Nintendo Gaming / RE:Killer 7 delayed... again
« on: July 19, 2005, 04:39:18 PM »
like i said before, the game is definately worth playing just to see the story unfold
spoilers ahoy - read only if you've finished the game

I really like how the story unfolded as you got to the end especially - especially in smile - when you go back into the building in philadelphia and see each seperate killing of the 'killer 7' - i can honestly say that garcian / emir is one of the better characters to be written into a game in a long time

the story definately took some odd turns towards the end as well.  the whole game i had a perception of what was going on but then BAM this crazy ending comes along and throws my ideas out the window.  to me, it almost seemed like there are 3 seperate harman smiths - old harman playing chess, the harman you (garcian / emir) killed and placed into the safe, and the young harman you meet towards the end - not quite sure what to think of each of those characters.  and what about kun lan????????????  is he iwazaru?  and what about dan smith...wasn't he killed by curtis or did curtis only kill one of garcian's personalities?  well capcom, you did it - you actually made a game that makes my WTF meter go crazier than after beating metal gear solid 2

i too have recently beat the game - i'd give it thumbs up and everyone should play it just to get a taste of the wacky gameplay and storyline of this game

by the way - someone should start a thread on the storyline to this game - i'd like to hear what others think of it and what they think of the game after the ending (the ending is nuts)

i will agree with mostly everyone else on this game that you might have to try it to see if you like it.

i got it and played through a bit and i do have to say that i like the game a whole lot.  its kinda odd at first that you hold a button to move, but since i got used to it, its not that bad.  the shooting in the game is pretty neat too as you have to hit the weak points on enemies - it not only gives you more blood to use, but also kills them in one hit.  and surprisingly the bosses in the game are actually pretty cool and fun to figure out how to kill them.

strange part about killer 7 for me is that i love the gameplay thus far.  many reviews have stated that the atmosphere and story are the main attractions here, and although they are for the most part, the gameplay is decently fun.  it might be because it is so different from anything else out there, but i am enjoying killer 7 just as much as any other good game out there.

but yeah for those out there still wondering if the game is worth a try, i'd say it definately is.  its not as bad as some of those low scores make it out to be and from what i have played so far, the story is pretty cool and the gameplay is decent.  - oh yeah, chosing hard mode at the begining eliminates a bunch of clues for some puzzles and makes combat harder as well

"Does anyone know how well this game playes on a DS?"

i got the game today and it plays perfectly fine on the ds - the trick is that the gyro sensors in the game only detect motion clockwise or counterclockwise, not up or down or what not

try it out - pick up your ds, and rotate it clockwise and counterclockwise in your hands - you don't tilt the system up or down, just rotate it - it feels comfortable and perfectly fine to me

and by the way this game completely rocks

edit - i just thought of another way to describe it - its like rotating a steering wheel - grab the ends of the ds and sort of 'steer' it back and forth - that's how most of the games work and its really fun

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Revolution a lost battle?
« on: May 18, 2005, 05:35:33 AM »
it could just be me, but i think nintendo i going in the right direction here- now don't get me wrong, i thought the e3 conference was lackluster to say the least (no controller or actual game footage shown) but nintendo gave away a lot of good details on their online plan and such

first of all, and it doesn't matter to everyone, but the rising costs of these new systems is crazy.  the ps3 is already rumored to be selling in japan when it is released for around 465 dollars, and that's just not an affordable price.  i know that the ps3 will come with all kinds of features, but i don't know if i would ever use all of these features.  blu-ray disks are an example - a good storage for sure, but it is not a mass market player or storage medium yet.  of course the ps2 launched with a dvd player and not many households had them back then.  but then again the ps2 wasn't almost 500 bucks at launch.

another problem is this focus on the hd era.  as much as i love high definition, i do not own an hd tv yet.  i know many people that do not.  this doesn't worry me as much for playing the games, but game costs are going to go up. i really don't have all this money to spend on these game systems, although some people do.

that's why i like where nintendo is taking the revolution.  its going to be cheaper.  its going to have nice next generation graphics, but it is not going to be over-powering.  developement on the revolution is going to be easy, like the gamecube's so it will feel 'similar' to developers.  plus this online plan that nintendo has going is great.  you can download old classics right to the system.  now i know that's not a huge thing for some people, but its no denying that playing old classics and new ones all on one system kicks total ass.  not only that, but its free online for all games unless third party games want to charge a fee.  also just because the developement will be simple for the revolution does not mean that the games will be 'simple.'  nintendo is making their console developer friendly so people with that 'big idea' can come and develope without spending rediculous costs on game developement.

there are many other things to talk about, like the sleekness and such, but remember - nintendo has yet to show off any footage of revolution games.  they have yet to show us any revolution games.  they haven't shown us the controler.  so there is still much to be revealed, which i can't wait for.

yeah paladin you're close to the end of the game
but yeah metal gear solid 3 is one of the best games i have ever played
the gameplay is even better with the camo % and all the little things added
the story is really good and its amazing to see how it all pulls together

but i think i was suprised at the presentation the most - especially the 'james bond' feel of the game - people that have played it have probably seen the little touches like a bond movie - the theme song for the game is nothing short of amazing and is probably the best made for videogame song ever - but yeah the only unfortunate part of the game for me is that it had to end - one of the best games of this generation (in my opinion)

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Astro Boy: Omega Factor
« on: September 05, 2004, 11:16:28 AM »
yeah astro boy is probably the best gba game to come out this year thus far- its just loads of fun (what do you expect from treasure) and the game is pretty deep- yeah its a little short, but there is so much to do- finding all the characters, powering up astro all the way, hell just getting the highest score in the levels- just so much fun- i cant wait for advance guardian heros now!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Pikmin 2
« on: September 02, 2004, 11:17:33 AM »
"I love the time limit in Pikmin and i'm a bit worried that removing the time limit in Pikmin 2 has taken out a major strategy element from the game... the time limit kept the game balanced."

thats the beauty of the new game- although there is no time limit in days, they still kept the sun timer so you must complete all of your tasks in the overworlds before nightfall- and if you are worried about loosing stategy dont- the new cave sections are the best parts of the game- you cant create new pikmin in the caves so you must carefully choose which pikmin to bring in- so if you go to a cave bringing only 10 red pikmin, thats all you will have through the entirety of the cave- also before you enter each cave an info bar appears showing which dangers lie ahead- so if you are worried about what pikmin to bring- dont- you just have to strategize and bring what you think is enough- say the bar highlighted the fire, water, and poison points- then you know to bring the corresponding pikmin- so you can beat the enemies and collect the treasure- also some caves house boss enemies so you better have enough pikmin to beat them or else you could be in trouble- as you could guess i love pikmin 2 and i say that the cave sections are the best parts of the game

also the lobster cover= best. cover art. ever.

General Gaming / RE:Fable: A Tale of Broken Promises
« on: August 30, 2004, 10:45:45 AM »
this game will most likely be a very very good game but unfortunately it was way way too hyped- at first it seemed you could have total freedom, certain decisions would change the story drastically and take you on a new path, a living growing world as you grow, ect... but some of those expectations never were fully realized- the game has around 40 quests, most of which are story centered- you cant change the story due to your actions anymore, but the way your character grows depending on how you play is still reason enough to play the game i would imagine- its cool how you can use magic only, and you age faster or if you use stealth, you become a more lean theif type character, and you grow bigger and stronger for the weapons you use- it is an interesting game, one that will be very good, but unfortunately too much hype over shaddowed what the game presents- its unfortunate that most will judge it on what it was hyped to be rather than what it is

from what i have heard the gameplay is very good- it feels good and the game runs smoothly- as i have said above you can play through the game any way you like- swords swinging, long range bow and arrows, or even magic- and each has effects on your body- unfortunately real time aging is not in this game (as i think was promised) but instead you age through chapters- depending on what you did in a previous chapter has effects on your character- mostly physical which is pretty cool- the game seems good but we will see

sega's hitmaker and treasure's astro boy for gba is one of the best games on the system period

General Gaming / RE:Shenmue MMO coming
« on: August 26, 2004, 05:16:31 AM »
"They're going to need more than a Shenmue 3 to finish the story."

i got this quote from the shenmue dojo-  http://www.planetxbox.com/shenmuedojo/shenmue3_preview.shtml

"The storty is completed. The problem is we have not decided whether or not to move foreward with designing the game yet. If there's a demand for it, we'd love to make it, but it is undecided" ~Yu Suzuki~

Seeing how the story is completed this backs ups his previous statements about finishing the series with a third game. In a Techtv interview he said the series would span with "3 installments" and in the Japanese magazine Dorimaga he said once Shenmue 3 was given the go ahead the rest of the 16 chapters would be included. All this hints at one thing and that is Shenmue 3 could very well conclude the saga of Shenmue."

and this one comes from Dorimaga-

"Dorimaga also asked Sega-AM2's Yu Suzuki whether Shenmue 3 is going to happen. He said that development could begin immediately were Sega to give the project the go-ahead. If it were to happen, the remaining 16 chapters of the game would be included."

of course i agree with you though- i would not want them to cram the last ten chapters in at once in a single game, but if push comes to shove and its the only way to get my shenmue fix, i'll take it

General Gaming / RE:Shenmue MMO coming
« on: August 22, 2004, 07:03:55 PM »
i loved the first shenmue- it was one of the only dreamcast games i played through over and over (the other being grandia 2)- the first one was more of an adventure type game where you ask a lot of questions, get answers- but you didnt really fight until the final disk (disk 3)- disk 3 was great- but i liked the game a lot- it was so different to actually play shenmue than a regular game- so that drew me in right away

shenmue 2 is just as great, but for different reasons- they added a few different things so you didnt always have to start out at the same place in the mornings (you could jump with an option, but it takes time off the day), you could wait if you had to (say to meet someone at a diner at 7, you could go to the diner and choose wait and the clock would run up all the way to 7) and because of that the pace of shenmue 2 was quickened. but that does not mean it was a shorter game than shenmue- it had a huge land to explore- i would say roughly 1.5- 2 times as big as shenmue- and the gameplay was just the same, just more of what most people wanted- more free fights, more qte's (which are plentiful)

but on a whole the gameplay is exactly the same- aside from those few changes i highlighted above- so i figure that most people like the on your toes action of the qte's and the free fights than the exploring and questioning- and because shenmue 2 has all of that, it appeals to different people- personally i love both games- and you cant go wrong with either of them in my opinion- i just hope there is a real shenmue 3 to finish the story

"Custer's Revenge. Need I say more?"

you know i always wanted a game about general custard coming back from the dead to sexually assault native americans.......

i always hated friday the 13th for the nes- what a terrible game that was....
of course superman ranks up there as one of the worst games ever- although i will admit i had fun with it finding all of the bugs and constantly flying through streets and walls- it is quite comical

and from what i have heard drake of the 99 dragons is the worst game this generation of consoles

General Chat / RE:Game Soundtracks?
« on: August 22, 2004, 09:20:19 AM »
personally i always loved rpg soundtracks- my personal favorite soundtrack would have to be the valkyrie profile soundtrack- very very good- one of the best in my opinion for any game or rpg- the music was written by motoi sakuraba- he has also made the star ocean soundtracks as well and the golden sun music for gba- (which is great also)

other personal favorites are the breath of fire dragon quarter soundtrack and i loved the star ocean 2 soundtrack as well- grandia 2's soundtrack was very good as well

most of my favorite soundtracks are rpg ones- www.rpgfan.com  has a section dedicated to soundtracks- they also put some songs up there- some of the music is good, some not that great- you should go there if you like rpg soundtracks or videogame soundtracks at all
