Link's Awakening - Remake, Re-release or Direct Sequel campaign?
« on: September 03, 2007, 03:14:53 PM »
Well, after recently restarting this game again, I am, once again, reaffirmed in my belief that Link's Awakening for the original Game Boy (or the DX remake for the Game Boy Color) is the absolute best game ever created of all time on any platform ever.

I remember, back in the olden days of the original Zelda Headquarters, there were screen shots of what was supposed to be a direct sequel to this game.

I would like to let Nintendo know that everyone thinks this game is the best game ever and it deserves a direct sequel.  Or an awesome remake.  Or, at least, some kind of re-release that doesn't require me to carry around my GBA SP (or an older system) in order to play it.  Hey, this is the only Zelda game not to have been re-released in the past nine (almost 10) years!

So... while I'm sure it probably wouldn't work, would anyone like to get on board with promoting a letter writing campaign?  I'm not talking about e-mailing them - I'm talking about actual ink and paper, snail mail letters.  Perhaps the more artsy of us could include some kind of fan artwork expressing our love for this game or such.

I know it's asking a lot (I mean, geesh, what is a stamp these days? $7?), but, perhaps it could be worth it.

All of the above...

My dream is a Wind Waker-esque 3D remake or a remake built on the Four Swords Adventure engine...Both would make me...make me...You really don't want to know... =)

Anyone who thinks Link's Awakening is the best game ever created on any platform is cracked out of their mind

I wouldn't want a remake, though I would like to see GB games on VC. Nintendo always screws up remakes . . .

Link's Awakening is not only the best game ever created, it's the best of any form of entertainment that this planet has even known...It's as if God was carrying a large glass of perfection and tripped, sending it spilling and landing right into Nintendo headquarters just as they started developing it...

Zero Mission was so drastically different from the first Metroid that I qualify it as an original title =)

Lol! Wait wait . . .

That doesn't make any sense =P

And Stevey is correct ALttP > Links Awakening well correct except for the spoiler tag, I think ALttP is vastly superior to LA, but that's just me.

I think story-wise there cannot be a sequel to LA, it wouldn't make sense. Gameplay wise they'd probably just use current Zelda formulas. So in what respect would a "sequel" to LA be an actual sequel?

For further reference, the best GB game is Donkey Kong

Link's Awakening is the only 2D Zelda I got into. You can't remake it, there's no way to make it any better than it already is and there is an extremely high likelihood they would ruin it. I could definitely go for a rerelease on the VC. I would really like to play it again, and hopefully resist urges and be able to finish the game with my name being what I started with and not Thief.

I've never played Link's Awakening as I can't find the color DX version and gave up looking.

One of the things that irked me about the DX re-release was that you can't complete 100% without being called "Thief".  That's so not right.

Anywhoo, if we're talking re-release, I just want a version that I can play on my DS (or heck, even my Game Boy micro).  If it's through the Wii download service, I cannot currently do that.  They'll have to come up with some way to transfer games to my DS.

If we're talking re-make, I'm simply thinking, as Bill suggested, the same game but with Four Swords Adventure-esque graphics.  Perhaps, if they wanted to really go at it, they could do something like OoT's Master Quest and remix the levels.

As for direct sequel... It'd be tricky, but I imagine Link (one of the Links, perhaps not the same one) going on a quest to find the Wind Fish "in real life".  For what purpose?  I guess you'll have to play the sequel to find out.

Link's Awakening is my favourite game.  It's the only game I've ever beaten more than once that isn't some half-hour Ninja Turtles game.

But it already had a sequel.  It was called Ocarina of Time and it kicked ass.  And if you want more games that play like Link's Awakening well Nintendo made two of them.  The Oracle games are pretty much "more Link's Awakening".  Link's Awakening itself was even already remade in 1998 with the DX version that thankfully was made before Nintendo got all voice-sample happy with their re-releases.

The only thing I want is for Link's Awakening to be available for people to buy and ideally I would like that to be through the VC.  The DS can't play GB/GBC games so it would be ideal to have those titles on the VC.  Not just Link's Awakening but Metroid II and Pokemon and Donkey Kong and Warioland 2 and all the great Gameboy titles that are no longer in stores.

I wouldn't really call OoT a sequel to Link's Awakening.  At least, not any more than I'd call Hotel Mario a sequel to Super Mario Brothers...

The Oracle Games were pretty good... but I dunno - they were really not Link's Awakening.  I guess nothing ever will be though, eh?
