Nintendo Gaming / RE:It's all coming together... Wii Phone
« on: May 24, 2006, 02:45:44 PM »
Yes, but can the wii-mote make me coffee?  Until it has that feature, and includes a kitchen sink, Nintendo has not gone far enough!  For if the system runs 24 hours a day, it should enable the system owner to run 24 hours a day as well!

On a more realistic level, Nintendo would be hesitant to do this, because while it does let the older gamers (myself included) use VoIP, it also might give access to kids and then you're going to have CNN reporting that pedophiles are buying Wii's to stalk kids.  It just goes downhill from there.  Of course, no one will blame the parents who could probably lock out the feature, because no one ever blames the parents.

Can Nintendo turn the Wii into a VoIP phone? Yes.  Will they?  Eh, who knows.

Here's to hoping for a lawsuit.  C'mon Nintendo, find some patent infringement and delay the PS3 launch by a couple of years while it sits in court.  I'm not normally a huge fan of lawsuits, but come on, Sony deserves this.  Such blatant disrespect and theft of innovation.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution no more-Nintendo Wii
« on: April 27, 2006, 12:26:35 PM »
One overlooked factor ( i think, i was kinda scanning and skipping through the thread)

How much more humiliating will it be for the PS3/360 to get beaten by a console named Wii?

"Senior Sony Exec: I can't believe it, we got beaten by wii????"

The Good:  Its short, there are so many different marketing options/slogans available its ridiculous.  Look at all the ones that ya'll have made.  Its "modern" and "japanese-y" two things that are very big in the U.S right now, especially with gamers. The i's in Wii remind me of the iPod (and other mac devices) and you can't get any more trendy/popular than that.

The bad: In immature people (read: most guys) Wii denotes a phallus or urine depending on the context of the sentence.  This WILL make people laugh at Nintendo.  Can't you picture PS3/360 fanboys taunting us and telling us to go to our rooms and play with our wii's?  (or something to that affect)

Overall:  Definately a gutsy move on Nintendo's part.  The name is sure to get them all sorts of press coverage as well as 1,000's of discussions just like this one across the internet hoping that its a month-late April Fool's joke.  With the right marketing, amazing games, internet connectivity and ds networking (and the ability to poke fun at themselves) it really won't matter all that much.  To the nay-sayers who say that Nintendo's days are done, look at the DS.  Many people thought it was sparkling innovation-y, had worse graphics compared to the PS3/360 and more.   Now its outselling the PSP by as much as 6 to 1, has good marketing, good games, wifi (and OPERA!!).  Compare this to Wii vs. the rest.  Same story.  Worse graphics, "sparkling innovationy" and cheaper.

Nintendo is trying to repeat its DS success and is using the exact same plan and I think its going to work.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:List of Known Revolution games.
« on: April 21, 2006, 10:45:10 AM »
Now picture most of these as launch games. lol.  Nintendo has said that it expects like 6 or 7 first party titles to launch (or be in launch window) with revolution.

Oh, you're missing Miyamoto's new game, not based off of an existing franchise which I thought was supposed to also be a launch title.

Good decision Nintendo.  I am proud.

This game is the best DS game I've ever played, and I only played maybe 5 minutes of it.  It is that good.  I wish that Nintendo would at least give us an idea of when its coming out.

Let the waiting commence....

Nintendo Gaming / RE:That Antichrist Dude Loves Phoeniz Wright
« on: January 05, 2006, 04:13:15 PM »
I really hope that "Antichrist Dude" wasn't used negatively as it would offend my (lack of) religion.  Actually, I've seen interviews with Marilyn Manson and he's actually a normal guy who was smart enough to discover a niche market and exploit the hell out of it.

As far as not saying the whole name of the game, I think that it would sound too staged plus it would be out of character for him.  Can you really picture Marilyn Manson saying "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" and not have it sound like Nintendo paid him $$$$$$?  On the other hand, if he makes references to a lawyer game for the DS it not only keeps him in character, but provides enough information that a quick google search on DS + lawyer should return the full game name.

Of course, I really can't picture him playing Animal Crossing either....

oh well.  Those are my thoughts anyway.

Nintendo Gaming / Revolution Controller + "Action Pad"
« on: November 13, 2005, 01:31:08 PM »
I got mario ddr "action pad" the other day (I won it actually) and it hit me that it wasn't called a dance pad.  Then it got me to thinking.
There must be some cool way to combine a revolution controller with an "action pad" so that its not just your hands/arms contributing to on screen action but your feet as well. You could actually "walk" up to things and then use the controller as if it was a sword or something like that.

Am I totally insane or just partially crazy?

Anyone have any good ideas?

Nintendo Gaming / Friend Codes
« on: November 11, 2005, 08:52:33 AM »
This post is here to create a way for Mario Kart DS (and other wi-fi DS games) to add eachother to a friends list.

Therefore:
IF you wish to have people from Planetgamecube forums (and possibly other people?) add you to their friends list hit reply and put in your friend code below.

Remember: The DS only supports 30 some odd friends and it replaces friends at random after that amount has been reached.

For those who plan on buying animal crossing, remember that if a person is your friend, they can enter your town.  Fair warning.

-ABlueflame

P.S. I realize that the game has not yet been released but some lucky people (read: TYP) already have it.  I'll have my friend code posted on monday and then I will thrash you all!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Controlling Shooters on Revolution. A Thesis
« on: September 29, 2005, 03:13:25 PM »
Whats to stop FPS's from using the arcade idea of shooting off screen to reload?  Or maybe pointing the remote straight down or straight up?  Some simple movement could be to reload.

Other ideas:  If anyone has ever used mouse-gestures on the Opera or Firefox (personally, I use and love Opera) web browsers, you know that by holding a button down and performing a simple movement, moving right, moving down, moving down and then right, can act like very fast short cuts in web browsing.  There's no reason that this couldn't be done in games as well.  Hold a button down on the remote-like controller and move it in a certain direction to select menus, specific items, or set each direction as if it were a hotkey.  That would be great for strategy games.  Group your units with the pointer and then make a "controller-gesture" instead of using a precious button, to set them to that gesture.

I'm sure you all can think of many more ideas for doing something like this, it just hit me so I thought I'd throw it in there.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:200,000 Pre-Orders!?!?!? - Jump Superstars
« on: August 10, 2005, 03:47:42 AM »
I'm guessing that this thread has changed from a OMG TEH JUMP JUPERST4RZ pre-sold a butt load of games to more of a general thread about the game, therefore, with that assumption in mind, does anyone know what sort of reviews this game has gotten in Japan?  Famitsu scores?  I know IGN imported a copy and already put their hands on impressions up, they will do a review shortly.

oh, importers beware, this game seems to be difficult to understand without good knowledge of the Japanese language, kanji specifically.

No, I'm not seriously asking that question.  However, our infamous friend, SPoNG is reporting that "Where Do Babies Come From" is the title of the sequel to "Feel The Magic".  If this is truly the case, then Feel the Magic is continuing to produce new and bizarre things, just as it should.

Impressions of the name? Feelings about the first game?  Ideas for crazy mini-games?
Post them here!

Any word yet on Spaceworld?  If Nintendo was going to unveil Revolution, that would be a good time.  Another good time, I think, would be around the time that Zelda is released (Nov?).  It could be some sort of, "If you like this, look at what's coming from Nintendo next year..."  type of thing.  Some sort of Revolution dvd could be a nice pre-order bonus for buying Zelda.

Just my opinions though.  But didn't Nintendo say it would be sometime this year?  The Zelda launch, I think, would be most probable, if not sooner.  I doubt it would be any later.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nanostray: And now I understand...
« on: July 23, 2005, 10:21:09 AM »
I just got back from my EB in Winter Park, FL  and he said that EB isn't going to carry the game...ever.  Generally, most people who work for game stores are outright morons, however, the staff at this particular EB is outstanding.  When he (asst. manager) says that they aren't going to carry Nanostray, he means it.

Just a random thing, EB is still carrying Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but in order to buy it they have to get it from the back of the store, they aren't allowed to display it because of its AO rating, and they are carding people for it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Fact Only Thread: Rev Tech Specs
« on: July 19, 2005, 07:33:23 PM »
Uhm, BlackGriffen, have to disagree with you a bit there.

1. I used to own a P2 and there is no way in hell that it could play the games that are found on Gamecube, especially, but not limited to, RE4.

2.  The gamecube processor is based off of powerpc archetecture, meaning we're back to RISC vs. CISC.  Sure, IBM's may have larger numbers associated with them as far as mhz or ghz go, but a smaller numbered Mac will still beat the higher numbered PC all 7 days of the week.  Now, as not to compare apples to oranges, AMD processors also generally can be over 500mhz lower than a comproble pentium processor and still outperform the hell out of it.

The only other important thing that I think should be mentioned is that black and white numbers DO NOT tell you how good of graphics or how good of games the system will be able to play.  Case in point would be the PS2 which in theory is godly strong, but in actuality is such a pain in the ass to program for that getting 100% of the available power out of it is nearly impossible.  Meanwhile with other systems, it is possible to actually get close to using 100% of the system.

Oh, and after all the advertising and outright preaching Sony has done about the Cell processor, there's about zero percent chance that it will be found in Revolution, and thus is not a realistic option.  Which, may be good, as I hear that it too may be complicated to program for.

well, nuts.

I can still hope, can't I?

Plus, I have a friend who's going to be living in Japan for a year (or more?) teaching English there, so getting an import copy for me should be rather easy, should I choose to import.

Bill, was that a really bad pun?  "If all the cards play out well".  You do realize that cards play an integral role in Jump Superstars right?  Maybe its just the fact that its not even 9am yet and I'm at work.  I dunno.

In related news, other gaming sites, including this one, are predicting that Jump will not be coming over to the US.  How can a game that pre-sells 200,000+ copies and will in all likelyhood sell 3x that NOT come to the U.S.?

« on: July 18, 2005, 11:54:12 AM »
Howdy all,

If I had to guess, which I am about to, I would think that Jump Superstars would indeed make a U.S. appearance.  I think this because
1.) Most of the animes in it are/are going to be shown here.  Especially Naruto which starts this Fall and could be just as huge here as it is in Japan.
2.) So what if we don't know who all the characters are, who knew who Roy and Marth were when SSB:M came out?  This just allows for you to get excited about new characters and then buy games based on them when their respective TV shows appear over here.
3.)  It has 200,000 pre-orders.  Its going to rake in enough cash for them to be able to take a slight "risk" and spend a few months working on an English version.

I could be completely wrong, but we'll wait and see. I would think that if it does make a U.S. appearance, I would look for it in the spring or maybe even summer of '06.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Blizzard to develop for DS?
« on: July 18, 2005, 05:19:13 AM »
Personally, I found both Starcraft and Diablo II to be e-crack.  However, I would like to see Starcraft on DS more so than I would Diablo II.  I think that the multiplayer would be better suited to the DS as well as the graphics and overall gameplay.  I just cant see the DS as being strong enough to play D2 in high enough resolution, or with good enough graphics (to prevent massive amounts of death in Hell mode).  Starcraft should be much easier.  Brood wars, of course, would be a much needed inclusion, and maybe some new units...please Blizzard, pretty pretty please?

I think I've devoted 100's of hours to each of these games, and for a new caste in D2 or a few new units in Starcraft, I'd buy them in half a second for DS.

Nintendo Gaming / Blizzard to develop for DS?
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:42:16 PM »
Right now, Blizzard is polling its fans to try to find out if they would be supportive of Diablo 2 on DS/PSP as well as Starcraft on DS (no PSP for this one!).  I, for one, have put 100's of hours into each of these games, and if they appeared on DS using WiFi...it would/could be incredibly detrimental to, well, everything else in my life.

Here's a link to the story

What do ya'll think?
