Four More Titles for NES Classics
« on: August 11, 2004, 06:00:30 AM »
Nintendo's got more classic lovin' headed your way.

Game Informer Online has learned that Nintendo will be releasing four more games into the Game Boy Advance Classic NES series later this year. The four games are:

  • Dr. Mario
  • Castlevania
  • Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
  • Metroid

The four games will be available on October 25th and will carry a suggested retail price of $19.99.

I'm disappointed. Do we really need anohter way to play NES Metroid? Dr. Mario (or, Dr. Wario at least) is already included in Wario Ware. Why would I want these games yet again? Also, why only four? Japan is getting Kid Icarus, why aren't we? And where the heck is Punch-Out!!?
First you're compaining they are releasing the games. Then you're complaining they aren't releasing enough games. Now you're complaining they're not releasing specific games. Should I assume next you are going to complain they aren't available on PS2 and Xbox?

Well I'm sorry that I think the list sucks. It's only half the size of the last NES Classics list and half of the games are already avalaible on GBA elseware. There are games they could be releasing but they aren't (Kid Icarus in part of the Famicom Mini line in Japan, but for some reason not here).

All of the games Nintendo of America are releasing on the NES Classics line are part of the Famicom Mini line in Japan. In other words it works like this:

1. Nintendo's Japanese Branch releases games into the Famicom Mini line
2. Ninetndo of America looks at the FamiMini games and decides which ones to bring to the US
3. The chosen games are released here in the US

What this means is that we will never get any games in the NES Classic line that were only popular in America. Nintendo's Japanese branch is doing all the work here, so they aren't going to take the time to convert something like Punch-Out!! because the Japanese audience won't buy it. What this boils down to is that we are getting nothing but hand me downs from the Famicom Mini line, and that sucks. We're never going to see games that were popular in the US but not popular in Japan because they won't be made for the NES Classic Line.

Nintendo may change it's mind if the series does really well over here.  Well, I can dream anyway!
That's my opinion, not yours.

We also have Zelda 2 on the Zelda collectors' edition. So the only one really worth buying is Castlevania.

Then Dr. Mario on Wario Ware and the GCN Bonus disc

and Metroid - Zero Mission wasnt only a remake of the original Metroid, it HAS the original Metroid. So does Prime, if you link up with Metroid Fusion when you beat it.

Pretty lame, Nintendo, pretty lame.

This does not bode well at all for the whole dark phoenix/kid icarus rumor.... (if that even still is a rumor)

If NOA doesn't care enough to release Kid Icarus, I doubt there is a new one in the pipeline anywhere.

lol NAL have canned the release of the NES GBA Classics. I hope Nintendo include Metroid with Metroid Prime 2 just so I can laugh at them.

Overall I am not at all impressed with Nintendo for this line.  While I can appreciate some remakes when they are called for (such as Super Mario World and Zelda for GBA) this line seems to be complete hogwash.  Paying $30 Canadian, or $20 american for this stuff is laughable.  The problem is, nintendo put no work into these, and is easily making a profit off of them.  Come on Nintendo, production costs are minimal, make them 20 Can/15 American.

Where's my Star Tropics, Kid Icarus, and Duck Hunt damn it!  Nintendo really needs to let more 3rd parties in on the celebration.  The selection is quite lacking.

Even more mysterious is that poll Nintendo put up a few months ago asking which games we'd like to see... I'm pretty sure Kid Icarus was high up there...

I'm disappointed too. The only NES Classic I've bought so far is Zelda, and that was just for the fact it was Zelda. Otherwise, they have yet to tempt me with an irrisitable game, and with these four titles, they still haven't. I am disappointed in Nintendo for cutting back the US releases so much.

If you want Kid Icarus, I suppose you could wait and see if NOA has a third wave, which I kinda doubt, or you could just import it. At least then you'd get a better package.

Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
