Massive Damage on the DS, Courtesy Atlus

Even the upcoming RPG Contact is making fun of Sony's E3 press conference.

Games blogger and 1up staffer Jeremy Parish recently received a review copy of the ostentatious DS RPG Contact from Atlus, and was surprised to find this:

MASSIVE DAMAGE

It may be a low blow by Atlus' localization staff, and its certainly a joke that only internet-savvy gamers would understand, but it fits the game's tongue-in-cheek self-referential style seen at E3. Atlus is apparently going for high art in execution while still keeping things light and fresh, which will keep the Earthbound comparisons rolling until people actually play the game.

I beleive all games should have GIANT ENEMY CRABS within them.  It should be mandated as law.  I don't care if this creates delays.
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

Is this really a joke, or just a coincidence?  He could be telling the main character the obvious - and it's not uncommon in games - to hit one's weak point for MASSIVE DAMAGE.

If, however, it was while fighting a GIANT ENEMY CRAB, then we could be more sure.  Not sure how you could fit the IT'S RIDGE RACER in there, but if it has REAL-TIME WEAPON CHANGE they should mention that too.

Now I remember.  lol.  Parody games are fun.  Especially when they sneak into places you didn't think they be.  (Like the Rangers in Super Mario RPG)

Only if the doctor is now called "Dr. Ken".

I laughed as much as I did when I saw the load screen from Gundam Annihilation that says in the game hints section "RIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!"

It's funny.

The PS3 is turning out to be the joke that I was initially afraid "Wii" would become.

Can anyone think of a game that is based on a game, i.e. u play as a character that plays in a game or something similar.

The only ones i can think of are:

Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced
Baten Kaitos (only becuz u are a spirit or whatever in the game)
MegaMan Battle Network (sorta becuz of the net world and the real world)
Eternal Darkness (...well its more like u play as a character that is playing through a book:confused
Viewtiful Joe (sort of cuz u play a character who plays in a movie world?)

Either way i think none of these have made the concept as compelling as Contact so im definitely(hah didn't use "defiantly" :thumbsup keeping an eye on it.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Like when I play Animal Crossing in my basement, and in the game, my character is in his basement playing video games?

It neglects to mention the most revolutionary thing offered by the PS3: Real-time weapon switching.

And the Warhawk demo. Nothing beats watching that guy wrench on that poor Dual Shake, as his aircraft bounces off mountains.

Sony really saved Nintendo from the entire Wii fiasco.

If it were "just the obvious" then that smug, little smiley wouldn't be there...

I think they'd have phrased it differently had they not intended to allude to that quote.
