erm... it comes out on my birthday and I might go see it with a friend?

Anyways, I don't think that Terminator 3 will be as good as the first two.  It just seems... kinda off from the trailers I saw.  However, I am looking forward to it simply so that I can watch the world go straight down the tubes.  No matter how many times I see the end of the world, it's never enough.    Someday I will destroy the world for real and get my fix once and for all.

I saw the preview/trailer when I saw the Matrix Reloaded and was not impressed.  Still, I will see it with my friends as I really liked the first 2 movies.

I've already seen a good portion of T3 ( like I saw & posted about Lord of the Rings:Two Towers, Xmen2, etc.) and it looks good. It has some good gags too. Lots of good action.

Are you kidding AiAI?
This movie gets  better with every trailer that comes out!
That first one where the guy goes "itwas sent  back through time for one purpose only....to kill us all" was a bit sh*tty, but the latest one, which has Arnie fixing himself and all that, and saying "I am a machine" that one is f**king awesome.
I know that even though this one will be great, people will just go "meh, T2 is better". I think T3 will rock.

Do you know what i hate? That every year there comes some movie who claims the number one spot of that year in US, leaving LOTR in second. i fear T3 is that movie this year. last year it was spider man, year before that harry potter.
Just LOTR fanboy talking here...

I thought Terminator 1 pretty muched sucked. But you had to see it cuz it contained important information for the story. But T2 totally rocked. Did anyone get the extreme edition DVD?

It's about time this movie got here.  The original movie didn't suck as bad as the second one sucked.  I liked both movies, but the second just seemed to have a hint of kiddiness to it.  I think that is due to having such a young child as a main and very important character.

Personally I can't see how a third film could even be created.  T2 was one of those rare films where everything was tied up at the end thus leaving no room for a sequel.  The chip designer is dead and all traces of the machines have been destroyed.  That seems like a pretty firm "THE END" to me.

T2 was one of the few sequels around where it made sense for a sequel to be made.  Though pretty good for its time the first film was really limited by a low budget and some primitive special effects (like the Arnold puppet used in the eyeball scene).  T2 allowed for things that couldn't have been done in the second film and it had a storyline continuation that made sense.  When watching T2 I thought to myself "this is what James Cameron wishes he could have done with the first film".

T3 is an unnecessary sequel.  I'm pretty damn sure the reason it came into existence was because some studio execs couldn't think of anything else and figured that they could probably milk the Terminator franchise for some easy money.  Much like how in Jurassic Park 3 it makes no sense for anyone to return to the park in T3 it makes no sense for any Terminators to even exist.  It just reaks of a "make a buck" film and therefore I won't be seeing it, in theatre at least.

Oddly enough the new female terminator is EXACTLY what I envisioned when they first announced a sequel.  I thought "okay they just had a liquid metal guy, how do they top that?  Maybe a machine that can actually create it's own weaponry?  And how about they make it a chick to change things up?"  I swear that's what I thought of.  Is it great minds thinking alike or is the idea just too predictable?

Actually James Cameron has completely trashed Terminator 3, and wants nothing to do with it because he knew it was an unneeded sequel.    I agree with you completely Ian, but I want to see it anyways.  It will have action, and it will be an interesting watch, even if it isn't up to the levels of the first 2.

T1 sucked.
T2 rocked.
T3 will rock also.

My friend tells me that SkyNet is commissioned to make the AI chips for the US military.
The arm and the chip in T2 just quickened the process for CyberDyne.
So even though they were destroyed, SkyNet would have made the robots anyway.

It's like how Hollywood releases movies about robots taking over the world and destrying humanity, so why don't scientists stop trying to make robots with AI capabilites for fear that they will do the same?
AI in games is fine, cause then they can'tkill you.

T1 kicked ass.  I think you are on crack or something.

Anyways, what's wrong with putting advanced AI into robots?  for the longest time, people were saying that an intelligent AI in a computer would kill us all.  People are just scared of the unknown like a bunch of sheep.

That was exactly what I thought.  How could they top the liquid metal guy?

Termin8Anakin - T1 was the best.  How could you not like it?  Part of why I liked it was because Arnie was the bad guy.  That was different to the usual good role he plays.

I somewhat agree with Termin8 about T1.  I didn't think it sucked outright but it's pretty lame compared to the second film.  If T2 had never been released it probably would be considered a better film but because it has something so superior to compare it to it doesn't seem as a good.  One thing that bugged me about the first film is that The Terminator will take all these bullets and then just stand up.  It's so much cooler if the, like T-1000, the Terminator appears to take damage and then repairs himself.  It also reminds you that it's a robot.  In the first Terminator it looks like a guy no-selling bullets more than an unstopable machine.

As for scientists making robots everything is fine provided that robots don't have advanced enough AI for them to have independant thought.  As long as they just follow instructions like every other computer then we'll be fine.  Besides we have enough sci-fi films to know how to handle the situation.  For example check out the Second Renaissance on the Animatrix DVD for a lesson in what NOT to do if robots get too intelligent.

Yeah i know! For God's sake! Don't let them have their own city! I'd love to have a robot, but someone like C-3PO (g*y nature withstanding) or even better, Andrew (from Bicentennial Man). They at least have some specific programming that prohibits them from killing.

TERMINATOR 3 SPOILERS!

...

...

...

...

...

Yeah, I know I could probably try out that new "spoiler tag" thingy, but now that the movie's out we all know this thread's going to turn into one giant spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen it yet anyways.

Anyways, I saw the movie yesterday. I really liked it.

T2 was the ultimate sequel. But T3 has a slightly different flavor. I kind of liked it that way. It's like, the Arnold-model (I forget the number) Terminator in this movie seemed completely like a Terminator, but more like a younger brother of the Arnold-model Terminator from T2. He seems like the same guy from T2. You want him to be the same guy as the one from T2. He's really close. But he's not the same. I felt that little bit explained the movie for me. Which is odd, because I usually don't go for that subtle "metaphor" stuff.

I thought the movie totally fit into the storyline. And it was even needed to make the story more complete (unlike what a lot of other people have said).

It's like, in the first Terminator, John Connor was a paradox. He was leading humanity's resistance, and supposedly heard about the machines building a time machine to assassinate his mother before his birth, so they raided the facility, and he sent his best soldier Reese through to protect her. In doing so he (knowingly?) engineered his own birth.

Then in T2, Skynet was revealed to be a paradox too. Miles Dyson was designing Skynet using pieces of the failed assassin-Terminator. The future humans supposedly had Skynet on the retreat, and it sent a T-1000 prototype through the time machine in a desperation attempt to kill John Connor, and the humans (presumably after taking the facility) sent a captured and reprogrammed Arnold-model through (since another human might not have been enough). Sarah, the young John, and Arnie took out the T-1000 and eliminated all possibility of Skynet's paradox-origin.

Everyone seems to think that should be the end of Skynet, but how did the paradox form in the first place? The old fasioned way. Through long hours and effort on the part of military designers, of course. Skynet's paradox just made it's creation earlier and easier.

Terminator 3 answered that. it didn't just take the easy way out and say "It's a paradox. Go figure." Of course, what about the John Connor paradox? Well, Skynet already exists, so I'm gonna theorize that Reese (John's best soldier) was formerly the leader of the human resistance, and that he went back in time for some unknown reason (perhaps to stop a machine attempt to assinate his own mother) and ended up involved with Sarah somehow, creating a better leader for humanity, who was then able to eventually engineer his own birth when Skynet used the same tactics on him that they would've used on Reese. Of course that's all fiction, made up by me. Whatever the origin of John Connor is, Skynet has been trying to break his paradox since the first movie.

And for T3, they even revealed another angle to it. T2 fixed Skynet's paradox, but the mission wasn't completly free of timeline corruption. It messed up John Connor's life. He was supposed to live with his foster parents and get married and wonder about his crazy mom, right up until Judgement Day.

After John eventually dies, his future wife (yeah, I just watched the movie yesterday, and I forgot her name) sends an Arnold-model back to make her own paradox (And take out the superflous Terminatrix. I mean, what would've been wrong with another T-1000? Besides the fact that we've seen it before), by forcing herself and the messed-up John to face their role, and just keep the advantage of the elimination of the Skynet paradox. She never intended to let Arnie help them try and take out Skynet. No home runs. Just a good base-hit.

Now everyone's saying that they set up the ending for endless sequels. I don't really think so. Sure, they could personally show you the war in the future now, but they don't need to. They've been talking about it and showing pieces of it for three movies now. That might be enough. The ending looks like a cliffhanger, but it's just leading up to the first movie.

Hmm... that's all I can think to comment on for now.
Poor people should eat wheat!
I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

OK, first of all, T3 was released in the US before Australia (July 2 in the US, July 17 here). I just saw it with a friend.

This is what I think:

In T1, John Conner is probably the child of ANOTHER man. He then becomes the leader of the human resistance in the future when the machines take over. Finding out the machines have sent a Terminator (T1 Arnie) back through time to kill his mother, Kyle Reese, being John's best soldier, is also sent back through time, to protect Sarah. He then becomes John's NEW father, and John is now brought up knowing he will lead the humans.

SkyNet is a virus-destroying program that has it's own AI (as seen in T3). I thought, from T1 and T2, that it was a company that creates AI for machines. I guess it isn't.

In T1 and T2, Judgment Day comes in August 1997. The chip and arm (found from T1 in the factory) Miles Dyson uses for his research speeds it up, but J-Day still comes in 1997. Because Sarah, John and "T2 Arnie" destroy CyberDyne, research is set back, and the new date for Judgment Day is whenever T3 is set (2003?).

In T3, John says that he meets Catherine's father the day after they make out in that basement, and would therefore know about the Shelter and how to fight the machines. In T2, "T2 Arnie" comes back in time, and 'cancels' that meeting, and the new meeting date is in T3 at the Military Compound. John and Catherine would have gone into the Fallout Shelter at Crystal Peak anyway and helped the humans anyway.

The T-X is sent back through time to kill John Conner. Her side missions in getting to Conner is to kill his lieutenents, so if she fails to kill COnner, he will at least have no lieutenents to help him. After John is terminated by "T3 Arnie" in the future, "T3 Arnie" is captured by the humans, and is programmed by Catherine to protect John in the past.

There is no way to stop Judgement Day. It is the military's obsession with created AI defence systems that makes it happen, If research is interrupted, D-Day will only come at a later date.

In other words, out future is f**ked up

The creation of a T4 movie will only probably be based on the humans fighting the machines, and winning, but that is something we don't need to see.
If they make it around the humans winning the war, it will have to show Conner/Catherine sending Reese, "T2 Arnie", and "T3 Arnie" back through time.
T4 would therefore be one confusing mess, unless they base the war one some alternate dimension where none of the events of the past three movies ever happens.

I think you guys are reading this way too deep.    All this talk about paradox's and stuff.    I was rather pleased with the way that Terminator 2 ended, with one huge loop.  I have always been a fan of non-linear storylines.

Anyways, I just finished watching the movie.  I have to admit that although I was the voice of doom on the movie before it came out, I will actually help you guys defend it now that it's out.  It wasn't my favorite Terminator by any means (in fact, I think it's my least favorite), but I think it's a pretty solid movie regardless.  It's got action, hot chicks, and lots of explosions.  What more could you want?

Yeah, I've drank a bottle of Sake while watching the movie, and I have to work in 9 hours, so I need to go play some America's Army (tradition... drinking = play FPS) then go to sleep so I can work tonight.
