GP, you're wrong, I like the game. Why did you even bother to quote my post if you have nothing to add.

How about we wait until the game is out before declaring it outstanding.

I am most excited about seeing how many times I can complete each puzzle.  Since you can't use the same item twice the difficulty will go up every time and you will have to be more creative and think of new objects with the right applications.
I guess you could see that as your score for the level, how many times you've beaten it being forced to use a different method each time. Pretty neat.

This game looks so fucking ugly in widescreen

If we don't see more stuff like Elebits and Dewy it's because they absolutely bombed beyond belief. Even on DS the new Elebits could barely scrape a few thousand sales in Japan. Nobody to blame for this but consumers.

Prince of Persia. Just outright ignored, it's a fun beautiful game.

God I wish people would stop saying hardcore, the word itself is just embarrassing and alienating, kind of like Xbox and PS3.

Anyway i'm still boycotting this flop until they add multiplayer.

It's amazing fun, one of the best games on Wii and the most innovative game in a long time.

I finally got this proper console but aside from racing games, almost every game sucks due to the controller. Pacman is unplayable and I can't believe there are so many FPS games for this analog stick, it's impossible to aim accurately, Far Cry Vengeance is better than bloody Far Cry 2, unbelievable. This really does feel like a huge step backwards from Wii. I still love it for Forza 2 and PGR4 though, amazing racing even if they do have crap presentation.

Sorry to interrupt the little orgy in this thread but I couldn't leave this post alone.

City Folk gets bashed for being an updated sequel with some improvements and additions. While I agree that more could've been done technically all sequels offer very little in terms of innovation.

Let's take a look at some sequels:
Gears of War 2: Plays exactly like the first game, save for new scenarios, improvements in graphics, sound and game mechanics and of course, it shows the next part in the story.

Resident Evil 5: From all the trailers it looks to play nearly identical to RE 4, save with some slight improvements, new main character, story and setting. Hell, even the enemies look the same, except they are African now.

GTA IV: Its pretty much a hi-def version of GTA III, except it doesn't completely improve on it and even takes some of the things that made the earlier game beloved, like expanded wardrobe features.

Halo 3: Was praised as the best multiplayer game ever. Yet, the single player campaign mode was shorter than in the previous games.

These games were highly praised sequels but are guilty of not really evolving the core gameplay and ideas. City Folk gets bashed for doing this when in reality is an expanded sequel in which old and new ideas are explored, expanded, polished and presented to the audience and makes the game better than in its earlier iterations.

So if CF gets bashed for doing this why don't any of the games above get their criticism? Is it because they offer improvements in story and graphics? So if CF looked extremely different from the earlier games and offered a deep story would the reviews be better even if the game plays exactly like the older games?

In that case, the Pokemon games are IDENTICAL to each other, yet gets praised for the content. Again, what's up with that?

This is ridiculous. City Folk is bashed for being a LAZY EFFORT by the best developer in the world. Wow 20 million new item skins, one guy could have done all that in a week. All those games, even though I don't like them, have an arse load of new everything, and effort. To compare new gameplay to some new buildings in the city is absolutely PATHETIC. They are NEW GAMES. GTA4 is a COMPLETELY different game to past GTAs.

Even Pokemon changes a LOT, every game has a completely different WORLD (AC fail), incredible new music (AC fail), and gameplay elements (AC fail) that completely change the balance of the game. Most of all it has passion and innovation. The only thing AC City Folk does right that you'd expect is it has nice graphics. This sets a very bad precedent. Look forward to the new Zelda, set in the exact same place as Twilight Princess, with one new dungeon, 5 more heart pieces to find, and new outfits for Link. NEW Zelda! The Legend of Zelda: Newness of New.

City Folk is not GTA4, it's not Gears of War 2, it's Super Mario Advance, it's OoT: Master Quest, it's Chrono Trigger DS. Except UNLIKE those polished ports, this game is a complete random mess. Controls are all over the place, some menus you can scroll up and down with the stick, some you need the pointer, and the store catalogue is RETARDED, not even allowing you to scroll up and down properly. Fishing is now worse, you can't even see 50% of the ocean where fish could be, it's trial and error "oh, nothing there. that was fun" NOT! It also has much more loading, no more Messages in a Bottle, no message of the week, no villager picture frames, no more side rooms in the house, less options and less variety with NPC interaction and also text typing and pattern making is WAY more clumsy than the DS version. Speaking of limits can anybody believe how lame it is that the town board is so limited? It's just friggin text, yet it gets erased after a week or two. They could allow HUNDREDS of message board posts. Also that path erosion crap makes my town look like a friggin battlefield, WTF? It was cool for a day or two but jesus, the game not only had no effort put into it, but no THOUGHT.

In fact i'd go as far to say that City Folk is the WORST version of Animal Crossing. It's the DS version without portability and ease of use and everything I just mentioned, and the GC version without NES games, police station, connectivity island and e-reader fun, and the GC version has a better title screen with a variety of towns displayed at different times, MUCH better music, cool code system (which they could still have, not everyone has online, this is like noline, heaps cool), monthly lotteries and movable save data.

Anyway, I was going to donate my town to the forum and leave my town open and Wii on for a week or so for people to come in and do ANYTHING to it. Cut down every tree, rape the message board, steal fossils, send threats or love letters to my people, throw rotten turnips on the ground, steal my fruit, use my Nook, heck maybe do something imaginative. BUT, looks like my Wii is breaking down now (thanks again Nintendo, even my PS2 still works) so i've gotta send it in to get fixed and knowing NAL it'll be gone for months or they'll break it. Maybe City Folk breaks Wiis, add another impressive new feature to the list, woudn't surprise me given everything else they overlooked.

I got this a few weeks ago, great game. I quit after that final boss bull**** (an attack that does more HP than I have? get real. is that revive item possible to use at this point to continue?) though. Overall a pleasant game with funny characters, decent environments, good music and the gameplay is ok even if it's a bit unreliable with slashing. It's also got 16 save slots! Awesome!

What I don't get though, is why the game wasn't on DS. The gameplay make a ton more sense with the touch screen, as you could actually slash wherever you wanted accurately. Even stab everywhere.

TalkBack / Re: Advice to PS3 Fans from a Nintendo Fanboy Part III
« on: December 20, 2008, 09:12:11 PM »
HELL NO.

PS3 is not GameCube.

GameCube has some of the best games ever made, games with true passion, true INNOVATION. Even the sequels like Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker felt brand new. PS3 has abortions and soulless clones. Gimmick games with ipod product placement. No emotion. No direction.

GameCube sold and profited DESPITE all the negative media, DESPITE being a purple lunchbox for babies, despite third parties hurling big bricks of **** at it. PS3 is selling the same with massive marketing behind it, viral campaigns, support from all the gaming media, being a huge powerful box, having multimedia capabilities, and third parties liking it so much that they are willing to risk TOTAL COLLAPSE to make games for it. It's INCREDIBLE how bad PS3 is doing, in fact I don't think it could possibly be doing worse, with all that "going" for it. GameCube is a modest little man who can't reach the key because it's too high up, while PS3 is a giant fucking fat slob who can't reach the key because he knocked the entire bookshelf over and fell on the key and it got stuck inside his flab rolls and embedded in his skin. They are in the same predicament for completely different reasons.

Nintendo can always support a console no matter what the climate, because they actually make games themselves, Sony has been exposed as having no idea what to do. They even dropped the ball with one of the few games they have left Gran Turismo.

Some companies held out their review money for GOTY money I guess.

Kotaku's reviews, especially, don't have enough content in them in order for me to figure out whether a game would be a 7 or an 8, and when I'm shopping with a limited budget, I want to know pretty exactly how good this $60 disc is supposed to be.
Uh, the fact is the numbers are always wrong too. "I might skip this game because it's only 8 worthy and my budget is 9's and up" is a completely retarded way of thinking that leads to unhappiness.

The arcade is a near usless console though.  Some of my most wanted 360 games are on XBLA.
Not for me, it's got everything I need. Screw Xbox Live.

It has sold just over 500,000 so far. Wild World is at 5 million in Japan alone. Nice try but BZZZTTTTT. City Folk is also doing MUCH worse in other territories.

Thank you Kairon, your advice has been a good help to all PS3 fans. Both of them.

Come on, we don't want to sour this best games thread with an AC debate do we? The difference is this isn't a re-release, Nintendo are trying to pass it off as a whole new game, it's had three years potential development time. That sounds like a Super Mario Advance press release. Nintendo hardly even had to think when making this game. Remember when Nintendo sequels used to be really new and surprising?

It's Nintendos big holiday game and not even in the top 10 in the US, debuted at #37 or something in the UK and outsold by games like Rabbids TV Party, and is also doing terrible here despite having commercials and advertising everywhere you look. I'm sure it's made big profit considering the development, but it's not a big mainstream hit.

I think it's the best AC too but I really can't give the game praise when standing next to such brand new games like Disaster and No More Heroes and proper sequels with incredible new gameplay mechanics on top of blistering new content like Mario Kart Wii.

It shows they really have no idea of how people view games.

On another note, the Force Unleashed commercial shown here has to be the worst piece of marketing i've ever seen. It shows grainy FMV with some dark voiceover and then just boxarts of all the versions, when the game could have sold 100 times more if they just showed some kid swinging the Wii Remote around like a lightsaber. SO many people out there just dont GET IT! And it's hurting the industry, they need to be cleaned out.

1. Wii Music
2. Disaster
3. No More Heroes
4. Ferrari Challenge
5. Shaun White Snowboarding

Other highlights for me include Wii Fit, De Blob, Alien Crush Returns.

It's a bit early to be doing this list since the year isn't over, and there is still a major release to come out here in World of Goo. I didn't put Mario Kart Wii there because it's unfair to other games being the best game of ALL TIME, and it's not just a game it's a whole lifestyle, plus it's kind of insulting to the game itself to be merely part of a list when it's so much more.
If you're a musician, guess what it's worthless because all of the concepts that make the game magical are commonplace for you.

If you aren't a musician or musically inclined the game teaches you the staples of music composition.

Knowing several musicians that love the game, and as someone who enjoys playing music myself, I have to disagree with this...And Ian likes Guitar Hero, so his idea of what a "music game" should be is obviously skewed...

Fair enough, I guess it's just been my experience that friends of mine who are "musicians" have felt the game was not very rewarding. So perhaps it isn't that easy to simplify, but bottom line, it isn't a bad game, nor is it really a game. But playing with a group of people is rewarding and in a similar way to how it is with Wii Sports.
It's rewarding if you're creative, period.

Also while I do enjoy the new Animal Crossing a lot, it's far from a good game, Nintendo barely even did development on it, it probably has LESS additions than the Play on Wii games, it still is one huge scam and a missed opportunity, thank god the game is flopping. The new graphics look very nice though, and I guess that's a big part of the game.

Disappointment has to be Brawl, just not that fun to play. There's worse games but I was excited about Brawl.
