What places are even doing preorders?
A bit difficult to determine for me.

I'm sincerely considering mostly digital for Switch 2.  In middle age I have less patience for storage & things filling up my home.  The Switch 2 itself probably won't have that big a footprint, but that coupled with the rest of my gaming pile is kind of an eyesore.  Maybe it'll make me less prone to impulse buying full price games if I know there's no return policy.

I'm fortunate enough to have a library that stocks games too, so that'd be a supplementary resource for me.

Glad the price didn't increase. I'm not excited for the Switch 2 so I have no idea what is compelling me to preorder one, but that's my plan. Maybe I'm just a fanboy after all?  In general I think we've been paying decent prices for games for a long while now and even me being the frugal sun of a gun I am I don't think the price increase is exactly unfair.

What time during the day do these pre-orders start? Is it 12:01 AM or around when businesses open on the east coast?

I can’t blame anyone for not wanting to pay these game prices. I don’t pay that. Granted, I’ve spent $80+ on some retro games. However, those go up in price; current games eventually drop. For example, I bought Tears of the Kingdom for ~$52 in July 2023, about two months after release. Spend what you feel comfortable spending and don’t spend a penny more. It isn’t as if Mario Kart World is going anywhere.

My plans haven’t changed. I intend to snag Switch 2 at launch. I’ve already set aside money for it, and Mario Kart World is cheaper in the bundle. With everything in flux, I want to get the console itself ASAP. Sony just increased PS5’s price in a bunch of regions this week so there’s a real possibility Nintendo eventually follows suit. Digital downloads wouldn’t be subject to tariffs though I’m skeptical Nintendo will adjust the pricing accordingly.

I’ll probably get a Switch 2 Pro Controller though I believe Switch 1 Pro Controllers are backwards compatible, and I’ve only used one of mine to pair and update so it’s practically new. The Switch 2 Camera is gonna be a no from me, dawg.

Nintendo of Canada's website confirms the April 24th date.  It also has what I'm pretty sure are the first confirmed prices.  Games are $100-110.  Yeah right.  I'm not going to buy any game at full price at that amount.

But the really lousy part of it is that is going to destroy some Canadian stores I've been a customer of for years, in some cases decades.  The Switch was a big seller for them and now it's being followed up with a ridiculous price hike.  In the US Donkey Kong is 10 bucks more than a normal Switch game.  In Canada it's 20.  I don't think I've ever seen game prices increase by such a large margin in Canada.  That's going to turn some people off and the lowest earning owners of the current Switch are going to just get cut out entirely.

Adding to the mix is a wild localization from a team that originally chose to include ‘90s American pop culture references such as Austin Powers jokes into a Japanese game. It’s a community fan favorite.
Darn, this is a big miss for me as I generally don't like Working Designs' translations. Some of the changes are innocuous like making a random villager in Alundra into a surfer dude. Corny but fine, I guess. Then, there are far worse instances like attempts at humor that are really off-putting as well as certain choices that recontextualize the original intent.

Maybe I'm yelling at clouds. I'd rather have a closer translation. For that reason, I was looking forward to Lunar Remastered Collection. I may have simply missed the train on Working Designs since I didn't play its published games until well after the 1990s. At least Lunar: Silver Star Harmony has a new translation. Unfortunately, Eternal Blue never got a similar remake.

Beyond that...

I would have even loved to see the Collection expanded with the other versions of the games and offshoots like Silver Star Harmony, Silver Star Complete, Lunar Legend, All The Lunar: Hyper Applications, Lunar: Sanposuru Gakuen, and Lunar Dragon Song, just to make this the definitive compilation.
...feels like a major missed opportunity and is perhaps not in the spirit of such a collection. This was probably the last best chance to get an official translation of Mahō Gakuen Lunar! AKA Magic School Lunar! (though I read it isn't very good) and/or fix Lunar: Dragon Song. Oh well.

TalkBack / Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Announced for Switch 2

Honestly, it's been awhile since a game trailer made me smile so much and laugh a bit while watching it. Before the title reveal, I felt the game should be called Donkey Kong: Force of Destruction based on what was being shown. I'll admit that I'm still thrown off by the new DK look and, with all the different enemies and art style, part of me wonders if this could have been a new franchise instead but I can get over that from how wild this game looks to be with almost everything seemingly destructible. I was just sort of expecting the usual for Mario Kart but it also blew me away by taking it into an open world style format. With that and DK, Switch 2 looks to already have some bangers. And it feels like Nintendo is still keeping some games under wraps because they've got to have more Switch 2 games for the latter half of the year than just Switch 1 game add-ons. Curious to see what they might have that could top DK for the holiday season when it looks this good.
