Round 3 of Famicom-Mini for Japan
« on: July 07, 2004, 07:10:54 AM »
Including everyone's pal, Pit!

Nintendo has announced the lineup for the 3rd series of Famicom Mini GBA games for the Japanese market. Unlike the first two series, this one features quite a large number of titles specific to Japan. Here is a rundown of the games in volume 3.

  • No. 21: Super Mario Bros. 2
  • No. 22: Nazo no Murasame
  • No. 23: Metroid
  • No. 24: Palthena's Mirror (Kid Icarus)
  • No. 25: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
  • No. 26: Shin Onigashima
  • No. 27: Famicom Tantei Kurabu: Kieta Koukeisha
  • No. 28: Famicom Tantei Kurabu II: Ushiro ni Tatsu Shoujo
  • No. 29: Akumajou Dracula (Castlevania)
  • No. 30: SD Gundam World: Gachapon Senshi Scramble Wars

If you're wondering, The Famicom Tantei Kurabu games are the Famicom Detective Club Series. Shin Onigashima is a game based on a classic Japanese folk tale.

I assume Super Mario Bros 2 is the Japanese Mario 2 (The Lost Levels) correct?

It's nice to get Kid Icarus but this is still a huge ripoff.  Why buy Metroid when you can get Metroid Zero Mission that comes with Metroid plus a kick ass new game?  As cool as portable versions of the NES Zeldas are they should be on the same cartridge.  Same with the Super Mario Bros games.  Castlevania?  They should put all three Castelvanias plus Super Castlevania IV and Castlevania Bloodlines on the same cartridge.  I'm pretty sure there's enough space for that.

I so want Kid Icarus and AoL...And maybe Lost Levels too, just in case I don't feel like turning on my SNES...

It is indeed the super-tough Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 2, as the screenshots on the Famicom Mini page reveals. However, I'm more interested in knowing if the Metroid port has the original Famicom Disk System soundtrack or the US soundtrack (Which had some instruments stripped from each song since the carts were smaller than the FDS disks), since it was the US versions of the songs that popped up in all releases of the other Metroid games.
Stuff.

Hm, the trophy of that detective club main character (Ayumi, wasn't it?) in SSBM taught me that Nintendo DID make games involving anime schoolgirls in sailor-style school uniforms... Hm, I wish they'd resume that practice .

What's Nazo no Murasame? A game about Nazis?

Haha, no...I think it's an action/adventure title, and that it's translation is "Riddle of Murasame"...But that's about it... :\

I wish Ninty would release those titles here since we never got a chance for them...

Oh, cool. Castlevania. That and Lost Levels are the only two I'd even think about getting. Think.

I sooooo want a Valis remake/revival series/compilation. But I know that if they ever did make one, it obviously wouldn't be available on Nintendo's console (and yes, I know that Valis 4 was available on the SNES).
Poor people should eat wheat!
I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

I AM WORKING ON IT, PUSHING ME JUST RESULTS IN BUGGY GAMES! (Only the last bit is true as evidenced by our 72h competition entry with a game killing bug that was partially my fault, I haven't decided to put in sailor uniforms in my personal project. Yet.)

I wish they would bring Star Soldier here, I want some vert-scrolling goodness! Hell, the Star Soldier level is my favourite in TV World Fighters.

It's absolutely killing me that nobody has mentioned this yet, and the main article doesn't say it either, when it should.

The reason that a lot of these games turn out to be titles specific to Japan is because this Famicom Mini Series release (3) is based on Famicom Disk System. FDS never came out in the United States, so it figures that a lot of the games aren't going to be ones that ever came here.

Woohoo! Kid Icarus is finally getting some love.

I know it's next to impossible, but I'm still hoping Nintendo adds Mother 1 to the classic NES line-up.

Even closer to impossible, since "Mother 1 + 2" was recently released. You'd have better luck trying Starmen.net's newest PK Call'N.

Those game-pushing things that Starmen.net pulls are a nice thought but they've never really accomplished anything. I frequented that community for years and didn't see much payback asides from the occasional acknowledgement from Nintendo that Mother/Earthbound fans do indeed exist. Weak.

But yeah, you're probably right. With the Mother 1+2 collection released in Japan there's no chance for a Mother 1 to be a Famicom Mini game.

Oh well. I still have my old Earthbound cart to keep be amused.

Just because it's available in a better deal doesn't mean N won't throw it into the FC series. See Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 1&2, Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, ...

Actually, I'm excited about the prospect of SMB2jp coming here.  The version that was included in SMB DX sucked (a good 1/3rd of the game was cut out) and the SNES version had all those snazzy updated graphics... and who knows what all Nintendo edited in the SNES version for the "stupid" American audience...  The "Lost Levels" were some of the hardest things I've ever done in my time spent playing video games...  To NoA I say "Bring 'em on!"

True, I forgot about the missing letter-levels in SMB DX.  OK, I take back the boo about SMB2.  I still stand by the Metroid statement, sine there's both a ROM in Metroid Prime and a remake on the GBA.
