Nintendo Gaming / Re: Indies for the Switch!
« on: March 05, 2017, 08:52:50 AM »
I can't imagine Yooka-Laylee will be too far behind the PC/PS4/XBX release. The game is made with Unity and it all comes down to how compatible unity is with Switch at the present time.

The indie scene on the switch is pretty big in my opinion. Being able to play these games on the go is great, I just hope they can get some of Telltales titles too.

Edit: Also, I really hope Nintendo push the virtual console much more from now on. The concept they introduced back on the Wii with not just Nintendo, but other consoles too is a brilliant one, but it's yet to really happen sadly.

Been playing some older games lately and having a blast.

Dreamcast:

Power Stone - still great and a real shame we haven't seen more of this series
Silent Scope - arcade fun
Sonic Adventure 2 - Still a fun game to play around with. I actually completed the whole story again. The story is tosh, but I enjoyed the gameplay for the most part. Think a lot of people just jumped on the Sonic franchise because...well, some people are sad like that.

Shenmue 1/2 - itching to play the third later this or (most likely) next year.

Wii:

Nights - awful script and voice acting, but a fun game.
Ghost Squad - brilliant on rail shooter

If any of you wanted to pick up a certain wii game, now is the time. People are still trying to get rid of them all and they're going cheap. It won't be long however till they start getting more expensive.

I'm fine with motion controls actually. They don't work well with every game of course, but I'm fine with them as a concept. I quite like the OS on Switch. It's simple and clean. No messing around in menu after menu to find hidden stuff like the Xbox one which in my opinion, has the worst this gen.

I'm not happy about not enjoying Zelda that much, but it is what it is.

It's best to wait and see what they actually offer I think. I'm not a online gamer, so either way I won't be getting it, but it'll be interesting to see how they do this.

I mean, asking x amount a month when their output tends to be quite sparse or non-online is kind of a hard sale I think. Beyond Smash, Splatoon, MK, what else do they have that actually requires online?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Forum Snap Poll: How Sold Are You on the Switch?

I get the feeling the Switch will enjoy a little bit of fun on release, but once the honeymoon period is over the drawbacks will start to sink in and Nintendo will be back where they started with the Wii u. It'll probably get a bit more success, but not much.

It honestly feels like there's two teams at Nintendo behind everything they do. One has their heads glued on correctly, the other still thinks the casual market are still with them so insanity must occur.

This is probably going to be my least liked 3D Zelda game since Twilght sadly. Just like TP, this game's image quailty is horrendus as everything has this weird washed out look about it. There's clearly an amazing colour pallette there, but whatever funky workings they've got going on in this is presenting it as a mess.

As for the game...

Like a lot of open world games, this feels bloated and the majority of exploration just a meaningless time sink that not only offers little to actually do, but little reason to do it. I'd take a smaller more content filled world in any game than a pointless bloated one.

The controls aren't quite up to Nintendo's past works and the new additions are just okay. The puzzle like elements for the additions are pretty good mind. The story is okay, but it might just be me, but I'm not a fan of VA in Zelda. It just doesn't feel right.

I'd give this a 6/10 so far.

I didn't say that. They shouldn't of showed it. It's not just beyond 6 months away, it's not even 2 years away at that stage.

I seriously doubt it would be a hit. I own a Wii u, and I'm still not interested in the pad. I bought the console for the games and that's exactly what people want. Not Nintendo's strange use of the word "innovation" as a selling point.

I really hope their next console just uses a standard game pad.

Oh, and if Miyamoto does use those things in Starfox. I'll be the first to introduce him to my middle finger.

For Project Giant Robot, the slow clunky and horrible control scheme, the "combat" is dull and tedious and lacks any sort of enjoyment. The idea itself is nothing creative. It's basically a really poorly made Giant robot fight.

As for the defence game. It's the most basic of all tower defence sort of games as they come that lacked any sort of creativity or originality.

Just to add, the treehouse was great, but those 2 project games Miyamoto showed were just embarrassingly bad. They really shouldn't of shown that and I can't believe the NWR crew defended it on their podcast.

Mario Kart 8

Meh, already traded it in. Lacks sense of speed, unimaginative and creative tracks, the same unbalanced weapons and dodgy AI at 150cc. I'm sticking with Sega All-stars Racing Transformed.

Sonic Lost Worlds

Apart from the odd parts here and there, I've really enjoyed this. The controls work well and the switch between the precise platforming and running mechanic was done well. I'm not a fan of the whole Mario Galaxy style of levels, but the games still fun :)

I can see where you're coming from on the gameplay point. This could of easily have been made into a more of a investigation for you (the player) as you looked for evidence and connections. There was even a few moments where it felt like you should of been given more freedom to solve Bigby's current challenge yourself.

Having said that though, I still really enjoyed it. I don't think the plot was bad or had any real issues. It was pretty well planned out and hit different issues within' that world well. As for the choices, yeah. It was the same in TWD and Mass effect, so it was no suprise nor was I bothered about it. As for the tone, I haven't read the comics yet, but others I know that have are happy with the game too.

Crane had ran off to Paris. Apparently, he gets what's coming to him in the comic anyway. As for Nerissa, it's left open to interpretation. When she walks away and says "you're not as bad as everyone thinks" Bigby starts remembering that's exactly what Faith said to him in episode 1. Bigby then remembers other incidents where she's acted or spoke just like Faith and it leaves us thinking, who is she?

She's either Faith glamoured as Nerissa and Nerissa died on the first night (remember, the girls sometimes covered for each other) or The Faith we met at the start was actually Nerissa trying to get Bigby to pay attention to what has happened. It kinda makes more sense for Nerissa to be Faith in disguise. Faith's Fable story had her as the "master of disguise" and she felt bad that Nerissa was killed for her mistakes while glamoured to look like Faith.

The other Telltale games did, so I'd imagine so.

I don't think Nintendo did amazing, but I do think they made a giant step in the right direction. If more of these titles were coming out this year, they would of stole the show in my opinion. What they did do though was show some great games for the Wii u that I have no doubt will help sales either soon or next year.

The games they showed convinced me to get a Wii u despite not liking the gamepad for example, and even though I know it's probably going to have a short life, I'm quite happy with the amount of games coming to it. I'll basically get my money's worth.

Anyone here finished it?

I've just completed the final episode and I really hope they start a season 2. The way the story ties up while weaving the other issues effecting fable town into the plot was done well. The characters and setting has been superbly done throughout this series and I hope we see a S2 after Tales of borderlands and Game of thrones.

Having now played the game a fair bit, I don't think it's that good. The tracks are fun and the controls are fine, but that's about it. The transformations seem pretty pointless and badly implemented, while the weapons are still unbalanced to the point of breaking the flow of the game. I've lost count how many times I've ended up losing a race due to constantly getting attacked resulting in me unable to build any real competitive pace before crossing the finish line. I'm finding I'm having (and had) more fun playing Sega all stars racing transformed personally.

I can't see Wii u getting much support. Both the PS4 and next Xbox will be roughly the same in terms of architect, meaning in order to build for the Wii u companies will need a seperate team. This is the risk of releasing a console without looking at the market and launching so earlier.

Seemed pointless to me. They could of at least hinted towards something good coming for E3.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U to miss out on 15 EA Games
« on: May 09, 2013, 12:12:51 PM »
EA is having a tough time. The official worst company in America laid off 900 people and are canceling 2013 games like Tiger Woods and NBA Live. The Deadspace franchise is also in a dead space, and they are not publishing another Crysis. They are also canceling there Sims and SimCity facebook games.

EA is cancelling anything that doesn't have a huge profit and not bringing their games to any platform were they won't have a chance to make a huge profit.

This is what happens when you don't cultivate your product line.

While I agree with everything you said, I do wonder what Nintendo do to try and prevent this kind of 3rd party avoidance. I mean, another one has come out and said this now: http://pixelenemy.com/just-cause-devs-wii-u-dev-kits-collecting-dust-no-plans-to-develop-for-the-console/

At E3, when the Wii U was first shown, they stuck a video on with loads of companies praising the console. Some even announced games. Then, it all went quiet. I seem to remember some developers were claiming Nintendo had changed the hardware specs since they last met. Maybe they changed it too much and devs just couldn't or didn't want to work with it or something...

If this is going to happen again, one thing Nintendo must do I feel is invest. If they're not going to get the support, they need to keep pumping out the their own games. With the amount of money they made on the Wii, they should of at least invested some of it on new studios.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii U to miss out on 15 EA Games

Another kick in the gut for the Wii U. It's only EA so I'm not too bothered, but it says they couldn't get the FB3 working on the Wii U. Makes me wonder if anyone else is having trouble...little worrying.

Even if the Wii U fails to do anything, Nintendo are a very rich company. They could afford it. They'd probably end moving Iwata on mind. And on the whole, it could be a huge wake up call for the company.
The biggest problem I actually think Nintendo have is lack of investment on developers.
Rare for example were a great company that would take some of the weight off the Nintendo teams when they were busy making the next Mario, Zelda and Starfox? (hehehe) and so on. Retro were a great company to acquire, but I think more is needed.

VC will most likely not boost the WiiU sales for two reasons:

1. "The market" does not care for old games, it cares for new games.

2. Those who are interested in these games are most likely people who already own a WiiU anyway.

While VC is a nice gesture, and I for one do like it to some extent (mainly because unlike with Sony, we Europeans get to see some stuff we did not before), it is not a selling point for the general public.

I agree. VC can be great, but it's not enough to make it a huge selling point.

I never knew or heard of anyone who thought the 3DS was a new DS. My point is, Nintendo did themselves no favours calling it the Wii U.

Gotta love forums. I get a minus for stating the obvious. Ah well, fanboys clearly.
