Kashogi's big book of adventure!
« on: March 30, 2009, 05:37:53 PM »
THIS IS NOT AS CONCEITED AS YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So like many of you I cannot wait for May to come. Some of you will be getting out of class, graduating, or simply just love summer. I am the third. I've been saving up money all year for this summer. For what? Well I'll tell you in a lil bit, but right now I have a question.

Has anyone been to Hawaii (Honolulu specifically)? If you have, is it possible to travel from island to island by using a speed boat?

I'm going there in May and I heard from a friend down there that they shut down the ferry system last month. Just my luck. I'm not going to let something like that stop me though! I know the ferry system went from Honolulu to Maui. If they can do it, I bet I could do it by speed boat.

So has anyone had the kusspah to do this before? I'm sure it's dangerous, but it would be crazy awesome!

Never watched it, but if they did that then HELL YES!

I'm so psyched to go to Honolulu, but it's the other islands that have things like the green and black sand beaches; things you can't see anywhere else in the world. I have to figure a way to go. I have to go.

I was thinking about buying a plane ticket, but that's not going to be cheap.

I've been to Hawaii. Beautiful place.
I stayed in Waikiki on Oahu & I would love to go back
But I didn't travel to any of the other islands so I have no idea about inter island travel

Just consulting a map, it looks like the Kaiwi Channel alone is about 30 miles across at the narrowest point.  That's between Oahu and Molokai.  Leaving from Honolulu, it's over 40 miles.  Honolulu to Maui is at least 90 miles.  You'd lose sight of the shore and probably get lost forever, so I'd recommend hiring someone who can navigate to shuttle you around.

Interesting. Looks like there were two black sand beaches but one of them was recently covered with fresh lava. The other is located on Oahu so I can get there by a car which is great. The green sand beach is located on Lanai however, so I'd have to make the trip across two channels.

Hmmmm....

Like you said it's about 40 miles to Molokai and about 10 miles to Lanai from there. I wouldn't have any trouble navigating down to Lanai, but from Honolulu to Molokai I would need something more than a map and compass.

Still 40 miles by boat doesn't sound too dangerous. With the right precautions I think I wouldn't even need a guide, though getting lost at sea forever because of pride doesn't sound fun at all.

Are you implying that Maui knows the way to the Great Bay Temple?

Damn...it really does, doesn't it? Crazy.

Anyway, is it safe to assume that no one here has done it before? Has anyone traveled more than 40 miles on a boat before?

Several times, but I've never been the one in charge of piloting or navigation.

I would pay to see Stogi on an island of 6 trapped white people from the 60s. <!-- Insert some joke about Mary Ann here, or even 'Little Buddy' -->

Oh wait, Stogi would fit right in. He'd be the life of their party. LOL (No references to anything here... just move along)

Just promise that if you have have a guy on your island that is smart enough to make a radio out of a coconut, that you make sure he uses those smarts to fix a hole in your boat.

So I talked to the friend whom I'm visiting and she is all about it!

Unfortunately for her, her internship didn't give her anytime to explore the islands and even Oahu a great deal. So after talking for several hours, we came to the conclusion that she needs to find a boat and we need to do this thing! If for the only reason to simply having a great story to tell our grandkids. She also informed me that I wouldn't have to pay for my *EXPLICATIVE* because she gets *EXPLICATIVE* for free from some lesbians that she's been hanging out with. This is great news because it saves me at least a bill.

I also called up another one of my friends whose moved down there for good. He can't make it though, but he told me he's been to Lanai and the green sand beach should be seen by anyone with eyes.

I'm hyped. As far as planning goes for this trip, I think I've done enough. Anymore and it would be un-Stogi-like. Besides, these aren't my life goals; its a trip to paradise and adventuring is all about the unknown!

I'll update this thread at some point so keep an eye out!
