are flying every which way.

Waluigi is out ahead, nimbly jumping from each platform, which is a breeze with his freakishly long legs. He rests on one platform for a bit and waits to turn toward the next, then just barely dodges a bullet as he leaps to it. It looks like he can't be caught... but those behind him vault ahead and surround his platform. One of them reaches down below, and pulls a screw form the platform, which causes it to plummet down to the ground, taking Waluigi with it.

*Cheater!" Waluigi yells. Waluigi, AKA Stratos the townie, was voted out!

After all the contestants meet at the podium, Tumble begins to congratulate those still alive. As he is doing so, a faint sound of music can be heard in the distance, growing louder every second. It soon sounds like it's in the room, and in a flash, an unidentified figure runs through, flashing colours of every kind, and plows through one of the contestants, then continues running, the music growing faint as he disappears. The contestant was Apdude, who was utterly destroyed by one of Bowser's goons!

With only three contestants remaining, Bowser's goons realize there is no longer a reason to conceal themselves. They group together and approach the last few, pretending to congratulate them for lasting this long. In a flash, each member makes their move all at once. Shy Guy stares Stevey in the face, then peels back his mask, revealing his true form, and Stevey is scared to death. Calculon quickly jumps behind Toruresu and wraps his arm around his head, then snaps his neck and lets him slump to the floor. Yoshi sticks out his tongue and wraps it around UncleBob, then quickly pulls it toward him and swallows him whole.

The three goons rest on the floor, and clink glasses of champagne together. Yoshi just got off the phone with Bowser, informing him of their victory, then rubs his belly. A few minutes pass, then Bowser comes stomping through the door. He looks around and is greeted by his cronies and no one else, and is stricken by utter disbelief. After realizing that his plan succeeded without a hitch, he lets out a loud roar, which slowly turns into a hearty laugh.

*Those fools will think twice before they mess with Bowser again! I'm the greatest Superstar in the universe!" He turns to look at his subjects. "And don't you forget it!"

Results

Stratos was voted out, he was a townie.
Apdude was hit, he was a townie.

Votes:
Stratos: 4
Toruresu: 1

This puts the standings at 3 Mafia and 3 townies, therefore the Mafia win Mafia XLIX!

Congratulations to our superstars!
Thatguy, AKA Yoshi the overly hungry dinosaur
ShyGuy, the, uh, Shy Guy.
Insanolord, who somehow got away with... Calculon?

All right, folks, this is my first game, so I would like some feedback on how you think it went, if you have some time. Did the game feel balanced? Was everything punctual and clear? Would you play again if I hosted another game, likely with some tweaks?

VOTE THATGUY

What did I do now?

And actually, I do owe someone an apology: Silenced, I killed you for purely political reasons.  I figured the person people would least expect me to target would be the new player to the game, so that's exactly who I targeted.  You looked like you'd be fun to play against, so stick around and join the next game, ok?

The biggest clue about me was revealed on day 3, when vudu died: I'm always on the opposite side of him.

Ugh my 3 guesses when the last day started was Insanolord,Shyguy, and Stratos. Had two of them figured out. Thats who I voted for in the poll too.
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

Oh, in the poll, the members of the mafia only voted for Stratos to win the extra roll.  We figured it would make for some compelling evidence if he won the poll without any real support behind him, thus providing evidence he had a team of mafia players behind him.  It didn't work, and stevey won anyway. Oh well.

No, that was Insanolord just missing the hit for some reason.  I'm still not sure what happened.  I knew I could take advantage of it when I saw Stratos didn't participate in the day, though, so I went ahead and started pointing fingers at him.  That was the motivation behind singling Stratos out.

Game I think could have done without a way for the Mafia to show up as townies. Maybe instead of having randomizing before the game starts have the Mafia choose one person to show up as a townie in investigations. If that person is voted out or killed the mafia can pick another member to show up like that. With this game the only way to be sure was to search the same person 2 days in a row and with the die choosing the abilitys it doesn't give the townies a chance to do that.

Finally I would most likely play if we did this again depending on if I am up to it.

Few other notes about Insanolord,Shyguy, and Thatguy. First Insanolord.
He said he was busy with life but I think that may have been a convenient cover. I don't know if Mop it up set up the hits so one person would get the hits then it it would go on to the next person but if Insanolord had a later hit than others than that would give him reason to not play that much. Another thing Insanolord was dismissive about the Bustin vote on day 2. He was very personal and yet would not really stand out that much as far as votes.

Shyguy was a great "go along guy". By this I mean he wasn't really saying much and yet he was going along what the townies were saying.

Finally thatguy he made sure he was pointing fingers at everybody but his team and yet was bringing plausible reasons for voting out a townie.Oh also thatguy usually doesn't follow what I say in Mafia games. He is a more experienced player than I.

Given the potential for crazy insane investigator rolls, there had to be some sort of protection for townies.  I only had protection from investigations one time in the game.  Essentially the idea was to investigate to learn who the mafia was, but not who the townies were, which is slightly different than normal, but feasible, given it was possible for everyone to be an investigator that very first day.

I wonder how the game would have played out if I was tied with vudu on the first day. I'd probably be alive if it was a tie and apdude switched the votes around. Still would have Dasmos in and he could vouch for me with his investigation. Oh well Hindsight is 20/20.

In any case I need to start "researching" my game and by researching I mean watching the first season again to get the different roles down.

I legitimately had midterms going on last week, but I was able to pay a lot more attention than I thought I could. I figured since I'd already made the excuse, I might as well take advantage of it.

I'm gonna vendetta you next game Apdude. I trusted you to direct me this game as I've been rather busy and you back stab me to cause us to lose the game. Insanolord can attest to that because of our PMs (though now I see they were veiled thank-yous for taking the heat off the true mafia) because I pretty much told him I had chosen to trust you completely for voting calls.

PS, I told you guys we should have gotten Thatguy out of the game sooner.

Congrats for making me lose a mafia game on my birthday :P ;)

Good job mafia, you played well.

Happy Birthday!  When I had planned my course of action for the last day, I didn't realize it was your birthday.  Otherwise, I might have aimed a little more at UncleBob instead or something.

Really, I wanted to cast doubt on apdude, though. Too bad he had that vote-changer ability the first day I'd forgotten about.

I don't like playing as mafia, I always feel bad about lying to the townies.

Thanks to Apdude who investigated me when I was on a feign innocence space. I fed all his communications to the mafia.

Also, big props to all the mafia team. This is probably the most coordinated mafia team I have ever been on. We were a well oiled killing machine!

Finally, thanks to Mop it up. This was a great mafia game, and I liked the random abilities and contests. Huzzah!

See this is why I was asking if anybody had Investigate spaces. For someone to be totally confirmed as a townie you would have to search the person 2 times in a row for confirmation of townieness.
