Zelda: WW tops 300,000 pre-orders
« on: March 04, 2003, 07:29:16 AM »
N-philes has all the info.  Zelda toped 300,000 at the begining of March, only 2 weeks after the official pre-order service started(Feb. 16).  I'd say thats mighty impressive, especially for a so-called "kiddie" game competing against 2 platforms.  Btw, was LoZ OoT pre-order record 350,000?  If so, then Wind Waker will probably break it, if not tie it.

What do u guys think?

It is highly improbable they will tie. Maybe close.

Zelda came on N64 further into its life cycle. I think WW is doing very well.

Plus, OOT was released and preorders came out right around the holidays, and that had to contribute to some of the presales it was getting.   One of the reason people preorder is so they dont have to go out and try to find it for the holidays, and the holidays are over.  WW sells about 20,000 preorders a day at this rate.  So it should come up around 400,000 to half a million when all preorders are said and done.  It should break the OOT record.  No, I guarantee that it will.

I have to say I'm impressed with WW's presale numbers.  Just a few months ago I was certain that this game would be a huge flop and more or less pronounce the death of the GC.  Thankfully, it looks like I was dead wrong!

considering the growing videogame market the possible increase over OOT isnt really that impressive
but considering the userbase of N64 then and GCN now really does make those numbers impressive

It doesn't appear to be the sales success Nintendo hoped for in Japan. But that's another comment for another thread...

Wow. It's already 300,000. Maybe it's just b/c of the free OoT game. Or maybe because of the awesome and breathtaking graphics.

Or maybe because The Legend of Zelda is the greatest series ever created.  Ever.

Wha? Well I guess youre right. It is highly improbable they wil presell the EXACT same amount, but I assume you were generalizing. I think its highly probable it will break the record. And you shouldve used my topic I already had on the topic of preorders Then you wouldve known that OOT had 325,000 preorders.

I know and I can't wait any longer.  Anyways this game will outsell Ocarina defitnately, and even with all the people who preordered already theres always those couple hundred thosand people who procrastinate and buy it the day it comes out.

Heh. Don't get your expectations too high, there. If you do that, it can ruin the game. I'm trying not to get really hyped and not have high expectations. It's better that way. Believe me. It's also better to keep away from as much media as possible.

Damn, beat again. I just read about the 560,000 number from www.ve3d.com. They don't have a link to any pess release or anything, but they are a viable site. I can't belive that it has pre-ordered that much. Retailers and e-tailers must be having the times of their lives, both good and bad, with this. Good because of all the sales, but bad because of all the organization that it takes and wishing they get enough to fulfill all those preorders right away.

Its official, The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker is the most anticipated game of all time! With almost double the preorders of the previous record setter, Ocarina of Time. Nintendo Gamecube is finally heading in the right direction. GO ZELDA!

Actually Ocarina of Time held it for a long time with 325,000, but Vice City recently beat it. But Wind Waker just broke Vice City's record before the Guiness Book even got a chance to change it lol. I guess a zelda game will always be in the Guiness book for pre-orders...(why do they even have the pre-order record in the Guiness book every year...I'd care more about other things..). Anyway the latest official number is 560,000 but it might crack 600,000 within the week...
