NWR Feedback / RE: Gamecube websites...
« on: January 31, 2004, 11:02:38 AM »
i've been using opera for years and i haven't seen a pop up for as long as i can remember... the point is, this site got boring about a year ago... the forums have (for the most part) narrow-minded fanboys and the news are slow... not nearly half of what it used to be... and they keep saying that "at least we're not charging you," but with so many ads (compared to the small content), I don't see the benefit... anyhoo, I'm out... let the search for a decent site continue...

NWR Feedback / Gamecube websites...
« on: January 31, 2004, 05:14:13 AM »
Hi...

I've been coming to PGC since 1999 or so... I remember when their layout was green! Not only was this site the biggest and best GCN site out there, but it was also the only decent GCN site on the net... But now, as I seek my daily dose of Nintendo news, all I see is massive spam attack and very little news. I know, I know, the staff here at PGC need to earn their cash and all, and I also know that hosting a site this big isn't free either...

But still, this is 2004, and it would't be so hard to use apache and save on the host bills... Even then, though, I don't see how this site will ever be the same again... There was nothing like silly Billy and Ricky Powers in his full power...

Today I've come to realize that I need a new and better source of GCNness... I've been looking for a site with more dedicated people and hopefully less ads... I've found one in particular that caught my attention real good (http://www.ningc.com), but I want to see the whole spectrum...

So if you guys know of any PGC-like sites, please post! I'd really appreciate that!!!

much love -- Pimple

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo & Microsoft -- UNITED?
« on: September 01, 2003, 06:43:22 AM »
here's the best translation you can get (coming from a native portuguese speaker -- ME!):

microsoft wants to shake nintendo's hands (8,/27)

Calm down, we're not going to make such a big deal just to notify you of a simple hand shake. What we want to say is that international sourcer (including Europe and the USA) confirm that Bill Gate's company is about to sign an agreement with Nintendo.

The partnership would include the production of the new generation of consoles. Neither company have made any official announcements about such agreement. But between ourselves here, it wouldn't be all that bad to unite the tecnology of the computer giant with the know-how of the Big-N, hein...

General Chat / This boards are TOO strict!
« on: April 28, 2003, 01:35:29 PM »
No wonder there's only about 50 active users here these days....
Of course, I'm not saying the thousands of people that came every day when the boards were hosted by EZBoards came because the rules weren't strict, but this has become pathetic!
Why do you think Gamefaqs is so successfull (other than the faq that it's not Nintendo only)?
For one thing, there's more variety. Why can't I just start a Mario based thread on the Gamecube board?

Why so many different boards anyways?
If I'm looking for something specific, I need to go to every single board to find it, and since Murphy's law says it'll be on the last one I look, it ends up taking a loooong time to find it. And after I finally find it, it usually gets deleted/locked up anyways.

So now we can't start polls...?
I guess there really isn't any reasons for keeping an account here any more.
Anyways, post your thoughts before someone makes this topic disapper...

General Chat / old school PGC... were you part of it?
« on: March 08, 2003, 06:04:32 AM »
hello.
i remember coming to planet gamecube when it was first released.
i even remember that the layout was mostly green! so one day, I
came to the forums and pointed out that the GCN was purple (indigo)
and the xbox was the green console... most people said the page
was cool anyway (and it was), but my thread was deleted within a
day! of course, much to my surprise the page was upgraded about
a month or so later, and this time the green was all gone.
that was actually pretty funny....

anyhoo, how long have you been coming to planet gamecube?
what's something they had back in the day, that they no longer
have? anything you miss?

thanks!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo: no longer in Brazil!!!!
« on: February 28, 2003, 05:19:21 PM »
well, i don't think they were very many gcn games being pirated. the system there costs 'only' R$8,000.00 (reals), which is about $400.00 USD. not too bad if you look at the xbox and ps2, both selling at R$1,500.00 (almost $800.00 USD).
nintendo still (or at least they used to) sells tons of gameboy color, snes, and mostly, N64 products in brazil. so i believe most of the piracy went around those systems. of course, i'm sure the gba got involved, but the gcn was probably not.

ah, my wrist popped out of place today (b-boying), so i can't type any more...

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo: no longer in Brazil!!!!

http://www.estadao.com.br/tecnologia/informatica/2003/fev/27/30.htm

This is BIG news, guys!!!
In a nut shell, official Nintendo products will no longer be manufactured to our Brazilian brothers

Gradiente Eletronica, the company that has the rights to manufacture and sell licensed Nintendo games and products, says that the reason they're quitting the business are the high piracy rates, high exchange rates, and low sales characters.

At the end of the article, though, they mention that they will still offer technical support to products (GCN's, GBA's, SNES, GBC, etc) already on the market, and they will also continue to sell parts and accessories (controllers, memory cards, and such).

Please don't delete this post! I tried to email it to Billy, but something is wrong with my email, so outgoing messages end up going nowhere.

Thanks!

Nintendo Gaming / game specs ?
« on: February 15, 2003, 09:03:56 PM »
hi...
is there a way to find out the numbers behind the games?
i tried inserting my mario game on my pc cd drive, but it didn't do nothing (like i expected, since the gcn game is read from the inside out).
also, does anyone know of any websites with such info?

the reason i ask is because i've heard people say that george lucas once said that roge squadron run on 25 million polygons per second, while it only used half the gcn's power... BUT, if you look at the system specs, it says that it only supports 6-12 million polygons per second.

thanks!
