Hold off on the download of the MP3.  The FTP server is being a jerk.

Edit: Okay it's fine now.

I'd definately recommend Zack n Wikki for your GF/Wife as well!  My wife hated games until Zach n Wikki arrived.  Once she got her hands on it, we played the entire thing together, oftentimes w/ her asking starting it up.  It was a lot of fun, and now she's even growing an addiction to Mario Kart Wii, Professor Layton, and Word Coach!  Thanks Capcom!

Nothing like stereotypes on what a girlfriend or wife will like in gaming.

Girls have their magazines that say what guys like in bed.

It's a generalization that makes for good tips to see what their man may like.  So they can avoid more awkward experimenting.

Not too much. Now that school's out for the summer, I've been doing some contract editing for this media company out of LA. I'm not pulling down anything grand, but it puts a little more scratch in my pocket than otherwise. I'm working on something journalism-related as well.

And don't act so surprised. I still pop in here every now and then. Haven't forgotten about you jokers just yet. I was just talking to James the other day about the 100th episode, actually.

Oh, and before I forget, if you're coming to PAX, be sure to drop me a line. I'll be there with Obi, and last I checked Burchfield was gonna show up as well. Should be fun times.

YES, love the shout out to Zack McCracken and the Alien Mind Benders! My first true adventure game back in the DOS days, seriously an awesome game.

I expect to hear Karl and Mike on Episode 100 no questions asked!

Yeah - I loved Zak McKracken!  The thing I remember most about about it was the Hare Krishna dude in the airport handing out pamphlets and doing the crazy spinny dance.

Another game I forgot to bring up that I really really loved was a sequel to Maniac Mansion - Day of the Tentacle!  It had a time travel component to the game that was really well implemented and fun.  Now THAT would be a great first adventure game for someone new to the genre; I highly recommend it to you noobs out there!  Ah, memories.  I miss my Amiga!

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Indeed, one of Tim Schafer's many classics. Grim Fandango is also amazing, I highly recommend it. Just go on Wikipedia and find anything that guy was a part of and there is a 100% guarantee that it is awesome.

The guy from wiinintendo.net posted a link to the show and stated "Kevin recounts his lengthy history with the genre, and we all discuss the future of Adventure games on Wii."  Is that a typo or is he a part of the show?

The text in their article is lifted directly from the NWR article about this episode... i.e. exactly what it says at the top of this Talkback thread.  Yes, my friend Kevin is a part of this episode.  By the way, he is DrStiles on the forums (see his post above).

Yeah, I forgot about Grim Fandango too - very awesome.  This is also one of the most critically acclaimed point-and-click adventure games ever made, for good reason.  I actually did search Tim Schafer on wikipedia - now I'm even more interested in Psychonauts now that I know he was a part in it!  Thanks Nick

Great podcast, it kept me company on the trip to my Parent's home today.

I liked the adventure game retrospective, I cut my teeth on text adventures back in the late eighties. I remember one of the first games I got for my Tandy PC was a sample diskette from the back of Computer Games and Video Entertainment magazine for about $6. It came in a hand written brown envelope from Scott Miller and Included his game Kingdom of Kroz (an anagram of Zork.)
Little did I know that this was birth of episodic gaming content and the introduction of shareware games (we call them demos now.) Of course Scott Miller went on to publish Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D which gave iD software there start and is currently co-owner of 3D Realms.

I notice you left out the multiple adventure games available for the DS, I hope this becomes a topic of a future episode.

Oh and Karl, I'm going to PAX again this year, hope to see you there.
