Nobody knows the actual sales for Darksiders II and they are taking into account worldwide sales, not just US sales.  It could still end up being profitable.

Doubt it, the co founder of Vigil and the creator of Darksiders left Vigil. The series is basically dead now.

Did he get hired on by Retro Studios too?

Interesting.  The 3DS is going to outsell the lifetime sales of the PS3 this year and the 3DS LL is likely going to outsell the lifetime sales of the Vita this year as well.  Vita really needs help.

Having their second holiday be headlined with something beyond an RPG would be a good start.

Wow PSP still going reasonably strong. I know how Sony are saying its a marathon not a sprint but I just don't see how the Vita can catch up at this point.

Looking at Vita's list of upcoming games and existing games it seems hardly anyone is willing to develop an original title. A lot of them are just ports of existing titles and there aren't many games that are suitable for portable play (like playing in short bursts of 5 minutes)

Quote
October represented a month of “steep declines” for videogame sales at retail, owing to lower sales of games as compared to last year, when hits like Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City were released, the NPD Group reported this afternoon. Hardware sales dropped 37% while total retail spend dropped from $1 billion to $755.5 million.

There were a few exceptions to the decline trend. Skylanders: Giants sold over 160% more units than last year’s Skylanders title did in its debut month and NBA 2K12 outsold last year’s game by 60%. Meanwhile, FIFA Soccer 13 saw an increase of 13% as compared to its predecessor. However, these games alone weren’t enough to offset the decline of the retail console software market.

Sales of portable software, however, were up 37% as compared to last year, owing to the release of Pokémon Black/White 2.

Monster Hunter bundle was released. Probably also why Monster Hunter reappeared on the chart. Plus people are probably buying a 3DS since Animal Crossing launched yesterday. The bump is still interesting considering people are expecting 3DS sales to almost double this week due to Animal Crossing.

So in Japan, 3DS & has a real shot at passing PS3 before the year is over & to make things even worse, 3DS LL has a real shot at outselling the PSV before year end too.

Poor Sony.

PS3 @ 30k avg for the next 9 weeks = +270k for a total of 8.85million units
PSV @ 7.5k avg for next 9 weeks = +67.5k for a total of about 1.09million units
(the above adds in a very small Xmas bump of ~50% increase in sales average over current sales)

3DS only needs 950k which = 105k avg over the next 9 weeks to pass that theoretical number
3DS LL only needs about 200k which = 22.2k a week for the next 9 weeks which should be really easy since it's already did 63k last week and 38k the week before that.

Looking at Vita's list of upcoming games and existing games it seems hardly anyone is willing to develop an original title. A lot of them are just ports of existing titles and there aren't many games that are suitable for portable play (like playing in short bursts of 5 minutes)

As a Vita owner, I think this is a false perception but given Sony's abysmal Vita marketing I can't say I blame you for having it. Vita just had what I consider to be its best release month since launch, especially on the download side.  In the next episode of NFR, I'll be talking about 3 of those October releases: Dokuro, Orgarhythm, and Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation (which is a Vita-exclusive original title). All 3 are worthwhile in their own ways and very portable play-friendly, but Sony doesn't seem interested in telling anyone that.

Vita's problem software-wise is that many of its exclusives play to very specific niches, and it doesn't really have that general audience break-out title like Nintendo has with Mario. That said, the games it has are quite good and I don't regret my Vita purchase. It's unfortunate that the handheld is saddled with Sony's marketing department.

I don't regret my Vita purchase, but mainly only because I never owned a PSP, so that stuff's all new to me too. Still, I have 8 or 10 Vita games that I like, so I'm fine with the system. I really hope it continues to see support.

Vita mean's life right?  Sony better invest in some phoenix down because it looks like Vita's heading to the boneyard.

Using phoenix down on the undead kills them.

Interesting.  The 3DS is going to outsell the lifetime sales of the PS3 this year and the 3DS LL is likely going to outsell the lifetime sales of the Vita this year as well.  Vita really needs help.
So in Japan, 3DS & has a real shot at passing PS3 before the year is over & to make things even worse, 3DS LL has a real shot at outselling the PSV before year end too.

Poor Sony.
Hmmm, I've read this somewhere before...

I'm actually planning to get a Vita at some point, mainly because I never had a PSP either.  I want to play those games on that system I always wanted to play but couldn't because I never got a PSP.  I think for the Vita, I'm either waiting for a price drop or a bundle I can't refuse.   I'm hoping that FFX HD remake gets a bundle.  I think I'd get the system for that.

I don't see how they have any other option than to lower their price early next year. I'm kind of shocked they didn't do it for the holiday; even if they'd have lost money, it would have gotten the hardware into people's hands, getting them to buy games and convince publishers the platform isn't already dead.

For me to put the Vita truly on my Radar I need to be able to walk out of a store with:
Vita
Good Size Memory Card
Game I want

For less than $200 dollars.  Next year. (I've spent a lot this year.)
Need a Personal NonCitizen-Magical-Elf-Boy-Child-Game-Abused-King-Kratos-Play-Thing Crimm Unmaker-of-Worlds-Hunter-Of-Boxes
so, I don't have to edit as Much.

I don't see that happening any time soon. Maybe 2 of the 3, but even that's a stretch.

It is but that's about where I pegged my Cost to Value for the Vita being.  Unless it suddenly comes out with a stellar lineup for 4 year olds.
