Acclaim and Midway fighting over figures?  Why can't they just work together in the arcades like the good ol' days?

Acclaim Sports Balks at Midway's Claim to Having the #1 Baseball Video Game of 2002

According to The NPD Group, Acclaim's 'All-Star Baseball' Owned The Championship Spot as the #1 Selling Baseball Video Game Brand of 2002

GLEN COVE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2003-- Digging in its cleats against the competition, Acclaim Sports a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., today responded to an announcement made by Midway Sports regarding the success of their baseball video game. According to The NPD Group, Acclaim's All-Star Baseball franchise was in fact the #1 selling baseball video game brand of 2002, having sold more than 563,000 units combined across all of the next-generation gaming systems. In addition, Acclaim's 2002 aggregate baseball video game sales were nearly 30 percent higher than Midway's, 42 percent higher than Electronic Arts' and 68 percent higher than 3DO's.

"Claiming to having the #1 title on only one platform is such a bush-league, rookie move, as any true baseball fan knows, there are no shortcuts to calling yourself a champion," said David Knies, Director of Acclaim Sports. "There are nine innings in baseball and three next-generation systems, and unless you win the whole thing, you haven't really won anything. And just like in baseball, the stats don't lie, which is why consumers have made All-Star Baseball the #1 baseball franchise in the marketplace for the past two years, and we're ready to defend our championship title with All-Star Baseball 2004."
