Actual rumor: Nintendo and partners taking steps to cut off system flippers?

First sign: Our own Andy Goergen has this experience when he goes to preorder:

GS told me today that they couldn't guarantee a Wii U on Day 1 for me, and that priority would be given to customers with more pre-orders.

Then I was told that more preorders got me higher priority in the queue.  I preordered NSMBU and LEGO City Undercover.

When I pressed them why preorders should matter, they said something about wanting to be sure I was a serious customer.

I asked about flippers...

If this means they're telling the eBay flippers to jump off a cliff, I approve.

And got this response...

He specifically cited that as a reason as well.

Now tonight, a post on another prominent internet messageboard...

  It's a rumor I've heard from two sources now and one of those sources is a friend who works for Ebay. He said that internally there are serious talks of deterring resales of Wii U, which, in the past, has led to unhappy customers acting out and fake-bidding to sabotage auctions. Apparently there will be some screening/checks in place when it comes to listing the Wii U in the launch window and possibly a waiting period of 2 weeks to list the system when it releases.
 
 Seems a little harsh but Considering some of the backlashes from last gen it makes sense. I wonder if Nintendo could have possibly had a hand in that.

Has anyone else gotten this treatment when pre-ordering?

Pre-ordered from best buy with no such requirements.  I can see how Ebay would be getting on this, people using their service to flip systems is bad for their image.  However, from the sound of it I would bet that Gamestop is just trying to get more pre-orders by telling customers they're "not guaranteed" a system, playing on the concerns about sellout, and on parent's fears of ruining little Johny's christmas by not getting the hot item.  GS probably doesn't care that much about what happens to the system after it's been payed for.

Playing in Khush's scifi game reminded that the reason I stopped playing was that I just don't have as much time anymore.  However, my semester is over so if someone were inclined to start a game then this old vet may consider joining.

Hello everyone,

If you are receiving this message, it means that I recently removed you from my Wii's Address Book.  I assure you that this is nothing personal and merely is due to the fact that I do not post regularly here, and as such, do not feel the need to keep inactive persons on my list, which was at full capacity.  Since I am more of a regular over at Cheapassgamer.com, I have devoted my list to people from there, and have made the decision to clean house from this end with my NWR contacts.

Again, this is nothing personal, and chances are you shouldn't be attached to my name at all anyway since I'm not around here :p.

Anyway, I somewhat doubt I'll even be checking my messages within the next few days, so there's no need to reply to this.

For the record, NWR is a great place with some great people, and I hope Nintendo rectifies some of the online issues so that maybe I won't have to resort to this kind of thing in the future.

Some names that I removed from my list were not showing up as I typed them into the "To:" field, so I don't know if those members are banned/removed/inactive/changed their names, etc.  For the record, those persons were Prof666, PartyBear, and damaan64.  Those aren't members at CAG as far as I know, nor are they personal friends, so if those sound like NWR members, a mod or something else can feel free to pass the information onto them if required.

Again, this is a great community, but I'm not a part of it except for the extremely rare times I come here to rant, so I just want to make this as easy for everyone as possible.  Thanks!

touche! Both you and thatguy have told me that my avatar is too large, I kno I shrinked it, and from where I'm looking at it its fine, maybe photobucket didnt refresh it or something, I'm gonna try resaving it and seeing what happens.

Yeah, I kno I just disappeared out of the blue, sorry bout that.  I just started to get a little worn out and took a break for a while.  So yesterday i came just for a peek, and I saw that I was just in time to sign up for a khush hosted mafia, so why not put the mafia hat back on.

Anyway, So that I do not arouse suspicion later on, I'm sure you guys are still doing "townie alliances."  or whatever you youngin's call 'em these days.  Anyway I'm gonna take this chance before the roles are handed out to tell you noobs not to immediately suspect me when I do not give up my role.  If you want me to give up my role you will have to work very very very hard to earn my trust first. This prevents me from telling my good role to the mafia, or makes it sound plausible if I am lying to the townies.

In other words.  Get used to these words "I am a townie." Khush could attest to this.
