We've lost TJ, Toddra, and Oblivion...Toddra tried real hard to be tj spyke and failed. Oblivion however has become a slightly less civil Tj Spyke (i didn't think that was possible) without the corporate white knighting (but more willing to act like a little kid throwing a temper tantrum because he can't get what he wants at the grocery store.)
Those are some big positions to fill, people, and I don't see any possible heirs.

Hated this game. The shooting gameplay just got duller and duller as they upped the enemy counts and introduced goofy bullet sponges. Story was atrocious, can't believe this got praised so much for being an interactive action movie. The Prince of Persia-lite stuff was sloppy and stiff, and the setpieces were so ludicrous that I couldn't even enjoy them as over-the-top spectacle. I thought Last of Us was substantially overrated, but it looks like a gem next to this game. At this rate, Naughty Dog might make an actually good game in five years.
Dead Space 3:
Good lord is this game too long. I can't believe I'm complaining about the campaign of an action game being too long, but here we are. The initial portion in the haunted armada was fairly ho-hum stuff, but it looks much better in retrospect compared to the ice planet. The problem with this game is not so much the co-op focus, though that ends up being an obvious problem, as it is that they tried to convert this franchise into a Borderlands-style loot game. All of the optional missions are just loot raids. Which stops being satisfying at all once you upgrade the useful parts of your Rig and make a mega plasma cutter about halfway through the game. Seriously, if you play this game, don't bother with the optional stuff, it just adds 3-4 hours to the game of completely generic gameplay for unnecessary components. Plus the mainline game will at least be a bit more challenging this way.
Overall this game felt so lazy and rote that it almost seemed like the team was pissed off at what they were being forced to do with the franchise. It's also glitchy as hell, and compensates for it's bad design by having ammo, health, and resource drops off of every single enemy, at least on default difficulty. Even if you're curious about this game, I would just read a plot description and leave it at that (spoiler: it's really stupid). Blegh.

TJ never needed any goading. If he believed 1 1=3 and you presented absolute proof that he was wrong, he would get mad no matter how sterile or informative you maybe. Your first day back, you make a snide, unprovoked attack on another member for no other reason than you disagreed with his opinion on two games. He was thoughtful enough of this forum to spend the time writing up a few paragraphs under the belief that the rest of the forum might have some interest in his opinion. He detailed things he didn't like about the games (instead of just a "this game sucked because it sucked.") and shared this with us.
Then, for virtually no reason, nine days later, you blasted him with a snide remark against him personally for no reason - other than you disagreed with his opinion, which you didn't even bother to expand upon that (like "You don't like games that X? I LOVE games that X!")

Sorry - I was talking about the same event, I just phrased it all poorly. The first line was a synopsis. The rest was what happened (from my POV). The "nine days later" was in reference to the fact that it was nine days after MagicCow posted his reviews, you made your reply.

Interesting. Admittedly, it might work better if you start from the first reply I make and then get to the current. If you read through the replies the other way, from current to first, I don't know how it would read out. I do seem to have picked up a new smite since then so someone else must agree with you that it wasn't funny. Still, at least I'm trying and experimenting with things. The real problem I have with this argument is that if we were trying to be clickbait we'd be way better at it than those reviews. The scores would be a lot lower, and the text would be much more negative, including blatant lies about things the games did. Really, if I'm wrong and that truly was their attempt at making clickbait, they really suck at it.

To answer pokepal's criticism in TalkBack, yes, mods do have the ability to edit posts there despite regular users not being able to, but we only have that because we're better than the rest of you.
Or you could just admit that,unlike the bumbling mods and admins,us regulars users are able to post correctly on our own and don't need to go back and edit posts compared to the staff who constantly make mistakes in their postings and have to correct them over and over. I mean, the Mario Kart 8 review posters have still yet to go back and edit their posts. They still keep showing a 7.5 score instead of the 9.5 it is supposed to be. Without the edit feature, then the regular users would crush the staff in this battle of wits as it would be a very unlevel playing field.

Suffice it to say that he took great offense to my casual disinterest in the new PS4 exclusive Bloodborne because the Dark Souls team was working on it, and he decided to use it as a springboard for some personal attacks against me and my history on the forums. Seriously, though, the repeated "GemCon" thing was the final draw. He had already been given a temp ban once for pushing buttons, has had three different Alt accounts banned, has had multiple warnings (and was currently setting on a 20% warning level from MegaByte (like, someone besides me actually did some moderating around here... you know it's bad when they get involved!!))...
I very clearly stated that I would ban him if he did it again and he did it. To me, that's just like saying "Please ban my account."
How long is it for? I put in the ban (in the part only moderators can see) that I would take it off in a few minutes... but man... unbanning someone is work and all. I'm not sure I care enough to put forth the effort.
I've told others that I want them here and that keeping them around is more work than just outright banning them - thus supporting the theory that I want them around and want to keep them a part of the conversation.

And the Browns, well, they don't have the toughest schedule the rest of the way either, because, as with the Steelers, they play the two worst divisions in the NFL because of the way the schedule worked out. They do have injuries piling up on defense, but the offense is finally getting back in shape. It could go a lot of ways, but hey, even if they lose out they've got the third best record since returning in '99, and a lot to be excited for going forward.

As for the Steelers, they are somehow tied with the Browns but facing the Bengals twice could get them the division lead. Plus, with a few other weak opponents in the final weeks, there is a good chance that the Steelers will end up division leaders and head off to the playoffs thereby denying the Browns. We can only hope.

Lucariofan99 is 17 today. I thought about posting this in the Lucariofan thread but I'll let it keep dropping. Still, it's a reminder of how he has very much disappeared. He hasn't been to this site in over a month. You bored him to death NWR. At this point, it seems that if Lucariofan99 had been banned instead of a Pokepal mentoring him, we'd have practically ended up with the same result we did. I've been able to finally do some more testing of my mod powers in the Mafia forums thanks to Pokepal148's inability to know where and what to post after dying and I've now been able to move my first post from one thread into another. That was a fun game. I kind of want to run a "dueling mafia" game where the godfather's are immune to the hits and know who each other are. Sort of a true battle of whits between them to sway the townies and try to defeat the other side. Make it more of a mental chess game.

Speaking of Catherine, you have to wonder what might have happened if she stayed. If she was still there for season 5, they probably could have gotten away with not replacing Bill, still having her as the on-air talker person, which could have sidestepped some of the issues they had. Ironically she left because she (somewhat rightfully) thought her character was underused, when if she'd been there a bit longer she'd have been hugely important.

But the one I most considered going with was Bloodshed in a Forum Thread. In the end, I pulled the trigger on the title I used because it had some heat to better reflect hell and anger and a flame war in a forum is often started by two hotheads.

I just thought of an amazing feature for forums. A "mute" feature. You mute the poster, but they don't know they're muted. On their end, everything looks normal. To everyone else, no one actually sees anything they post. If they reply to a post, it doesn't appear bumped. If they start a thread, no one sees it.

Maybe Nintendo releases a USB sensor bar, or just ditches IR-technology altogether because it's awful. If Skyward Sword did anything right, it showed that the gyroscope in MotionPlus did a better job simulating pointer controls than the regular Wii Remote did with actual pointer controls. Nintendo likes 1:1 emulation, but I hope it reconsiders since the gyroscope worked so much better.For me, the IR pointer in the Wiimote is the best thing about it, it's nearly perfect and nothing else has come close to being as good.

I thought that post M+ titles with pointer controls did implement both IR and gyro in their games? Thought for sure that was a feature point in later shooters on the system. It was supposed to help with when you pointed off screen so that your aim didn't wig out on you.I think the only game that does this is Red Steel 2. I believe all it does is have the gyro kick in if the sensor bar loses sight of the IR, and just to keep track of where it is when it's lost the IR. Not too sure, would have to research it more.

If people are interested in gender options, it's great that they get it, but I'm personally more interested in a Link character that is totally androgynous. I kind of thought it was heading in that direction. In most games the character is a child who's gender is not only unimportant, but difficult to distinguish, and in the games where the character is older, he's somewhat effeminate. I was kind of hoping in this game they'd take that a step further and just never imply a gender one way or the other. Still, a gender option is a step in the right direction for helping more gamers feel included, and not just female ones.

I will come closer to believing Nintendo has it sights set on taking the Console Power crown once again because that is slightly more believable now with Kimishima as president. I'm still clinging to that hope. :)
Kimishima hasn't even been president for a year yet. Any deals that went down with AMD or Nvidia would have all been taken care of before Iwata died. If Iwata decided that Nintendo was going with Nvidia, then that's what's powering the NX. Even if Kimishima wanted to release a more powerful system, it was already too late to change said course by the time he was president without breaking multi-million dollar contracts and delaying the systems launch by at least another year, something Nintendo can't afford to do.

I think Nintendo has 2 issues.
1) Repeatedly trying to re-invent the wheel just so that they can call it their own.
I think the Wii was the first time they tried this, and it was so successful, that it only made sense to try and upend the table again with the WiiU. It probably would have been better (imo) to make a Wii2 instead, with better or the same motion controls (the same only so the controllers would be compatible), but with better graphics. Instead, they tried something new, which failed, and now the Switch is what the WiiU should have been. Instead of having a screen on the controller, the system has a screen for when you want to take it outside. This makes it more of a traditional machine which is good for gamers and designers.
That's not re-inventing that we're complaining about, though. The Wii motion controls were major selling point for all of us. [That] was exciting. Let's talk about what's not exciting:
1. Gamecube: Opting for proprietary mini-discs while the rest of the market uses standard DVDs. Consequently, Gamecube discs have far less storage and are more expensive for third parties. Why not just go with the standard everyone else is happy with?
2. Gamecube: Going with 59 Mb memory cards as the standard (and ONLY available Nintendo branded) memory card while [everyone else] has game save storage space into the megabytes. Why not just go with what has been proven to work with that generation for the past year?
3. Wii: Going with "friend codes" that are unique to each and every game that supports online play. Want to play with your friends? Prepare to enter a GUID using a pointer for every friend code EVERY TIME you get a new game. This is majorly off-putting to everyone who has played online on PC, Xbox, or Playstation. NO ONE has EVER chosen to do online play like this before. NO ONE. Nintendo came up with this all on their own. Why not just go with the standard that has already been in place for more than a decade???
4. Wii: Games are FINALLY on DVDs. No DVD movie playback. Why not include a hugely popular feature all other competitors offer??? I mean, F--K, I know people who don't even f--king game who bought 3 or more Wii's just to hook them to TVs and run Netflix. Seriously. Japan of all nations dictates you to make a smaller console, AND YOU GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO DENY US DVD PLAYBACK!!!!11!1
5. Wii: Everyone else is offering 100+ GB storage solutions. Nintendo believes 8 GB is enough. Doh.
6. Wii U: Everyone else is offering 100+ GB storage solutions. Nintendo believes 32 GB is enough. Doh.

When Nintendo does something, they make sure and do it themselves and make sure to only do what their narrow vision requires. One the minimum is satisfied, they trim anything that might be of use to anyone outside Nintendo and make sure they aren't paying an extra penny anywhere along the way while still asking a premium price for the damn thing. I give you: Nintendo re-inventing the wheel.

The hardest part was the set-up. I had to download people's avatars and figure out a list of who to switch and then collect and save the pertinent information so that it didn't get lost in the switches. Then my big struggle came with PhotoBucket. It used to be a great site to load images and get links for them but that site is just a struggle to get loaded and navigate on with the ads they have on it now which want to crash the site. I need to look into some adblock software. That might help make the site usable again.
Once I had that info in place and collected the link information to everyone's avatars, then it was just loading up two screens with people's info and swapping them back and forth and running through the list. By my estimate, it took about 45 minutes to an hour doing all that swapping.

All of this has still cost me less than buying a Switch. Normally, I wouldn't have bought so much at one time but the Gamestop equivalent of Canada has had a special sale going on since March 3 that is running until April 2 which is that if you buy 2 used games then you get the 3rd one free. Used games are cheaper than brand new copies plus if you have a high enough membership card, you can get a bit more of the price. If I take the price of 2 games and divide it over the three, it makes for a price point I would gladly take if they were sold at that cost individually. The highest price labelled for the games (and majority labelled price for the games) I bought is $35.99. 2 games at that price with tax is just over $80 but when I take that total and divide it over 3 games, that comes to about $26.87 with tax per game which is about 50% off the normal price as most of these games are retailing at $49.99 CAD and that's before tax. The only thing is that I have to buy a bunch of games at once to take advantage of the price compared to if it was just a 50% off sale for one or two titles. However, having not really purchased a lot of games the past couple years because of the rising price of games, (3DS games used to sell around the $35.00 mark with some games $5.00 above or below that depending on the title) I'd held off on buying stuff until a found a price point I was happy with. Being able to now reach this price point, I've begun taking advantage of it. It's probably helped that with the launch of the Switch, some people have traded in newer games or at least good copies of them so that I've been able to pick up some of the newer released titles at a good price.
Ironically, the one 3DS game I probably most want has been one I've yet to see used anywhere despite checking 7 EBGames stores in my local and surrounding area and that is Kirby: Planet Robobot. I'm also ticked I missed Best Buy's discount of Paper Jam for $14.97 which is a killer good price. Likewise, there have been no copies of Paper Jam for me to pick up in this deal yet either.
Anyways, thought I'd bring this up in case others have the means to take advantage of it as I think it is worth it. The only problem can be when you can find 2 games you want but can't really find a 3rd. I wasn't really interested in Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins and only picked it up because the store I was in couldn't find the copy of Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Olympics despite having the case on the shelf. It was the only thing priced right with the other games I was buying and that I thought might have been ok reviewed (it did become a Nintendo select title) to purchase aside from getting something I already owned and trying to sell off the extra copy later. At this point, my last dream find would be a store that has Planet Robobot, Paper Jam and Story of Seasons although I'd be willing to consider Mario Party: Star Rush, some other Harvest Moon titles, Hatsune Miku Project, or even remakes like Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World.
At this point, for the Wii U, I think the only titles I'm still looking to buy are:
Ducktales Remastered
Pokken Tournament
Super Mario Maker (depends on price because I still wonder how long online services will last and then one can no longer play other people's creations)
The following are games I'd be open to buying but not worried if it doesn't happen since I clearly have more than enough to play from these recent purchases:
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics 2014 and/or 2016 (Haven't played any of the M&SatO games but Phil and I think Mop it up seem to be fairly positive about them so I'd be willing to give them a try)
Twilight Princess HD (my initial thought was pass on this title since I have the GC version and I just didn't see myself ever revisiting this game but BotW has me re-energized in Zelda that I'm now curious to try this again with a game in the height of the old style of dungeon and Zelda design but I still might pass since I've got the GC version to replay if I need to)
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (ShyGuy seemed impressed by it back in the day if I recall. Can't say it interests me too much but it look nice and it's a different type of game than I normally play)
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (why not? I hear it's only medicore and not outright terrible like other Sonic games. As well, I hear and think it doesn't take long to beat so I may not have to make it sit long in my backlog. Sometimes it's nice to have a simple game to quickly complete.)
Sonic All-Star Racing (I hear it's actually good and was the Kart racing game of choice before MK8 took over that title as expected.)
Lego Batman 3 (I bought the 2nd one of Wii U because it was under $10 despite not owning the first. Haven't played it to know what the quality is like but it's almost at the same price point being around $13.00)
Epic Mickey 2 (I know this didn't get good reviews when it came out at the start of the Wii U's life span and the Epic Mickey franchise since died after 2 middling games but part of me is still intrigued by the property to pick it up anyways at a low cost despite not playing the first)
Splatoon (That's right. Lumped with all these other games is Splatoon. I really don't play Shooter/combat type games that this is styled off of nor am I much of an online gamer. With those 2 factors along with the fact that the single player mode is relatively short means I'm unsure I'd really like this title. And with Splatoon 2 soon releasing on Switch, it could be the more Splatoon players carry on playing it there making the Wii U version and online crowd more obsolete. Probably not going to happen at this point)
If anyone wants to chime in on whether something is worth buying or skipping on these Wii U titles, I'm open to hearing about it.

Actually, the roles have kind of existed before under a different name. The Jester was used in Mafia 12 and was called the Politician, I believe. The game ended on the first day because that person was voted out so they automatically won. We haven't really used that role since then because just having a Mafia game last day isn't that fun and it amazingly almost happened again in this game.
There have been other roles like that Joker that allow a player to steal someone else's role though I'm not sure if we've ever had it specifically worded where the player could only choose from among the eliminated players.

I went to post more thoughts on Samus Returns and read this post again. I called his suggestion asinine, but I wrote two paragraphs to explain. His response still seemed a little extreme. I’ve gushed about the game numerous times in that thread. Samus Returns is good; the level design could be better. Was I being unfair?I cringe every time I see this reasoning. I accept that few games are as expertly designed as Super Metroid. Samus Returns is decidedly worse than its canonical sequel in almost every way, and that’s okay. It’s still good. However, Nintendo and MercurySteam don’t get a pass for designing extremely linear levels and adding warp points in the latest entry of a series known for exploration. Navigating a foreign space and slowly building up an arsenal so everything doesn’t kill you was the entire point. If this is how they wanted to design the game, fine. A Metroid purist won’t get exactly what they want which is also fine.
Something can be different and good at the same time. However, it’s the developers’ responsibility to meet the player’s expectations, not the player’s responsibility to change or lower their expectations because the developers made a worse thing so I won’t sanction the idea that one should alter the way they play a game because developers walked back on certain things that made a series what it is.

You know what shocks me the most about this Mafia game? Everyone just seems to use the Default Forum theme! I thought more people were using the Core theme but it seems like I'm the only one. Every account I check into is on the Default theme. The forum itself says there are around 57 people using the Core theme. I'm one of those few but who are the others? Spambots?

You know what shocks me the most about this Mafia game? Everyone just seems to use the Default Forum theme! I thought more people were using the Core theme but it seems like I'm the only one.I use Core, but I'm too lazy to change it on my Mafia account. If the boss likes the person/people you’re complaining about or it’s more trouble to address the issue, you’re SOL. The problem with complaining to HR is that they’re not here to back you, they’re here to back the company. Unless it’s a cut and dry situation (and even if it is in some circumstances and depending on the company), complaining makes you look like a problem employee. If it’s better for the company to side against or cut ties with you than the person you complained about, you’re SOL too.

If you felt I was being smug, it isn’t my place to tell you that you’re wrong. What I will tell you and everyone else is that isn’t my intention and I don’t mean anything personally. You brought up Ian, and to be honest, I actually like Ian. I generally like everyone on NWR, admittedly some more than others. My issue with Ian (before he mellowed out in the past year or so) wasn’t that he disliked say, motion controls. It was that he would disrupt so many discussions, and often with statements that made no sense. “Nintendo tricked people into buying the Wii.” Like, how the **** is that even possible, sir? We could be trying to have a nice conversation about pancakes and then it would always devolve into Nintendo being ****.
I can tell you that I don’t like condescension or flat-out false statements, things that objectively can’t be true. For example, I vaguely recall getting into it with someone who complained that it was Nintendo’s fault because they bought a DS right before Nintendo announced DSi. In those instances, I feel the urge to say something. More often than not, I should just walk away because the thread is done at that point. In the last few years, I have. The point of a previous post in this thread is maybe I should more often.
Look, thread derailment happens often here, but it will usually at least be kind of relevant/related to the original topic and often everyone is having a fun time until someone drops a hate bomb. I still post here because I want to talk about Nintendo things, and it’s small enough that we all internet know each other. I like lurking ResetEra for example, but I’d never join that community because I feel like there are so many people, I wouldn’t be able to get to know anyone.

We've all had our weird times on the forum. I was a bit a of a wreck for a time myself, for reasons I never quite disclosed, and I think my behavior on the forums suffered as a result. But, as long as you're willing to work at improving your behavior and not piss off everyone all the time (all the time, of course, you can piss people off on occasion), the community should have no reason to reject or judge you for that. That's the way I see it, anyway, and I'm thankful that I have had this place to visit and interact with, even if the boards are slow at times. In a way, that makes them far more manageable and personable, much like Adrock mentioned in regards to Resetera
