TalkBack / RE: Minnesota Video Game Law Overturned

to explain the confusion with my last post...when i say i take back everything, i'm refering to my first post that defended the law. the law was dumb, but i still don't think it was unconstitutional.

I take back everything I said. And I was kidding about being a constitutional scholar. I didn’t bother reading the first sentence of the story. If the law had been fining retailers, it would have been different, but fining the people who buy the game is dumb.

As for it being unconstitutional, I still think its kind of shaky. Minors have not reached the age of consent, and that is why there are a lot of limits on what minors can do/buy. Our judicial system distinguishes between adults and minors in most instances (sentencing, alcohol, curfews, driving, etc.)

If you want to protect the constitution, worry about the 2nd amendment, not the 1st. The US has just about the most liberal free speech laws in the world...almost to a fault. You can say anything about anyone, and it’s almost impossible to prove libel or slander. For instance, some books have to be edited from the US to UK versions for legal liability reasons (UK has much stricter laws on libel).

The US produces more "garbage" (if it’s ok for me to call it that) than any other nation.
Anyways I'm babbling about nothing. Just remember, a bad/dumb/poorly thought-out law is different from an unconstitutional one.

as a constitutional scholar, let me say that this is a bad decision. minors do not have a constitutional right to buy explicit material. you can be against the law and against this ruling.

18 Days: why are you so dumb?

um if you dont know if bush graduate from yale and harvard....i think YOU better learn to be able to read before you talk about the president being dumb...there is no debate about whether or not he graduated. yes naive isnt in the dictionary....look it up man. its right underneath grassy noll

sorry to inform you folks, bush's iq is in the 95 percentile based on his SAT and military aptitude scores. this is hard for many to understand, but just because you don’t agree with someone, DOESNT MAKE THEM STUPID...hard to believe, i know. also, believe it or not, someone with a degree from Yale and Harvard might know more about economics than graduate from high school before you open your mouths.

General Gaming / RE: PS3 repeating history?

i think microsoft is taking over for this generation. you could kind of see it towards the end of this generation. nintendo will still have its niche  market and will make a good profit. sony...i'm not so sure. this article brought up a lot of things i hadnt really thought about. it looks like they could have a tough time. especially if the price stays that high.

General Gaming / PS3 repeating history?
« on: June 08, 2006, 07:27:06 PM »
according to an article that appeared here and here, by using blu-ray technology in the ps3, sony may be repeating the same mistakes they made with betamex, mini-discs, and the memory stick. i am not sure whether to consider this a possibility because i'm not sure of the details. is sony not allowing other companies to produce technology that utilizes ble-ray? if so, i could see the authors point.

"Obsessed with owning proprietary formats, Sony keeps picking fights. It keeps losing. And yet it keeps coming back for more, convinced that all it needs to do is push a bigger stack of chips to the center of the table. If Blu-ray fails, it will be the biggest home-electronics failure since Betamax. If it drags PlayStation 3 down with it, it will be one of the biggest corporate blunders of our time."

any thoughts?

i was kind of joking when i said that...thats why i was laughing. i think the people that will have the biggest problem with the controller are the people playing the game.

also, lets say the shell isnt avalible with the controller and a dev just cant find a good layout for the could potentially have a situation where a game is nearly unplayable with the standard controller.

well i just hope the shells are sold with the controllers, and not seprately.

i was reading some of this thread and someone mentioned "barriers" for developers to make games for nintendos console. the biggest barriers are costs, not controller stylye. also, if this controller had been an extra that was sold seperatly for the cube, only the elite game player would have purchased it. i think thats pretty safe to say. normal people dont want to try different things in video games. only people that spend a lot of money on games would do that.

if they dont make some modifications, the rev may bite the dust from this decision.

i think they should replace the dpad with a joy stick, and put the dpad on the bottom with 4 buttons so you can play it sideways....seriously i dont get the current design at all. if you thought nintendo didnt get enough  3rd party support for the cube, just wait until the developers have to figure out how to adapt their games to this controller...hahahha.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A more "traditionally designed" controller for Rev?

i just think this is unnecessarily innovative. adding the tilt function is cool, but having such a dramatically different controller will only chase away the traditional gamer...which is an video game companies base. i will most likely still get a rev. i hope its awesome, and i hope my initial reaction to this controlelr is wrong and short sighted, but...i think this is a bad move....unless they add more buttons.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A more "traditionally designed" controller for Rev?
« on: September 16, 2005, 08:07:12 AM »
i understand all that, but i think this would be hard for certain games...especially any game where you need to do quick combos or hit multible buttons at the same time. i would still like to see more than one button at the top of the controller.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A more "traditionally designed" controller for Rev?
« on: September 16, 2005, 07:46:36 AM »
i hope there is a more tradition controller. i like the 4 button system, and i dont think the new more complicated games can get by on 2 buttons...what is nintendo thinking.

it will launch with the rev

seriously, what is the deal with all this anti-nintendo business practice. money is supposed to run businesses, but it doesnt seem to be the case with companies dealing with nintendo...

i just dont get it
