Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last movie you've seen

As if I wasn't already HYPED to see this, I just hope that every other studio takes notes of the MCU when they attempt their own Cinematic Universes.

Create something that is fun to watch, respects the source material, is coherent in it's storytelling, develops the characters, and actually has a plotted path along the long form story telling you are attempting to achieve.

and this isn't directed at just WB/DC but also Universal w/ their upcoming Cinematic Monster Movieverse. You don't have to do it like Marvel, just follow the outline above, and I'm sure you'll find your audience.

but back to Civil War.... 3 fucking weeks.... spoliers are gonna be hard to avoid when I can't stop reading peoples impressions all over the internet.

One question Shinji, and no spoilers please.
How relevant was the post credit scene to a potential future moment or movie?
actually, don't answer that... I don't need to know anymore about this movie than I already do.

It's relevant to a future movie but maybe not for the universe itself.

Got into the Civil War early screening.
Captain America: Civil War is the best realization of characters to the screen since the Dark Knight or the Avengers. It's also a contender for best Comic book movie of all time and a shoo in for movie of the year. The film has a ton of spectacle, but still finds time to slow down the pace even amidst action to give small character moments and have the cast play off each other. The thing is through the pessimistic and malevolent tones that comes with a superhero War, the movie is able to find spots of hope and enjoyment throughout, by small and sometime large doses of humor to contrast the seriousness of the situation, with out undermining the ongoing conflict. Newcomers Spider-man and Black Panther are given the respect they serve and have full character arcs that firmly establish them in the MCU while taking a direct inspiration from the pages of the 616. Other characters are given ample time and you see an evolution from where we last saw them in previous movies in the universe. Despite this all star cast this is firmly a Captain America film and Steve Rogers is at the heart and soul of not only the film, but the Superhuman community. If I had to give the movie a rating it's a pure 5/5

That's not a bad thing, while crossovers are cool, I don't really need to see Iron Man and Daredevil team up as it just makes the universe a bit smaller. Like the defenders wheelhouse are drug dealer, evil corporations, and ninjas, not end of the world material.

I was actually surprised about no Daredevil in Jessica Jones, I remember set pics leaked that showed that the end of JJ production and the pre production for Daredevil filmed at the same place at the same day. Thinking about it could of just been the hospital part with Punisher.

Shame about no major crossovers but if the series equals a movie it could be.
Daredevil season 1 = Iron Man
Jessica Jones = The Incredible Hulk
Daredevil season 2 = Iron Man 2

Shattered Empire was cool, Luke was pretty powerful but something felt off with his voice, havent watched Jedi in a while but Luke's felt off from what I remember of New Hope and Empire. I liked issue 3 a lot more myself.

Movies & TV / Re: Wait...Why is she "Princess" Leia?
« on: October 25, 2015, 11:43:02 AM »
Princess Leia doesn't refer to Padme (though it still does funnily enough), but the Alderaan is a Monarchy governed by a queen like Naboo. Bail Represented the planet in the Republic/Galatic Senate, but his wife rulled the planet as shown in the princess Leia comic book.

For the non canon actal explanation, Leia was a princess because it was left over from the original The Star Wars/ adventures of Starkiller drafts. In fact Leia was never supposed to be Luke's sister even toward Jedi. Luke always had a sister but originally that was supposed to be a story told after Return.

Well even in the prequel era when there was a ton of Jedi one would rarley see them. By the end of the Clone Wars when order 66 happened there were fewer than 1000 Jedi left.

That said we never really see the galaxy forget about the Jedi. We look through the films through the perspective of Luke who's been living in the sticks and has purposlly been left in the dark. Han Solo thinks its bull but knows what they were to some degree, and Leia knew first hand from her father.

The Jedi were smeared by Palpatine and most of the imoerals basically wouldn't talk of them but in insults.

As for the TFA The new post Jedi books do make it known that Luke is known as being the Last Jedi/Force User and the Republic's Golden Boy. 30 years later in the Weapon of the Jedi book he's described as being legendary and no one expect those in the know, knew what went down on Endor.

Yep, I've looked at the major spoilers but that trailer was refreshing vauge. The Avengers Age of Ultron and Man of Steel trailers were the worst offenders for explaining the whole plot.

Daredevil season 2 production art by Joe Quesada. I'm hoping this means we get a brighter red for Matt's costume.

That BlackBerry phone looks like a nice desgin circa 2007. No one gives a **** about physcial keyboards anymore sadley.

Also I wouldnt call removing SD cards a race to bottom when only flagship devices are getting rid of them and its mostly just to get phones thinner and do you can subscribe to apple, Google, and Microsoft's various music and cloud storage devices.

The ecosystem is the main reason I want to switch and wished I grabbed the 6+ this past may. I want an ecosystem where everything just works and it seems that Google and Microsoft just aren't interested in proper Desktop, Mobile, and Tablet support.

We should have another upgrade on my family's plan next September so I'll def upgrade to the 7.

As for innovation Isnt 3D touch just a variant of the force sltouch stuff on Macbooks.

I do like stuff like Siri and Google Now but more for the mini Personal assistant and location textual items and not the voice features.

IPad Pro is such a weird half step product and seems at odds with its own marketing and niche.

Wait they made Gordon a dirty cop?

No, Nope, absolutely not...I didn't watch this show but it is dead to me.  Gordon should never be a dirty cop or tempted in anyway.  To me Gordon HAS to be the cop that can never be bought, never compromise even if it means losing the things he loves.  He has to be a rock on the side of the law.  That is what makes his character interesting in Batman...he is on the same side as Batman but works completely within the law.  Also, it means you can let the rest of Gotham Police Department be corrupt and still have one good cop.

This show should have done a time jump of 3-4 years after the first season.  It would have been a better choice for story...but not better for actors.

Umm In the new 52 run Gordan gets his famous trench coat from a dirty shake up. Also while not dirty dude cheated on his wife with essex, and I recall he made some shady stuff during no mans land.

Rewatching  Agents of Shield with my girlfriend, and J noticed Simmons seem to have a thing for black guys.

Can't wait for shield to start up next week, hoping Deathlok is a much more recurring role this season and a 3.0 update similar to that of the comics. (He can hid all the hardware in the current run).

The point is Spiderman when facing normal non meta humans should have a huge advantage.  Depending on how powerful they make is spider sense Black Widow and Hawkeye should not be able to touch him, unless they use trick arrows or explosives.

He can and has dodged bullet with his Spider Sense.  He is faster and stronger than a normal human...the Marvel pages say he has the strength of at least 10 men...I think that would put him close to Captain America Strength.  His Webs if he lands a shot will disable a hand or arm from the stickiness...and we are assuming that this Spiderman will be inexperienced...what if this happens a few years after Spiderman has been on the scene...and the Spiderman movie takes place earlier...they could easily show Peter Parker watching the events of earlier events while being Spiderman establishing as being active longer than we expect...and this movie he had already been spiderman for a year or two.

Spiderman to me was/is not a well trained fighter...he isn't Dare Devil or Batman or Captain America...he never had to be, because of his abilities...I can almost promise you, he will be presented as a very capable fighter and beat some of the Avengers, so that they can establish him as a serious character in the universe.

I figure between the quick wit and the quick thwips, he should be able to keep a double or even triple team of BW, HE & Falcon off balance and surprisingly frustrated without really breaking a sweat, inexperienced or not. He's just faster, way more agile, stronger, has a 6th sense and webbing at his disposal. Not saying they wouldn't eventually catch him with a stinger, but Spidey would almost embarrass them till they got that lucky shot in. and it would probably only be because he wasn't actually trying to hurt anyone, just being defensive.

This I can get behind!

New rumors, possible spoilers ahead!

http://comicbook.com/2015/08/07/rumor-captain-america-civil-war-team-sides-revealed/

I guess I should spoiler my response.

Team Cap

Hawkeye - This makes sense Ultron establishes full well that he has a secret identity and something to lose. He would join cap to protect his family.

Falcon - He's Steve's right hand man and 2nd best friend so of course he's team cap.

Scarlet Witch - She has a deep loathing for Tony Stark and her pre cog powers would probably show her that the SHA is a bad idea.

Ant-man - I find Scott to be the most interesting, as Hank dislikes Stark and the Government having control over all these powers, Scott would see the chance to register as going Legit and I could see Cassie's mom and step dad pushing him to do so.

Warmachine - He's not only Tony's best friend but he bleeds Military and even pre- Ultron he's probably the type who would want super people accountable.

The Vision - I'm honestly surprised I'd thought he'd say i'm out until the issue is resolved.

Spider-man - Really not sure what causes him to team Iron Man without giving up his Identity,

Black Widow - A spy for cap, but also realizes that once the fight is over she can try at a normal life.

I'm hoping that Agents of Shield has a lot of lead up and a big tie in too civil war. I have my fingers crossed we get a Daredevil Cameo and other non inhuman heroes. Plus more Dethlok.

20
Spider-man vs any of the uber trained humans would probably be similar to the Ant-man vs Falcon fight where he wins based mostly on his powers.

21
I assumed that the Wasp not being shown was intentional as a future sequel would venture in the Microverse or be delt with in Doctor Strange.

Overall I thought that Ant-man was a great way to end Phase II of the MCU, while Ultron did end with three new Heroes and a new Status Quo for the Avengers. But the more personal stories like Ant-man and Daredevil push the universe forward for me as we start to see all these guys with powers and skills start to pop up more and more.

Speaking of which anyone else find it a bit odd how Silent Jessica Jones has been with only a few months before its being released. Also while its probably a next year show but I though we'd hear more rumors at the very least about the John Ridley's untitled ABC project.

The Ant-man hype was real.

My new top 5

Winter Solider
Ant-man
Avengers
First Avenger
Guardians

Nope, I say it because they are making series that are dark for no reason except to be different.  They are not looking at the character and seeing who the character is and what the character is about, and THEN making the movie.

Superman is not a dark character...he shouldn't be in a dark, overly serious movie.  It should be lighter than Batman, except that is not what we got with Man of Steel.  Your examples were ALL Batman films, which should be dark.  However, you ignore that the first great Super Hero movie Richard Donner's Superman wasn't dark at all.

Justice League just looks to be pushing all the DC characters into the drab serious world.  It doesn't have to be that way...create some contrast, so people understand the different characters.

The CW did it right with The Flash.  They allowed for a fun popcorn series to be created.  Sure it has its moments of serious threat, but Barry Allen is light, and playful.  Yet he still hangs out with The Arrow...who is still a darker character.

Marvel looked at the characters, and asked the important questions...who is this character?  What are his/her stories about, and then crafted their movie.  So Captain America is an adventure series, but it is also rooted heavily in the Spy genre and conspiracy genre.  We have Heist movie with Ant Man.  Iron Man perhaps played it more straight for a Super Hero story, but it still focused on corporations and legacies...dealing with a broken man getting a second chance in life.

Isn't your last line exactly the same for Ant-man though. Honestly I liked Man of Steel and just like Ant-man is a Heist film I view it mostly as a first contact film. Also filter and neck snap aside Man of Steel isn't that grim of a film. Plus I really like the fact that they're leaning into the real life reactions and consequences of two aliens using a US city as their battleground.

I was reading the new EW and is anyone else surprised that the Last Hunger games movie is finally coming out. It seems that series has been going for a pretty long time now.

Nope, just nope.  They are going to ruin this...and Marvel and Disney will be running to the bank laughing...at WB's foolish decisions on making the universe dark and not fun.

I have been re-watching the Justice League Animated Series, the Superman Animated series, and the Batman series.  I have to say animation is the way to do these films.  Get really good writers and hire really blockbuster Hollywood voice actors, and make great animated movies.  You can do whatever you want, because Budget will not be an issue...just bring in enough talent to make every fight great.

You say that like they're mutually exclusive Burton's Batman films were Dark films yet had a lot of fun to them. Also the Nolan films were pretty dark and still did gangbusters. I'm not sure why DC has to approach things exactly like Marvel has I like that the DC and Fox Movie slates are a bit more realistic and really this no fun stuff is bullshit consdeering we have Lord/Miller on the flash, Justin Lin doing Aquaman, and Shazam is being approach as a family friendly film.

I like Gadot's look so far as Wonder Woman myself and she reminds me a lot of cliff chaings version of the character.
