That fact that Wii Sports is in there for Best Game means quite a bit.

Nice.  Didn't catch the DC release of that.  Hopefully they'll publish more games like that.

They are probably just porting the same game across all three platforms.  They couldn't get away with a port of a PS2 game on a 360 like they could a Wii.

Lots of games still being announced for the Playstation 2.  Maybe it, the Wii, and the PSP can all have the same titles pushed without having to do major graphical updates, or at least, not be criticized for lack of updating graphics, despite whether or not they can do them.
Looks like production cost is coming into play quickly.

I remember seeing Death Jr. for DS, but not at E3.  I think it was given coverage at some Fall event.

Edit:  A quick search reveals that the game was announced for the DS at E3.  However, the only coverage NWR did of it then was two screens and two pieces of artwork, if I'm not mistaken.  Since then, the only mention was on a December 20th release of the European 2007 game radar.
This is the link for the search: http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/search.cfm?text=Death+Jr
The 2005 stuff mentions Death Jr. for the PSP.

Well that sounds like no fun.

Has anyone here seen a video of that Castlevania remake?  It looks nice, but lower quality than most of New Super Mario Bros. to me, except for perhaps how bosses move.
But that's just my opinion.

A good decision.
People likely to have a bit of spare time that also talk to a lot of people who probably have a little change to spare.
Like the 100 people they gave the DS to earlier, though, each individual DS will have a limited reach.  They really need to put easy access demo units around places like doctor's offices, airports, and maybe, if they can disable all access to wireless features, on planes.

Spore on the DS seems like a good idea, just like the Sims on any platform seemed like a good idea.  Let's just hope execution is a whole lot better.

Let's see, I bought the stock in May, at a cost of 22.50 a share, including brokerage and money exchange rates, and right now, it is worth 35.75, although that isn't including those same fees as before.  Can someone say profit?

I remember there was an initial either 3:1 tie-in ratio, and news sites reporting that as low.  Then I remember when the 64 launched with only Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64.

I think Nintendo told us, in a way about shipping issues, because a lot of their earlier statements, right before launch, they made a bigger focus on getting units to stores, and not  such a big deal about producing them, compared to the 360 and PS3 launches.

You're definitely right about 3rd parties needing to push online.  The question is, is Nintendo going to let a third-party go online first?  We don't know what is going on with online right now, it could be Nintendo wants to go first to set a standard, but really, standards for online gaming have already been reached, so it shouldn't be a big deal.

BTW, ever since E3, the un-official report on GC controllers used on Wii games has been bright.  This was answered by SSB:B, when they said that it would be made for use by a Gamecube controller.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Gives Brain Age to a Hundred Americans
« on: January 23, 2007, 07:08:44 AM »
"The word" isn't what is needed.  They need to let people experience BA to get them to recognize it.  Otherwise, to everyone listening, it just seems like a game.  No even gets the opportunity, aside from people actually close to these people, to experience Brain Age.  The difference is this:  If I am joe Schmuck, driving my car, and I hear someone on the radio talking about Brain Age, I'm just gonna think, "Hey, that sounds neat.  I'll have to try that sometime."  If I am joe Schmuck, bored, waiting for my prescription, or perhaps, in a doctor's or dentist's lobby, waiting for my appointment, and there is a DS there, set-up not to be stolen, but also so you can sit down w/ it and play, I am going to think "Hey! This is neat.  I'll have to show this to Jane."  Then, when I get home, I tell Jane, she thinks it sounds intriguing from someone firsthand talking about it, and the two of us go and get a DS and Brain Age.

What is the difference?  Hearing about something from someone you don't even know has much less of an effect from trying something out.  Jane reacted positively because joe didn't have one, but really cared to show something interesting to his wife.  There is a big difference between personal and impersonal  communication, and I'm sorry, but I wouldn't listen to someone over the radio about anything that I would have to buy, unless I was already considering buying it.  Neither would joe.  Nintendo's philosophy has been "Playing is Believing" as of late, right?  They need to give the people something to believe in then, because the only place I see around that it is possible to play at is my house, my parent's house, and the local EB.

This is a good starting step in a great direction.
Nintendo is reaching a consumer with leisure money to spend, in a place where they don't have deadlines, kids to pick up from school, or a half hour lunch break.  I wonder how many people the entirety of six flags across North America takes in.  I also wonder if people will have to wait very long to play a Wii.  Anyways, this way the Wii and possibly the DS will reach perhaps thousands of people a day, without much cost from Nintendo.  This is a great target audience for Nintendo, too.  It is the people who can afford and are interested in exciting forms of fun.  They need to be careful, though, as you'd probably want to avoid a  game like Brain Age here.  Nintendo should put arcade-ish games in these stations, like Wii sports or perhaps even Elebits if they can.  And maybe showcase the VC, too, since everyone knows Sonic and Mario.  This probably isn't the place for Red Steel or Zelda.  Other games that would work well are Excite Truck, possibly Trauma Center (Though that depends on the area set-up), and even Rayman, in the plunger gun modes, especially.
This could give Nintendo a considerable boost if they play it right, and no market analyst would even understand where it would have come from.

Now, if Nintendo wants Brain Age to appeal to an audience, they'll have to try this somewhere else, where the target people also have leisure time, but aren't looking for the same type of excitement as an amusement park gives.  I really thik they need to consider placing them in the waiting room of doctor's offices or at pharmacies personally.  That's just me, though.

*sigh*

Disregarding what is above, Nintendo has to actually do something different to let people know about BA.  No one is going to know about this outside of the gaming community and the immediate family and friends of these random 100 people.  They have to get the game to a place where everyone can enjoy it for a try.  A place like a supermarket or a pharmacy, maybe a bank as people wait in a queue.  I think that could break a real difference through to non-gamers, not just the ones who are related to people like us, but to random ones.  People who don't "do" computers or touch fancy phones.  Other people, too.  The ones who are "too busy" for games, but know the ins and outs of their cell phones.  Right know, Nintendo doesn't reach these people, but if they could, that is what would make the real difference.

TalkBack / RE: GameStop Acquires Rhino Video Games
« on: January 07, 2007, 07:29:33 AM »
Ug.  This was the last good game retailer that existed.  Rhino would start in towns that don't have a major outlet to buy games besides maybe a wal-mart.  They only hire people that actually know about games, and they based their opinions on what they knew, and were usually very unbiased toward sales.  The employees didn't have a quota of things to sell, and their performance was based on what their managers saw.  They sell games for every major platform starting from the NES, and some stores even have Saturn games.  They don't carry the any atari systems or games though, but it is a great place to get your fix on SNES, NES, GB, or Genesis games, which contradicts with GameStop's current policy of trying to go only one generation back, or two if there was a recent console release.  They will give good gaming advice, and so far in all my experience with them, they haven't biased any of their opinions.  They try to match up what games and systems are right for their customers.  They weren't affiliated with any one gaming magazine, and didn't hardly stock any in stores.  Heck, they don't even have a dedicated pre-order system.  They might have 50-100 total games available for pre-order, and never ask you about them, only having a sign saying you could pre-order certain games.  Despite the number of older games they have in-store, there is a ton of walking room, in contrast to the EB's and GS's I've been in.  I just hope that they keep this chain the same, and don't adjust things from what they were.
