Mafia LXXXV: Metroid Dread. Day 4.
« on: March 30, 2020, 11:32:17 PM »
Story Post

If I had more ambition to elaborate, today's story would run along the lines of Samus Aran in her gunship still trying to recover from the X-Parasite infection she suffered on Day 1. But her Fusion Suit repairs were just not coming along fast enough as she tried to heal herself on her own. Fearing the worst, Samus proceeded to write her last will and testament (in reference to all of BeautifulShy's typing in Day 3.) She slips into unconsciousness unaware that her ship begins transmitting the signal alerting everyone on the planet to her location. From a distance, the Space Pirates blast away at her ship and blow her up. The Space Pirates have finally taken out their greatest nemesis. Mother Brain and Ridley are pleased. During the victory celebration, a drunken Space Pirate stumbles upon the Federation Black Ops Base and is killed before he can report back what he's seen.

I guess you'll just have to imagine that scenario with more elaborate scene-setting, clunkier dialogue and a dumb joke or two thrown in.  STORY!!

Announcement Post

The following players have died:

BeautifulShy - Samus Aran (Killed by Day Vote)
ejamer - Space Pirate (Killed by Federation/Mafia)

With Samus dying in the vote, she could not make a kill at night. One hunter down, one to go. This means that with Samus Aran out of the way then Dark Samus can now make a hit every night.

There are 14 players still alive. That means the majority vote for Day 4 would need to consist of 8 votes. Voting Period / Day will be open another 48 hours and change closing at Midnight (12:00 AM) EST on Thursday Apr 2, 2020. (Unless there is another majority vote to end it sooner.)

To recap, there are still 9 players on the Townie Space Pirates side, 4 players on the Mafia Federation side and 1 Killer Samus left. Although there's been a lot of focus on the Samus players of the game, the townies and Killer may need to start getting concerned about that Mafia. What will today bring?

Let's find out.

Whoops. I was on about 2 hours ago and noted I would have to start the next day soon. Then I started playing a bit more of Chrono Trigger and making supper and then it hit me I needed to get this game back in action. Sorry on the minor delay.  :-[

Hmmm.
So this is the Federation's first kill after they presumably reconned both previous nights. And ejamer was an unspecialised Space Pirate like me, so we can assume teh Federation did not make any valuable recons and that they had not used a recon on ejamer either. In my opinion the ability for the Federation to scan for items is not valuable because the Metroid is the only item they ahve and at this point we can all assume Comrade Kraid has it.

Fortunately for us pirates, the federation have revealed themselves to be foolish players. ejamer was very unlikely to have been Kraid since that would've invovled manipulating his own public vote against comrade Mr Bungle (pirate). While such an audacious feint may distract from Kraid's identity, it is still in Kraid's interest to stack votes for big moves when needed.

So my understanding of the game at this point, as someone who hasn't played in about a decade, is that right now Kraid is MVP and right now we pirates can only hole that union secretary Mother Brain locates and protects comrade Kraid. Both the Federation and Dark Samus want to kill our comrade as their top priority.
The Federation appear unorganised and foolish, so I think us pirates should mostly be looking to flush out Dark Samus at this time because they are unencumbered by the inefficient Federation bureaucracy.

I will refrain from voting now, I must analyse any past votes that may've been manipulated to protect gormless Federation bureaucrats. Any ideas comrades?

So, obviously, the mafia/dark samus piled on the B-Shy vote to get that role off the table.  I would've been willing to give ejamer a pass because they were willing to at least hear me out, though I didn't have a case for Lucario at that time, but that doesn't matter because dead.

Speaking of Lucario, I understand his vote was mostly self-defense, but he was in a pretty safe place at the time of his vote, which triggered the majority.  He offered little defense of himself, although he was hardly accused.  I think not hearing out the townie play or trying to put someone else on the voting block makes him suspicious to me.  I argued why keeping B-Shy was the better townie play yesterday.  I wish I would've added that leaving Samus on the table means that the Mafia would've been forced to make that the hit, which would have given the townies another day with the Metroid (assuming one of us has it?).  I think the townie move would've been to at least take the low risk and try to sway people into voting someone else, knowing that any one other player could've saved him.  Taking the easy route was a better play for a Mafia player.

So, with that, vote Lucario.

Yeah that did seem suspicious for Lucario to suddenly jump in at the end when they weren't in danger yet.  I voted for BeatifulShy as well but that was earlier when she said she wanted to leave the game for personal issues when everyone else who voted for her did as well.  After you and ejamer started getting into a conversation about why we should think it over more, and there hadn't been anymore votes in awhile, Lucario gives the majority vote to end the day.

I'm thinking there's a good chance Lucario is Dark Samus.  If they were mafia, they would have voted at a closer time as the other ones or waited until they were truly in danger.  If they were townie, they would have either voted during the early bandwagon or waited longer to hear other explanations.  Who else would want to end the day as quickly as possible unless they had their own agenda and wanted regular Samus out of the game so they could have hit power every night.

Vote Lucario

There hasn't been a whole lot of activity and BeautifulShy was a distraction yesterday, so I feel like this is still a bit of a guessing game. However, my thinking is that there had to have been at least one Mafia voting for Pokepal148 on day one, and I was thinking it could actually be between the first to vote him, which are Insanolord and ShyGuy. Based on his history after day one, yeah, I think I'll join this vote.

Hmmmm

The counterbandwagon has arrived pretty quickly here, but the theorising against Lucario has never consisted of anything more substantial than "he's inactive" and that was originally pushed by the overly active Samus. That said, lack of meaningful engagement is sometimes a tell of a a Federation lackey, secure in their position and not having to publicly broadcast to recruit for the Space Pirate Union.

TheFleece has so far acted similarly. As has insanolord.

For now, un-vote nwr_Insanolord

(I more just wanted to finish the day)

I am forced to vote again to save myself it seems

With different timezones this has been rather easy, i've been trying to keep a low profile. Working behind the scenes gathering information you could say.

So, with that said my vote is no longer just a safety vote for my protection. From what things people have said in dm's and the general playstyle. Isan is extremely sus.

I wouldn't really characterize either of my votes so far as bandwagon votes. I was just voting for Pokepal as kind of a joke and accidentally started a bandwagon, and I only voted for BeautifulShy because she was clearly going out and I was trying to help trigger the majority and get the game moving.

12 hours or so into Day 4, let's see how things are shaping up:

NWR_insanolord - 5 votes
Lucario - 2 votes

7 votes total means half the possible votes that can be cast this day have been done so. Will those votes yet to be cast change the situation or will those who have voted change their mind? Still lot's of possible game time for this Day to progress so plenty of ways it could might shake out. So exciting!! Especially with pokepal148 not here. ZING!!!! :smug: Awwww. :'( I shouldn't kick a man when he's down but it just comes so easily with him.  :-[

I have been in contact with quite a few people...
Let's just say i think isanolord is innocent.

And with their calibration i have come to the conclusion that you MOP ARE THE GODFATHER, or very high mafia to say the least.

I am in contact with the detective, he told me my role before i even said anything so i know that is true.
And another person approached me as well, with both of their testimony i was able to determine they where both town and they both had one massive coincidence, you mop. You where trying to play someone against a party and it just so happens that, that group all mysteriously died one by one. And with the help of the detective i am certain at the very lest that you are not a townie. I have been quiet all this time biding my time, waiting for one of you to **** up. And now i have it.

12 hours or so into Day 4, let's see how things are shaping up:

Why did I say 12 hours? It was 24 hours. I've lost the ability to tell time this game.  :o :(

To be clear, Day 4 only has about 13 hours left in it right now provided a Majority isn't reached before then.

I'm considering walking back my Lucario vote.  However, Lucario's vote comes with a fairly weak explanation, but maybe it's true.  If he's lying about the detective, then the detective should come forward to vote against him.

Steef is claiming that the federation knows at least on townie identity and is targeting Insanolord for bandwagon behavior.  I think some people on the B-Shy bandwagon were mafia, but I'm not sure who.

Either way, the vote count looks like this:
Lucario: 4
Insanolord: 5
Mop it up: 1

*wipe, wipe, wipe* Bar Keepers Friend. Keeps the place looking mirror-finish good, I have cases of it. A barkeep on Planet Outlaw needs all the friends they can get. I wonder what's the waitresses friend? Fat stacks via tips? Sounds fit for one of those long philosophical conversations Cupcake and I have while waiting for the bandits to finish their looting so we can get home.

The Planet Outlaw Federation of Space Pirates and Bounty Hunters Convention starts soon (chamber of commerce's latest attempt to appeal to everyone). Rumors have been swirling for days, but not all rumors are created equal. Some say the positively feline Mop It Up could be a fed or a killer. I could see it. I wonder if they're willing to break cover to prove otherwise?

Before Samus Aran flew away for the last time, she told me over a cup of hot cocoa that her spidey-sense was squarely on Luigi Dude. A killer using the cover of the federation to commit their crimes. A bad dude as they say in the old arcade games, Ain't we got enough trouble with the space pirates tearing stuff up? Maybe Dark Samus would be interested in causing some well-deserved chaos among some corrupt troopers?
