If that was true, I'll eat my hat.

Love it, a state of the art gaming machine at a LOW price that's going allow developers/publishers no royalities fee, sure and the damn thing prints MONEY to boot.

Another 3D0 in the works or an early april's fools day joke.

Fixed.

This sounds like a traditional Microsoft play done by Valve.

Microsoft historically did Certification programs.  Take Phone 7 as a recent example.  Develop clear minimum specs and input guidelines and have someone else actually make the hardware.

I can see computers starting to show up with Steam Certification.  Which means the meet or exceed the minimum specs set by Valve.  This will help PC game developers point toward a common standard.

Something like this will be all about the User Interface.  Why would I want to use this Steam Box instead of a PC?

That is the ultimate question they need to answer and UI will be how they answer that. Most PC games in general just need the inputs that the PC offer.  I only see this having Middling success.

A Steam Handheld would be more interesting.

You could say the same thing about any game system. Why have a game system at all when a PC plays games just fine? Hey, people are using that same argument regarding the "handhelds vs smartphones" debate.

In my opinion, the main reason to own a console is for the 1st-party games and other exclusive titles. A Valve console most likely wouldn't have any exclusive games, since Valve puts their games on pretty much every device that can play them.

Wouldn't it be a conflict of interest for Valve to support game consoles and their own Steam service?

If Nintendo doesn't have the confidence to publish The Last Story in America, then why should we trust them with any other game they help develop? Yes Nintendo co-developed TLS with Mistwalker, making it a 1st-party IP.

NBC is in shambles right now. The AV Club posted an article recently about how NBC's ratings were tied with that of Univision. I didn't even know what network Univision was before reading the article. It doesn't matter what they're airing, people are avoiding NBC like rancid dog poop. Meanwhile, CBS is doing so good that the fucking Rob Schneider sitcom is getting 12 million viewers a week, (trouncing the also solid Parks and Rec in the same timeslot) and I don't hear ANYONE arguing that that is any good.

Before writing off the quality of CBS as a whole, I have heard from people I trust and critics that The Good Wife is one of the best shows on TV right now, it just has a terribly unappealing title. Like, I've heard serious comparisons to The Wire and Breaking Bad. I haven't seen it, can anyone confirm/deny?

I haven't watched TV in months. I don't have cable, and I don't have an antenna hokked up to my TV (so no broadcast stations).

So let me get this straight... NBC is a disaster, while CBS is doing very well. Where does that leave ABC and Fox?

All I ask of from the Wii U is that it have enough software support that it can be my one and only console.

I dunno.  Can you be a hard-core gamer and get by with only one system now?

If you get a 360, you miss out on PS3 titles like God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear, Infamous, Gran Turismo... etc.

If you get a PS3, you miss out on Halo, Gears of War, Fable and the robust online multiplayer offered by XBox live.

Meanwhile, either way, you miss out on all the first party Nintendo games.

A truly hard-core gamer would *need* all three systems.

There we go again, using that "hardcore / core gamer" terminology. It's worse than when people used the terms "kiddy" and "mature" last gen. A gamer is a gamer, end of story.

Also, prior to getting my PS3 a few months ago, I used to be a single-console owner for most of my life. I've been gaming since 1990 when I got my NES (I'm 27 now).

Either way, the Wii U should be a hackers dream.

Not this talk again. Isn't it against the forum rules to talk about hacking and / or piracy?

Piracy, yes, or at least nothing specific. Hacking, no. There's a difference, and there are some really good legal reasons to install homebrew on Wiis. DKCR is just so much better with a Classic Controller. Granted, knowing Stogi, that's probably not what he's talking about, but he's not breaking any rules at the moment.

But hacking can (and oftentimes does) lead to piracy, it's just so tempting for some. Once you crack the OS code, you can do anything with it, including installing *free* games. But whatever, if that's what some people want to do, then it's their business.

/end rant

I wish Nintendo would put out Wii U controller prototypes for the public to feel because it's damn comfortable despite what it may look like.

Are you the same MegaByte from TMK (www.themushroomkingdom.net)?

The system will be launching less than six months after the event; if there aren't real game demos there, and a lot of them, Nintendo fucked it up big time.

You really think Nintendo would launch the Wii U without any real games? Remember when the Wii was first revealed at E3 2005? There weren't any real game demos shown, just tech demos. The good stuff didn't come until E3 2006.

It's the same situation with the Wii U. All the big games will be shown at E3 2012 and possibly at Nintendo's Fall conference. I guarantee NSMB Mii will be a real game, and Battle Mii / Chase Mii might be part of a launch compilation.

For a guy who runs a Nintendo fansite, you sure have a lot of pessimism and negativity regarding Nintendo.

Too late..

I'm glad driving is back. Now if they only let me hit the switch on my C4 trap while i'm driving..

So looking forward to FarCry 3, I downloaded FC2 a few days ago on PSN. Hopefully the level editor is easier to use this time.

Do you realise how big those X Factor/American Idol/reality BS shows are?

Televised singing / dancing / talent contests are not reality shows.

Would you call Deal or No Deal, Wheel of Fortune, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Jeopardy, The Price is Right, etc. reality shows?

Shows like Jersey Shore, Cake Boss, Hogan Knows Best, COPS, etc. are reality shows. In fact, I consider COPS to be the first true reality show, since it's real police officers on pursuit of real criminals, with a few cameramen filming the footage.

And I'd even go so far as to call America's Funniest Videos a reality show, since it's all about user-submitted tapes.
