20 games for Revolution Launch
« on: April 08, 2006, 07:03:45 AM »
George Harrison apparently confirms to Game Informer in an interview that there will be at least 20 games out for the Revolutoin launch, and 1/3 of them will be from Nintendo. (gamefront.de confirms it..)

EDIT: Updated list

Let's try and get a list going...

- Metroid Prime 3
- New Miyamoto IP
- Red Steel
- Call of Duty 2
- Tony Hawk
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
- Spongebob Revolution
- Bob Ross Painting
- NiGHTS
- Hudson Flying game
- Pangya Golf Revolution
- Super Smash Bros (? will it make launch)
- Suda51 Grasshopper Game (launch? maybe not)
- Super Mario Something (?)
- Wario Ware (? highly likely I think)
- Madden (?)
- Tiger Woods (?)
- Rayman 4 (?)
- Unknown Sega Game
- Unknown Namco Game

I'm pretty sure there's going to be something by Sega as well. I dunno, i'm probably missing something, anyone got other guesses? It seems like it's going to be a very solid launch, with a few surprises waiting.

Camelot also had a RPG in the works now for several years. It was previously rumored to have started for the cube but moved to "Next-Gen" development quite a long time ago.

I don't think the Bob Ross game is going to be a launch title... the way the PR made it sound it was in the early planning stages. I looked up the Natsume game too, and while it might be "Behind the scenes" at E3, there's nothing about it being a launch title.

This is bad... I don't have enough money to buy 3 extra revmotes AND all these games... Ironically, the cheapest console could turn out the most expensive launch expenditure because I won't be able to resist all the games.

(Maybe I'll just buy 6 or 7 of the launch titles....dear god. I've been saving up for this baby since last year!)

Their probably including Zelda:TP, which I think they should if it has Rev functionality.  What of the rumor Penat chase baseball will show up?  What about a new game for the virtual console?  Nintendo is going to do another fantastic E3...lets just hope something good results from it because I happen to remember a GCN domination at E3 years ago

Pennant Chase would have to depend on the launch window. If it's November, they'd probably be better to wait until Q1 of 2007 and release it around the start of spring training. OTOH, if we get a launch around the world series, that might be a neat time to launch the game. Though obviously then you'd need to release a downloadable roster update in the spring.

I think it'd be a nice touch if Nintendo tried some "market disruption" in sports games by just making Pennant Chase insanely good and not trying to make a new version every single season, but just release downloadable roster updates and do a new printing of the same game every year with the new rosters too for people who don't have it yet. That'd be a major improvement in the purchase value over games like MLB 2k7 where you have to buy a new version every year or have an obsolete version that no one else is playing online.

As far as I know theres not any title specifically confirmed for launch, all that Iwata has said is that he's "pushing teams to get it near launch" for Smash Brothers online and Mario 128 and thats it. I don't expect MP3 to be launch title and even to some extend in the launch window, Id actually wouldn't mind to wait if they need time to fully explore the controller.

Well Retro helped develop the controller (weren't they the ones who suggested the nunchuck add-on?), so they should have a pretty good idea of what it's capable of.

They don't even have a REV dev kit let alone have a game ready for launch.

As for the launch itself, I'd rather have Nintendo release 3 games instead of 6 and have the remaining 3 spaced out monthly so the attention is kept on the REV and the hype and attention continue to build.

I don't like the idea of having 6 franchises released all at once.  3 or more of those titles are bound to be over shadowed and could potentially really hurt sales.

Also, if those franchises have online capabilities, the strain it would put on their servers would be enormous.

Me neither.

I think having it as a launch title would be a bad idea, considering we know that Red Steel (and possibly other FPSs) already have the FPS genre covered.

Ideally, you'd want to have as many genres covered as possible on launch but to avoid overlapping each other so as not to steal thunder.

You want platforming, racing, FPS, shooting (like top down shooters), adventure (TP?), flight, sports, fighting, RPG and maybe even a strategy game of some kind. Besides, Nintendo needs to space out the first party titles as much as possible, although I don't think it'll be as big of an issue as it was with the Cube. You can already tell that they're going to have much more 3rd party support this time around, unless Ubi's support is a bizarre anomaly and they're one of the few 3rd parties doing Rev projects.

That's a "wait and see", but I think both of them will be using similar controls in terms of aiming and shooting and that's what the general market might think. I don't want to see either MP3 or RS lose sales because both are released at the same time.

In terms of priority, a Mario title and a SSB title would be ABSOLUTELY highest for Nintendo, IMO.

That is true mantidor, but gamers may view them as being both FPS whether it is the right perception or not. Also I think it would be dumb for NIntendo to flood the market with a bunch of their 1st party killer app franchises at launch, that could hurt game sales.

Actually, I remember hearing Red Steel being described as a "first person adventure" some place...

In any case, I don't know whether to expect MP3 at launch. Normally, I wouldn't, but recently, it seems like Nintendo has been exceeding expectations a lot, so I'm kind of expecting the Rev launch to be like my wildest dreams x 100.

That's cause we just love jumping on you.

But back then, it didn't seem likely that the Rev would have as much support as it appears to be getting now.

Like I've said in other threads, Ubi isn't a developer which normally pushes the standards of gaming and tries out new ideas, but if even THEY are developing something which already promises to be new and different, I can't wait to see what the companies who typically produce the new and different games have brewing...
