I've wanted a Macbook for years but I will not buy a laptop without a touchscreen. It's far too useful.

So Sakurai has now murdered the entire cast but Kirby. I guess I'm okay with that.

Holy! Considering what hammorrhoid said here and what Stogi said about the direction Zelda should take, it's pretty clear that Nintendo has an inside man here and they're stealing our ideas! But which user is the forum traitor?

Wait when/where did I do that?

I hope there's a bit on Metroid and Pikmin, or even the Starfox Racer. But who knows?

I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but apparently Pokemon Switch is being announced right now in Japan Land.

If you want to be spoiled, click here.

EDIT: Well this **** is official everywhere.

EDIT2: Trailers incoming

I hate to bring it up, but with the recent hardware exploit and subsequent hack of the Switch, Nintendo is on a short leash when it comes to bringing a service people want to pay for. The alternative is already pretty appealing.

Furthermore, Nintendo is already in a bind regarding their Nindie developers. The lack of ports and old classics has given developers an exciting environment to develop for. The switch is already one of the best places to sell low-budget games and the lack of competition from Nintendo is one of the main reasons. If they unleash a tsunami of VC games, developers may pull support for more fertile grounds.

So to recap, Nintendo is in a tough spot between supporting developers and supporting gamers.

Nice preview. It's good to hear the gyro controls work well. It's one of the few talked about aspects of the Switch.

Uh...Isn't this kinda like the DS line? Hasn't it already proven to be successful?

If both screens become indistinguishable as one, there's a huge opportunity here.

I have thought of a foldable portable computing device for like 25 years...

I'm with you. My version was an electronic book. You'd take it to class with you and it contains all your books.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Holy crap! DOOM and Wolfenstein on Switch!

Nintendo has done a good job at front loading the Switch lineup with some killer games but really this concept is why the Switch is selling so well.  Yeah Wolfenstein on the PS4 is probably going to have a better textures and a better framerate but you're tethered to your living room in a world where no one can leave the house without carrying a glorified computer in their pocket.  You can take the Switch version with you anywhere just like you can with every other piece of software or digital media.  For someone that wants the portability the Switch version of multiplatform games is automatically the one to buy.  When was the last time a Nintendo console was in that position?  The fuckin' SNES?!

This also puts Nintendo in a great position in the future as well.  With Microsoft and Sony fighting over who has the most powerful specs, how exactly are they going to still balance that while trying to compete with Nintendo now?  How much would a hybrid PS4 or Xbox One have costed at launch?  How powerful can Sony make the PS5 if they want to give the most cutting edge specs but allow for a portable hybrid that's still affordable.

Nintendo has basically created a system that is a win-win no matter what.  Either Microsoft and Sony sacrifice power to release affordable hybrids next gen, which makes it easier for Nintendo to continue receiving third party support, or they continue release more powerful home console only devices, that just gives Nintendo a monopoly over the hybrid market and continues receiving third party support anyway because there's a huge market for what Nintendo's offering.

Ehh...I have a feeling OEM's will release multiple versions of the same console (portable vs more powerful) sometime down the line that are all capable of playing the same game.

Nintendo Gaming / Will the next Switch iteration have 3DS bc?
« on: June 08, 2017, 05:30:29 PM »
The 3DS is still selling well and with it's latest version, the new 2DS, I expect those sales to continue for a couple more years.

In a couple years, the Switch could be due for a slight upgrade; mainly to make it more portable, ie better battery life, and maybe an updated look. If they make it more portable, however, this really could impede on their 3DS sales and instead of updating that handheld to its next generation, it seems highly likely that they'd combine systems, especially if the Switch sells as well as it has for two years straight.

So what I'm asking, are they likely to provide backwards compatibility to the Switch or simply drop it?

Between Xenoblade, Monster Hunter, Splatoon 2 and Mario, I'd say Nintendo are really showing us what the Switch is capable of.

That new 2DS is also a stunner. I'd expect the revamp to last a couple years until the Switch gets its own.

Edit: that was strictly hypothetical

Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last movie you've seen

I'm talking about the live action movie.

I looked up the plot of the original and it couldn't be more different. It's strange. Why would they change the best part about the movie yet include shot for shot remakes of the action scenes? It's a weird decision.

If you haven't seen the original, I suggest you see it. It still holds up today and the plot doesn't treat you like a child.

Did they change the plot of the story? I don't remember it being about a conspiracy. I had thought it was an AI finding Major because of their similarities. Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly.

Anyway, I didn't like it. Simply put, it was boring. Clint Mansell, the soundtrack artist, and whoever was the DP are the only reasons to check out this movie. It's gorgeous visually and audibly, but the original has a better story, pacing, action, dialogue, and characters.

There is one addition I did like. It's Major hiring a prostitute. I thought it was a clever way to show her disconnect to humans. If that scene and the OST were transposed into the original film, it'd be the perfect version to watch.

I actually really appreciate the human races' tenacity to fulfil all plausible ideas. If Isaac Newton were hit by a meteorite before he wrote his laws of physics, they would have still been written, but by someone else.

TalkBack / Re: Brothers In Arms: The 3DS and Switch in 2017

The smaller Switch that most of us expect to be the first post-3DS mobile (Switchmo?) will be more attractive for a double-dip if it has backwards compatibility with 3DS.

And Nintendo actually considered giving the 3DS two game card slots, so I'm sure it isn't too far of a stretch to have a highly portable system which has a 3DS card slot and a Switch card slot.

It could probably maintain parity with the standard Switch graphics-wise if it removed the burden of the system switching to console/TV mode.

But the 3DS has two screens...You could emulate the 3DS on the wider/higher resolution Switch screen, but the images would be side by side instead of vertical.

So that journalist was right.

GG, Mafia. I only suspected two of you.

That said, it was another day 1 bulls-eye. That's four times in a row! And Khush's day 1 intuition was spot on as well. If the townies followed any one of us, this game would have been different.

We were screwed after the death of both the doctor and investigator, and it didn't help that Stratos was working with the mafia. You guys pulled off a great win.
